Post your component list, rate other anons', and ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to improve specs or build quality or to lower price, etc

Assemble your parts list; built-in price comparisons by vendor and a compatibility filter.

>To activate the Description, select build from sidebar then click on the title over the parts list
>Description contains notes, other options, and build skeleton for easy customization / cost savings
Note: RX 500 series graphics cards are sold out and severely overpriced because of a lack of supply. The GTX 1000 series is also overpriced currently overpriced for the same reason

It's a line of credit that functions just like a normal credit card but with 6 month no interest no payments. Then they start hitting you with 20% apr.

Basically I was looking at this

So after 6 months I'd start getting fucked. Yeah I'm just gonna stay away from this.

If you want help:
>State the budget for your build (and country if not the USA).
>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate.
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?

CPUs:
>G4560 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R5 1400 - if you can't afford better or specifically need 8 threads but not a very powerful CPU
>R5 1500x - All you really need for 60fps with power to spare; Don’t get an i5.
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; Get a 1600x if you don't OC
>R7/Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/mixed use; Not required for just gaming.

GPUs:
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>RX 560 and GTX 1050Ti - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games
>RX570 - 1080p@60hz at high, running most maxed older games at 144+hz.
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@60hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; Go for the RX580 if you can.
>GTX 1070 - 1080p@144hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p.
>GTX 1080 Ti - 1440p@144 hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games; You're kind of going overboard with this one.
>AMD GPUs are suffering a lack of stock and Nvidia a rise in price thanks to e-currency miners

General:
>ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
>Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
>NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor.
>The Ryzen lineup comes with exceptionally good stock coolers. (with the exception of the 1600X) consider using them over any sub 35USD cooler.
>>
So with the recent increase in card prices for Nvidia as well, what price do you guys think I could get for a like new MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X version? The Gigabyte 1080 is right around $500 right now and if I could sell my used 1070 for a higher price than usual I'd be willing to pay the difference.

Just got the most frustrated I've ever been building this PC for a friend.

Basically it's a spar parts build that my friend is gonna put his 480x and SSD/Hard Drive in. He had some ancient AMD CPU/MOBO but it let out the smoke. It was my old Gigabyte Z87 UD4h and 4770k that when I put up worked perfect. Dust it off just now, putting it in a Corsair 100R with a Arctic Liquid Freezer 120 cooler with a EVGA PSU that he bought new and had shipped to my place. So I get it all together, use an old SSD of mine just to test. On boot up all I get is a flashing cursor. Resetting bios, pulling the cmos battery, nothing changes. I switched over to the back up bios on the board and bam it boots, Windows installs fine, load up prime 95, let it run for a while, everything good. I check the bios. So today I got to box it up to take with me next week to my friends place to set it up, figure i'd check the bios first to see if they put out a new one, sure enough the did, I update it and bam i'm back to the flashing cursor

Since this worked when I put it up and the only change from then was using the iGPU I can only assume the latest bios breaks iGPU support. Really fucking frustrated, I have a Z97 mobo that is known good but i'd rather not give that up since it's kinda in use right now but i'm gonna take it with me in case it turns out it's not the iGPU.
>>
>>61014973
>No mention of the i7 7700K
>No mention of fast RAM
The 560 still loses to the 1050 on both raw performance and price/performance ratio metrics. The 1050Ti is ok if you're looking for the cheapest 4GB card, but really the sensible cards are 1050, 570/580/1060 6GB, 1070 (overkill) for 1080p

Otherwise not too bad, but the R5 1400 info can probably be deleted
>>
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/hcH6bj

any recommendations for upgrades? I'm etting an SSD fro my OS and game loads but keeping the 3 TB of storage for all of my other shit.
>>
>>61015236
Mark everything you already own / have on hand as purchased on PCpartpicker then repost. If you already have all that, post speccy as well.

The only upgrades would be the SSD + a new gfx card like the RX 570 when they come down in price. You could get an i5 4570 or better as well, but personally I'd hold out on the i3 for as long as possible then upgrade the whole platform. You'll see the biggest bang for your buck by upgrading the gfx card first

>>61015198
Contact gigabyte support by phone
>>
>>61015236
Obviously if you don't have that stuff, don't buy it now
>>
>>61015354
not to that new guy, but how the hell do I mark it as bought? I currently own all of those parts and the PC is assembled, I just don't know how to do that per se
>>
>>61015354
Whats the point calling for a board out of warranty? I tried all the stuff an end user can do. If it still won't boot with a GPU i'll just toss the board
>>
I'm assembling my first PC, just installed the motherboard. But I have a question regarding the I/O shield

Is it supposed to "bulge" out in the middle? It was pretty tough to get the motherboard lined up and locked in the first place. I can't even fit a thumb drive in most of the ports, if it fits it gets stuck quite badly.. I've googled around and people say it's normal, but surely it's not normal not being able to insert any devices? It looks a bit missangled on the top and bottom due this "bulge".

