What was the worst thinkpad model and why was it pic related?

Wait, you could order them with higher res displays?

Wasn't the T42 the one where you could break the GPU if you picked it up by the corner? I'd say that's worse. Nvidia T61s too, what with their tendency to commit suicide.

Then there's shit like the G40, which is pretty much a joke computer. Desktop Pentium 4 stuffed into a two-inch thick, eight pound monster of a laptop. The G41 even had the balls to pair its Prescott CPU with an Nvidia dGPU. Guaranteed housefires.

Why is my router blocking my DNS trace requests?
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Compared two requests to the root servers, and the only difference was the recursive bit.

Recursive bit off, it fails.
Recursive bit on, it passes.

Does my router hate iterative queries?
>>
have you tried using a different router

nope, but is this a very unusual problem?

Why does Apple like dongles so much?
33 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
Dosh, plain and simple

Why use industry-standard connectors when you can sell a converter dongle for a fat wad of cash on top of the main purchase?
>>
>>57287613
because they figured enough people didn't want an ethernet port, VGA port, etc... in their laptop 100% of the time that they could just make a dongle for it.

if you don't like apple's dongles, you can buy any old generic. USB adapters are cheap, and type C adapters will actually show up on the market soon now that a major laptop manufacturer has gone deep on it.
>>
Simple reason really: Different people have very different needs, so if you want to cater to all of them in one device with built-in ports, you're going to end up creating a complete mess. This means it makes much more sense to only include the basics and then let people pick out dongles for whatever they need and they're generally not going to need more than one or two.

Specially the tablets would be a mess if they had HDMI, VGA, USB, SD card readers and posts/sockets for all the other things people want to use with them.

>hipsterfag freelancers will fall for this

will Microsoft steal away some hipstertards from Apple?
13 posts and 1 images submitted.

nah, this is nothing more than another pitiful attempt at emulating apple
>>
there's nothing more satisfying than watching autistic people have meltdowns over announcements of products that weren't designed for them in the first place.

in a distant future, /g/ will have threads where faggots gnash their teeth over industrial construction equipment not catering to NEETs.
>>
>fall for it

What, it's actually Microsoft being better than Apple at something by producing a good product. There isn't anything to "fall" for .

For a developer with occasional OpenCL workloads, is this the best MBP replacement or what?

+ Not limited to low TDP processors, even Xeon E3 is an option
+ Discrete graphics
+ Not a brick
+ Good audio
+ Probably good build quality (passed milspec)
+ 4k Dreamcolor matte display
+ Large glass trackpad

- Overpriced but so is MacBook Pro

No? Anything better?

Battery lasts 2 minutes and a half, get an xps15.
I've been waiting a year to replace my old laptop, and have weighted all possible 15 inches out there.
It's either the xps or the mac: with the former you're kinda stuck with windows because dual booting is a nightmare, with the latter you have choose between old specs or usb-c only.

I have come to the conclusion that the market does not want us to have the perfect laptop just yet...

what's a good mic for talking to fellow 9gag memeteamers on discord? I'm a 'newfrog'

Anyone have experience with Nord VPN? My roommate has it but can't get torrent traffic to go through it via utorrent (other services are going through it, eg. web traffic). I haven't looked at it yet but want to have a good idea of where to start so I'm not wasting time. All help is appreciated.

I've recently been hired as an IT guy at a company that programs for whoever will hire them. It was an easy job to get, just look nice and show up. However, I have literally no education on how to be an IT person or how to program, I even had to look up what IT was before the company. Any tips on how to sound like I know what I'm doing so I don't get sacked?
