Am i retarded if i can't understand how to use git and github?
Here's a quick rundown on git. You literally only use these 6 commands 95% of times.
>git clone
>git checkout
>git pull
>git add
>git commit
>git push
>git pull
copy stuff from an online repo you own to your own local repo for editing
>git clone
if you dont own the repo
>git commit -m "i made a change"
save changes you made in order to get ready to send them to your online repo once more
>git push
send stuff from local repo to online repo if you have an ssh key or password
>git status
a quick overview of your stuff

Should my github account have my real name or should I use a pseudonym?

Real, so employers can look at what you code (for free and openly)

git fet, rebase and stash are important too.

when an OP asks such a question, you automatically assume he is using github, since he is too retarded to setup his own git server or any other alternatives.

no, you are not alone. im still not quite into it. it doesn't feel very natraul, at least for me.

Real name, ALWAYS. Well, except if you're developing some open source hentai games on the side, maybe your employers don't need to know about that.
But the point is, the more projects you have to your name, the better. Definitely use your real name even if you're just starting out, small projects are still projects and show that you can get shit done and you're interested in your field (as opposed to being just some bookworm fresh out of college).

but what if i want to contribute to /g/ memes like Cox and Grand Theft Gentoo as well, is it possible to hide your pull requests?

Yes please! Really helpful

Create a free bitbucket account and play with git using private repositories there if it need to be online. It's better than github on this stage because if you don't know how to use git I can assume that the quality of your code is pretty low so it may be better to keep it hidden. Practice a little bit more and then put your toy project on github.

Until you fuck up once. Then you have to get a PhD on it.