Motherboard is an Asus Z270E and the case is Fractal Design Define C.
>>
>>61015391
You mean on PC part picker ?
Click on "edit this part list"
and then click the cog beside the "buy" button and manually set a price/ set as purchased
>>
>>61015412
Customer support. Who knows what they might say, but usually you don't have to wait on hold for long

>>61015413
I/O shields are a bitch. You might have to bend or snip off pieces to get it to fit properly
>>
>>61015434
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/fs8LgL
>>
>>61015434
shit I forgot to add text, well whatever, anyways, this is my current build I am running the I3 stock freq. and voltage, nothing major, the GPU fucking hates the new Radeon Drivers, and can crash and die for some reason
>>
>>61015464
I'm sure it fitted.. What pieces are you talking about, metal or the padding?
>>
>>61015464
Maybe i'll call them later, I spent so many hours fucking with it i'm burned out.

On the plus size, for a cheap cooler that Arctic 120mm aio works great. Kept my 4770k in the mid 70s with prime running with my 4.5ghz over clock on it.

How bad will the bottleneck be with an 8350 CPU and 1070 GPU?

For stuff like Total War, it's pretty clear that it'll be awful. I'm more curious about Blender, Photoshop, or a an average newish game like Witcher 3.
>>
>>61015477
if you want to hoard data consider a NAS, either off the shelf or DIY solution.

Very bad. Consider Ryzen.

Buying the parts soon any advice or changes I should make? My friend offered me his 1060 6gb for $200.
>>
>>61015596
I'd take that 1060, if only because it's near impossible to get a 580 or any AMD card right now. If you can get a 580, do it.
>>
>>61015614
Other than that any other input?
>>
>>61015520
If you're at 1080p, huge bottleneck on some games. If 1440p you're fine but it's time to upgrade soon

>>61015488
Whatever's causing the bind

>>61015477
Like I said before, SSD + gfx card. I don't think a used i5 4570 is worth 120USD (ebay sold listings price). If you find that you're getting stutters with the 570, you might consider upgrading the CPU.

What's your budget anyway?

>>61015596
Get 3000/3200MHz RAM (check compatibility, some RAM that likely works in OP builds)
Get 240 or 256GB SSD
>>
>>61015625
spend more on the power supply. Something semi-modular or fully modular with fully black cables. IIRC, there's a Seasonic fully modular 520W for like $42
>>
>>61015625
Also, add an SSD to hold the operating system. 120 GB minimum.
And get faster ram. 3000 or 3200 mhz
>>
>>61015596
>arctic silver
Wasted money.
>RAM
Too slow, get 3000/3200.
>no SSD
Add one if you don't already have one, for example Samsung 850 EVO, PNY CS1311 or ADATA SU800.
>WD Blue
Get Toshiba P300, far better.
>RX580
Good luck finding one. Get a 1060 6G instead.
> My friend offered me his 1060 6gb for $200.
Do buy.
>EVGA 500B
Decent but if you want to OC get something better like EVGA G2/3 or Seasonic G 550W.
>wifi
Get a AC card, search for Gigabyte on PCP, should be around $49 or so.
>>
>>61015642
my budget is around 300 CAD max, I have to pay for college right now, so my budget is lower then the usual 500$
>>
>>61015642
>Whatever's causing the bind
The problem is that I have no clue what's causing it. I'll doublecheck tomorrow, but working with those dispenser screws were a pain in the ass.

>>
>>61015771
Looks good but get a 240GB if you can afford it and i really recommend a better PSU for OC, unless that doesn't matter to you.
>What thermal paste would you recommend?
The one that's preapplied on the cooler. AMD isn't jewshit and the cooler + thermal paste are actually good.
>>
>>61015520
i tried running CSGO on the analytical engine but only got 0.00000000003 FPS. this is why we need Lisa
>>
should I wait for x299 or build ryzen right now?
>>
>>61015771
Check RAM compatibility
Get aftermarket cooler if you're trying for anything over 3.8GHz
Don't need thermal paste
Get a bigger SSD - 240 or 256GB
>>
>>61015843
X299 is trash.
wait for Threadripper
>>
>>61015669
Not much you can get. I'd get a 240 or 256GB SSD, then upgrade the gfx card after that when you have the money saved up. Right now prices are crazy for gfx cards
>>
>>61015850
I don't plan on overclocking unless I can't get 60 fps.
>>
>>61015875
sounds like a fine idea to me, any recommendations? should I go green or red? I dont care about heat or noise too much so whatever seems like good bang for my buck I'll buy.

