How the fuck do I prevent YouTube videos from loading in 720p all the time??!

Most of the time I don't care about HD quality, it's often commentary that I'm only listening to while working in another video so I set it low. 360 or even 240. I see no reason to waste bandwidth in these cases.

Yet most of the time when I open videos to fullscreen, and almost every goddamn time I open an embedded YouTube vid, it starts loading in 720 again automatically. How do I stop this??

I just got a new router. Netgear R7000. It's working well, except for when I try to log into my bank account. When I do, the Internet connection stops working completely, no devices can access the Web. What the fuck is going on?
