If you want to learn everything about JS, sure.

You probably just want to learn the good and useful parts about JS though, and not the million other ways to do any one thing, 99% of which are all horrible.
>>
Apparently the following are good:

• JavaScript - The Good Parts
• You Don't Know JS by Kyle Simpson - It's a whole series of books, but probably better after the basics are down.

There all on libgen.io...

What books can I read and takes notes from in order to understand GNU/Linux?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>61015396
In what way? Do you want to be a power user or just a normal user? Because you don't even need a book for daily use, and even for advanced stuff just a youtube video is enough.
>>
>>61015531
It just seems like a monumental task to even install ubuntu lts and run morrowind through wine for someone who has only been using windows and knows nothing about how operating systems actually work. Also if I read a wiki or watch a video I'll be easily distracted so books are preferable.
>>
>>61015593
Oh, you mean wine. Yes, that is something you can use youtube for, tons of videos. Also a quick search in google and you can install what you want.

But yes, WINE is as complicated as a Windows, with their DLL and shit. I don't use WINE unless I play a visual novel but those were no challenge.

Why's that surprising? Ryzen looked fine against Broadwell-E. Then Skylake-E shows up and it's literally modders vs wraith cooling folk.

I mean really, you think a Ryzen belongs in that PC when it could handle DA WATTZ!?

It feels like it should be a part of the type declaration though. It feels like I should be making a "void pointer" data type, not a "void" type but then saying "actually I want a pointer that'll dereference into that type".

They assumed their fabs would be able to handle monolithic dies with high yields. They assumed AMD was their only competition and not Qualcomm, Samsung, and IBM. They assumed they could keep node shrinking forever and not bother with a new architecture. They assumed wrong, now they're paying the price.

>Assemble your parts list
https://pcpartpicker.com/
>How to assemble a PC, select components & more (kind of outdated)
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php?title=Build_a_PC

If you want help:
>State the budget for your build (and country if not the USA).
>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate.
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?

CPUs:
>G4560 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R5 1400 - if you can't afford better or specifically need 8 threads but not a very powerful CPU
>R5 1500x - All you really need for 60fps with power to spare; Don’t get an i5.
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; Get a 1600x if you don't OC
>R7/Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/mixed use; Not required for just gaming.

GPUs:
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>RX 560 and GTX 1050Ti - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games
>RX570 - 1080p@60hz at high, running most maxed older games at 144+hz.
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@60hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; Go for the RX580 if you can.
>GTX 1070 - 1080p@144hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p.
>GTX 1080 Ti - 1440p@144 hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games; You're kind of going overboard with this one.
>AMD GPUs are suffering a lack of stock and Nvidia a rise in price thanks to e-currency miners

General:
>ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
>Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
>NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor.
>The Ryzen lineup comes with exceptionally good stock coolers. (with the exception of the 1600X) consider using them over any sub 35USD cooler.

>Ransomware has seeing an increasing amount of interest in the tech world, motivated not only by the increase in number and severity of attacks, but also by the fact that some companies do elect to pay the demands. In this case, Nayana, a South Korean web hosting provider, announced it is in the process of paying a three-tier ransom demand of nearly $1 million worth of Bitcoin. This decision comes following a ransomware infection that encrypted data on customer' servers. The company said 153 Linux servers were affected, servers which stored the information of more than 3,400 customers.

No one has ever claimed GNU/Linux is immune to malware. It is less likely to suffer from it when used as a home PC OS, but servers and corporate applications are prime targets for malware regardless of operating system.

Funnily enough, this wasn't even GNU/Linux's fault. Nayana was running MULTIPLE things that were TEN YEARS out of date. If they had updated even one time in the last 10 years this could have been avoided.

Post your component list, rate other anons', and ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to improve specs or build quality or to lower price, etc

Assemble your parts list; built-in price comparisons by vendor and a compatibility filter.

Note: RX 500 series graphics cards are sold out and severely overpriced because of a lack of supply. The GTX 1000 series is also overpriced currently overpriced for the same reason

I'm going into a STEM career and my program highly recommends that I get the Dell Latitude 5580, mostly because that's just the model they decided to go for this year, and their special you want me to buy it through their special vendor.
http://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/productdetails/latitude-15-5580-laptop

Here's the thing though, Dell is absolute garbage. And I am not going to spend any money on a Dell computer because I know everyone hates Dell and based on what I've heard about them, it's pretty reasonable to hate Dell.

So what are you guys recommend for something comparable to the Latitude 5580 in specs? I'd also like to be able to play certain games on it in the future, but most of them are shit like Sea of Theives, that first person pirate game from Rare, and also I wouldn't mind it being one of those 2-in-1 laptops that you can flip over into a tablet.

Taking all recommends and advice.

To be completely honest, its getting more and more saturated. The diversity thing sucks, and I'm a black male myself. But I hate seeing 100 people a year get into it for the money, and have no clue what they are doing. Its become a meme, because America needs to find the next big thing, so they shill tech like its the cure to everone's problem.

The future is bleak. But its not impossible to make it in tech.