I looked through and found asus expedition gtx 1050ti, is it sort of comparable to my 770? If yes, I'm literally gonna buy it tomorrow

PNY CS1311 240GB SSD
Also selling your old gfx card will help a little

Better than your 770

Anybody have experience with the Fractal R5? I'm planning on sticking a 280mm radiator at the front, and I'll be using the topmost front caddie for an optical drive. This requires me to remove both HDD caddies.
Does the R5 allow me to stick one caddie somewhere else? I would prefer that I have space for a bottom intake fan. I will need space for two HDDs.

Sup /g/ I need some input on my budget gaming build, I roughly have $800 cad I'll be putting towards it. The gpu I have listed is just temporary until vega comes out. I have a monitor and other peripherals like keyboard, mous, etc. So that being said is there any improvements I can make to it or if I could build something better for the same price. Also should I save up and get windows 10 or just stick to GNU/Linux?

Why doesn't this stuff get more love? Someone on here posted about using it on their CPU contacts for lowered voltages a couple of months back. I had a bottle for keeping my headphone jacks from getting scratchy, and I decided to give it a try a couple weeks back. Already had my voltage as low as I could go and be stable, but I dropped it another step and let it run stress tests at night for a couple nights, and it works fine, no errors.
>>
>>61016354
PSU is likely too weak for Vega
Don't buy Vega unless you have a 1440p or 4K display
No need for cooler unless the stock cooler won't fit
Get faster RAM (3000/3200) and check compatibility
Get SSD when you have the spare change

Ryzen loves fast ram because of how it's built
Ryzen consists of 2 CPU complexes or CCX's. The CCX's are connected by AMD's "Infinity Fabric". If a Core from CCX1 wants to talk to a core from CCX2, if has to use the infinity fabric to due so. The infinity fabric runs at the speed of the ram so fast ram makes a HUGE performance improvement on Ryzen chips.

I was planing on upgrading the PSU to a be quiet! one when I buy the GPU, I'm pretty sure the stock cooler won't fit because of the size of the raven case.

Is faster ram (3000/3200) really worth the price I can get 12gb of 2666 ram for the same price as 8gb at 3200.

I'll be upgrading to a ssd pretty soon for my current pc so I'll have that for when I get the gaming one. My current pc can't even run a fricken gba emulator without stuttering and plays movies at like 25 fps so a upgrade is inevitable.

Also should I switch to windows 10 for gaming?

How does the average person getting a Ryzen CPU, aka 60hz gamers, need it in any way?

The average person wants to do multicore processing 3D rendering, complex code crunching as well as video encoding.
>>
>>61017222
On Intel, yea. On Ryzen, it's a very noticeable difference.
>>61017214
It doesn't make the CPU faster. The CPU will still operate at either the stock clockspeed or the overclock speed you set it to.
What this does is increase the IPC or instructions per clock. This makes a HUGE jump to single thread performance.
Some test with Ryzen 7 using 3600 mhz ram show it matches IPC with a 7700k.

>>61017233
Until the bubble pops or Eth becomes vulnerable to ASIC.
>>
>>61017193
Thanks /g/ didn't see that
>>
>>61017256
It has nothing to do with single-core performance, you said it yourself that it increased the communication speed between CCXs, how is two cores communicating together considered "single core" in any way?
>>
>>61017286
The infinity fabric does a LOT more than just allow communication between CCX's. That's a gross oversimplification. The infinity fabric affects everything because everything has to go through it.
Think of it kind like the CAN/BUS in a Car ECU/PCM and BCM interconnect. Every single thing goes through the can/bus. Flick the stalk to turn on the blinker? signal goes to the BCM, through the canbus to the blinkers. Push on the gas pedal, the signal goes to the BCM, through the can/bus, to the ECU/PCM and then to the electronic throttle body.

Don't do this. Ryzen is so much better than anything AMD can offer in the AM3 bracket. Just save for that upgrade. You have a long time to do so since AMD isn't ditching the socket till 2020.

Nvidia has been mainly building up their high end cards, and AMD has been focusing on their mid range. Just PLEASE, DO NOT buy Gigabyte. I work in a computer repair shop, and I have done several builds as well as RMA liaison work. Gigabyte builds cheap, low quality mobos and gpu's, especially with their cheapest 1070 card. I worked on a system with one, and I had to do a mobo liaison, and the bastards did not even send an IO shield with the replacement card after I had been on hold for about an hour. The cheap 1070 card's PCB was actually bent near the HDMI/DisplayPort ports. The bastards did not even have a backplate on it. For motherboards, buy Asus or AsRock. Don't buy any other types. For cards, buy EVGA, MSI, or Asus Strix.

