I recommend Linux Mint over Kubuntu. Try both in a Virtualbox before committing. Mint will be more commonly seen because Cinnamon is a very popular and well-rounded DE.

If you're going to escape botnet, might as well learn some commands. They aren't difficult and honestly you can google anything you don't know. If that's what you plan on doing, Linux Mint would fit you perfectly fine.

Laptops and mobile devices do everything that normies want, but desktops will always be cheaper for higher specs and will have more room for cooling and such, so this means that they'll always have a place with businesses, professionals, etc.

Are web browsers just fundamentally broken? Is there something about the internet in general that makes it inevitably a shitty experience?

I think I've tried about 10 browsers for a couple weeks last year, and they all fail on at least one of these:
>too RAM hungry (all browsers, especially Chrome)
>botnet (all browsers which support more than early 2000's HTML)
>plugin problems (anything that isn't either Chrome or FF, especially FF clones suck)
>Instable (Light, a FF clone, would throw a bad SSL certificate error FOR EVERY CERTIFICATE)
>no plugins available like good adblockers etc.

For now I'll stick with FF. It uses a lot of RAM too which nowadays isn't that much of a problem anymore (doesnt mean it should be acceptable) but it works fine anyways. I used Chrome many years before until

What I really hope is that flash, java and the likes will finally die owing to html5 and browsers will stop forcing their greedy sync options no one cares about.

Here's a quick rundown on git. You literally only use these 6 commands 95% of times.

copy stuff from an online repo you own to your own local repo for editing

if you dont own the repo
>git commit -m "i made a change"
save changes you made in order to get ready to send them to your online repo once more
>git push
send stuff from local repo to online repo if you have an ssh key or password
>git status
a quick overview of your stuff
