Will AMD's new Ryzen CPUs have better performance than the i7 7700k? Not talking about price, just performance. I'm building a new PC next week

What?
>>58615217
all demos show it being within 5% IPC depending on the load. how well Zen overclocks vs. Kaby Lake will be the deciding factor
What you guys think about NixOS?

The installer was nice. Right combination of control and not making me do stupid pointless shit.
It's not GuixSD
If companies actively said tomorrow that they were going to dump microshit we would be finished with their crap company within a year.
>All le celebs / artists and other fags use apple devices
>Schools are buying chromebooks for classrooms en masse
>Did ANYBODY buy the microsoft phone?
>The registry and the GPO abortion that microsoft has shit out for years
>Quality of the web browser in general (I'll concede that edge is better)
>Quality of OS security
So why aren't we pushing to make Microsoft and its products obsolete again? Google has already prohibited Windows devices
>>58615151
>we
I love Microsoft and I bought a Surface Pro 3 and 4 pbecause they are better devices than the shit Apple is releasing and if you think a Chromebook is a good idea then you should KILL YOURSELF.
>>58615188
But for education they ARE a great idea.
Cheap, fast and centrally managed with minimal technical skill required. Foe education you also get unlimited cloud storage.
Bla bla bla google "privacy" - yes I know
>>58615213
I agree, MacBooks are great for teaching. But do we want the next generation of adults to be technologically illiterate? Correct me if I'm wrong but most people who use Apple devices don't know how to use anything else other than a apple device. Maybe make Linux the standard instead for example.

Can somebody give the rundown on these gals?
Can we have a thread for the raspberry pi, or any other single board computer /g/ is interested in (odroid, banana pi etc)?
What do you use your pi for? Do you intend to get one if you don't have one already? What do you expect to get out of the pi?
Some relevant links:
https://www.raspberrypi.org
The homepage of the pi
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01C6Q2GSY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1485160179&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=canakit+raspberry+pi+3
Decent starter kit to get you going with the pi
https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/noobs/
And NOOBS, which is a os installer for beginners and a great way to get started with your pi
>>58615013
well i've been thinking of makin my pi into an android tablet. or is it too of a farfetched idea since i dont know of any "full" verision android for the PI except the nougat 7 that you can find hundreds of videos about.
>>58615013
I have a Pi 1 model B as audio reciever connected to a simple DAC and amp in my living room. My NAS runs mopidy that streams to the Pi using pulseaudio.
I also have a Pi 3 as mediacenter.
>>58615013
I have a Rpi3 as a pihole, connected to my vpn. Also has PiVPN, but I rarely use it.
I would like to setup sickrage, couchpotato and transmission to download to my NAS, but I've been told that the cpu overhead of downloading directly to a network drive is too much for the rpi3. Does anyone have any experience with that?
I'll probably buy a second one when the official plex kodi addon is out of beta, so I can setup OSMC and retropi.
>sports are for the stup-
Sports are boring and they're boring to talk about, it's like talking about the weather that's the only reason people of average intelligence may follow them. Only the truly stupid actually care about them

The insistence in calling it GNU/Linux is retarded because GNU is not the only thing it uses in addition to Linux. It might as well be called GNU/Linux/Chrome/Firefox/Vim then retards. In fact, Torvalds correctly doesn't give a shit either because he didn't create an OS either, not after the first couple of years at least anyway, he created a Kernel.
Conclusion, yes, you could call it GNU/Linux, but you could also call it Linux, or GNU, or Debian plain which is in fact what most distributions are doing occasionally or what their user do occasionally unconsciously.
The insistence of calling it GNU/Linux, I interject here, shows a behavior of a delusional egomaniac.
The biggest reason is that not all BASE utils of the OS are even from GNU, various are nowadays independently created, albeit open source, but not from GNU and certainly not from Stallman.
>GNU/Linux/systemd/pacman/X11/GNOME/Firefox/OpenSSH/Freeciv/mpv would be unwieldy
>so let's just call the whole thing mpv
>>58614874
Well, GNU/Linux is not an OS, but rather a type of OS. I run Debian, and that's what I tell people when they ask. There's really not a need for such an autistic thread.

>>58614799
Fuck off Fash. Open source software projects are seizing the means of production for the digital age and you have no place slandering them as a butthurt neckbeard jerking off to Ayn Rand in his mom's basement. I hope you get hung on a tree in the inevitable proletarian revolution.

Be better off for who and what? I mean you could talk about it from an environmental standpoint I suppose.

Where's this?
Is partial seeding/leeching allowed on PassTheHeadphones? I can't find it in the rules.
help me decide /g/
I can't decide whether to buy an external HDD or internal HDD with an enclosure. (1TB)
It seems like if you even go as far as sneezing on an external drive it dies, so I've read.
Meanwhile the enclosure is an extra $20 (for a decent one).
What do i do?
>>58614655
These days a simple external HD is cheaper.
You can get a nice 2TB for like $70 and it will work off a single USB port, and have a much nicer case.
>>58614703
>2TB for like $70
Where???
>>58614655
>internal HDD with an enclosure
Won't this limit you to 2.5" HDD?
They're really starting to piss me off...

>20.01 - nothing and the weekend's ahead
>slightly annoyed, but ok
>23.01- check package status, says new delivery date confirmed (20.01)
>what in the time traveling jesus fuck
And that's not the first time they fucked up...
I have never had a successful delivery from them, I am never home and see the van drive passed my house without stopping, much rage!
>>58614637
Literally who?
I had to deal with them 3 times, one of the best 3 deliveries in my life. They were on time and the tracking was professional.
I think they are the best beside DHL in Hungary.
Are there any worthwhile reasons to use Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB over Windows 7 x64 right now?
Pardon me, the last time I was on /g/ was at the Windows 10 initial release in 2015

No point to Windows 10 unless you're buying a game from their store.