That's plain false, Ryzen and Kaby-Lake can boot and use W7 just as well as other CPU architectures. Plenty of benchmarks have been done for both of those in W7 to check the performance difference and i booted in just fine, the only problems that were encountered were the one mentionned in here >>61019108

If you go on youtube and type in "windows 7 ryzen" you will see many people running that CPU on win7 with no problems whatsoever

Literally the only thing you have to do is to run a github script/some registry tweaks to re-enable windows updates, which are being blocked by kikerosoft on all win7 ryzen machines

Personally i hope this method also works when you restore a sysprepped windows 7 macrium image on a ryzen machine because otherwise i'd have to re-install all that crap all over again heh

Addendum, even if that didn't work you could still manually get the update either through WSUS-like programs or another machine and then install it as a standalone. The windows update agent itself still werks on win7 ryzen out of the box, it's just that it can't pull any updates from the server if you don't install that github stuff

I would re-read the part of manual that talks about connection the the case front panel, especially the part about where power button is.
No, really, if you press it the board should start up the power supply, if it doesn't something is wrong with it.
Particularly in your case make sure that the connector is not on power and reset pins, but rather on power pin and ground.

So I posted yesterday about having issues with my new psu. I originally thought that I plugged in the wrong cables at it smelled kinda burnt when trying to star the computer. I have now redone it and I have identified that the issue is the cable going from the psu to all my ssd's and hdd's. I originally just kept the cable from my older psu as I didn't think this was a problem. I tried to plug it into the only peripheral and SATA slot that it could fit into as this one got the half circle pins and I only have one slot for that apparently. Pic related.
I'm thinking that I should just grab a new cable and try again as the computer won't start while it's plugged in atm for some reason.
Any tips or ideas?
>>
>>61020421

Looking to upgrade my pc. I'm a frugal jew so I'm not doing a complete upgrade.

I've been rocking an 8320 for a few years now and still no overclocking. I'd like to get something more energy efficient and I'm actually considering Ryzen now. I considered Intel many months ago, even a Xeon. Now, Ryzen is priced sweetly.

So I'm looking at a 1700 since it's apparently runs at 65W. I'm really just a casual user most of the time but occasionally I do hobby stuff like edit media(video, audio, pictures) and I like that shit to go fast. Since I've gone full time to Linux I don't game much anymore. I'd like to run Windows in a VM to get some programs I bought running again(Ableton and Lightroom).

Mostly just going to upgrade:
>CPU
>Mobo
>RAM

Other than that I have an SSD, three HDDs a case. a PSU and a GPU and a cooler, though I might go for an AIO water cooler maybe. Which AM4 boards are worth getting? I'd like to get at least 32GB of RAM and a PS2 port.

Extra bonus question:
I heard Ryzen is working in a few Hackintosh builds, would getting Ryzen really be worth it if I could go that route and ditch Windows forever?
>>
>>61017883

im about to buy a 4790k for 200 bucks. should i just flip it and put the money towards a r5 build? or would it be better just to pick up a used mobo for like 50 bucks and stick with that. id be in like 250 total for the 4790k (bringing ram over) whereas the best I can do for a r5 1600 build is like 350 with ram assuming i get the mad deal at microcenter and a b350 board. (i need 16gb and I'd really rather not go with a 1500x) either way i kinda get screwed with pcie since i really do kinda need more lanes than they both offer

Its stretches across the whole bottom, but it has different heights. It sort of looks like waves. I didn't move the monitor or touch it all recently. You need Kaby Lake -compatible bios to run g4560. So if your h110 comes with older bios version then it won't boot. If that happens then you most likely need a skylake CPU to update the bios.

I applied an overclock to my R7 1700 (3.7GHz @ 1.275v) but cpu-z and master ryzen are not showing the right voltage even under full load, how come?
I did it through the asus prime b350m-a, voltage is a 0.0875 offset. CPU-Z shows 1.181 and Ryzen Master shows 1.1875 (stock voltage). Rebooting into the bios shows the right voltage. Applying an overclock through Ryzen Master also doesn't show the voltage shown by CPU-Z (even when changing both frequency and voltage, and restarting CPU-Z)
The frequency however is right accross all of the softwares.
Is there anything wrong right there? Is it just the readings that are wrong? Running a few seconds of prime95 didn't seem to give any instabilities even though it should for 3.7 at stock voltages
