To all the fags that live in Nevada amd Arizona, how do you keep your computers running cool in this heat?
16 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>61012514
For the most part, ambient heat (as long as your computer isn't outside and in the sun) does not effect a typical gaming computer's cooling potential.

Also air conditioning...

if I have been baited rip me.
>>
I use AMD only. When the heat from my computer comes into contact with the heat from outside they cancel each other out.

'case' for me was something i avoided initially because it looked weird, but when i actually looked into it proper it's actually really simple
i suppose it could be adjusted to look less weird, but then you'd be breaking things for very little benefit

I've considered this, but aren't most employers, IF they are looking for people experienced with linux, aren't they looking for people who know bash scripting 99% of the time?

No enterprise linux servers, clusters, etc use anything but bash typically, to my knowledge anyway. Correct me if I am wrong.

I'm a US Navy sailor stationed here in California. I'm looking for a gaming laptop that won't break my pathetic budget but is decent enough to allow me to play with my friends. I was looking at an HP Omen at the NEX here on base, but I'm open to other suggestions. It should be a laptop because I'm trying to maintain my mobility. Thanks in advance.

Dell U2414H.jpg

I just bought a Dell U2414H new for $179 and I'm actually blown away by how good it is. The colors are amazing, the viewing angles are way bigger than I'll ever need, there's literally no backlight bleed or IPS glow and it doesn't look like a 12 year old gamer monitor. And all of this for $179. I can't fucking believe it.

FWIW my previous monitor was an Asus PG279Q which is a 27" 1440p 165Hz IPS monitor and it cost me around $700. Here's the thing. The Asus looks like pure shit compared to the Dell.

WHY?! WHY?! WHY DOES MY $179 DELL IPS LOOK SO MUCH BETTER THAN MY OLD $700 ASUS IPS?! IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE!

>>
Dell actually gives a shit about how good there monitors look. Your Asus was built for one thing: refresh rate, as long as the panel can give the 165hz thats all Asus cares about

I have this old Pentium 3 rig lying around and a friend of mine came over yesterday and finally got it working with me. It has a beyond repairable install of 98SE on it and I don't want that anyway so i wanted to know what /g/ thinks i should put on it.
If you had to suggest anything, this is the stuff I want:
>OS
>Office software
>web browser
>image viewing and possible video playback
>music playback
Specs:
>Socket 370 Pentium 3 1GHz
>128MB RAM
>20GB HDD
>ATi Rage something 8MB (seems like a bottleneck to me but I don't have anything else)
>really generic soundcard
I already tried latest slackware and it gave a super generic kernel panic.
Suggestions, /g/?

How cucked is Windows Server 2016 compared to Windows 10?

Surely it is better? Would Microsoft really shaft business users with botnet shit for a server OS?

Also, assuming I can install it, drivers work, and switch priority to programs rather than background services, surely it is better than Windows 10?

>less bloat installed by default
>more control over startup processes
>can remove server management feature
>must be some under the hood tweaks that make it a bit better

Well?

Same buggy piece of shit, just like LTSB2016, only more annoying.
>>
>>61011484
I use it as my desktop OS and I like it.
Will take some time to figure it out, but once you're done you'll have a very clean install of Windows 10 with a security level setting for telemetry and updates able to set to manual.
Bloatware is about on the same level as stock 7.
I like it. Some software is not supported though like most anti virus software.

Is there a delay in Processor to Graphic card technology release and why?

I had the impression that Graphic cards dont have the same micro architecture as the Processor they publish previously.
Intel & AMD appear to use 1-2 year old micro-architecture in their "new" graphic cards.

AMD released the new Radeon rx 5XX graphic cards but no one talks about Zen or a giant performance leap, similar to the Ryzen hype.

When can we expect a graphic card with Zen micro architecture?

BTW

GPU is a parallel processor

CPU is a serial processor

They are entirely different animals
>>
>>61011224
???
Graphics cards use completely different processors than CPUs. A "Zen" GPU will never exist, because Zen is a CPU architecture.

Since you seem to have asked this question in genuine ignorance, here's why:
>CPUs need to do a wide variety of things including managing hardware and allowing security features
>In contrast, GPUs generally only need to crunch numbers
>Since GPUs only handle simple operations, they need much less silicon per "core" (think a CUDA core, not "more cores lmao" ayymd)
>This allows GPUs to pack a couple thousand simplified "cores" onto a single card, but the cores are only used for things requiring heavy number crunching (like calculating colors for pixels)

Basically, CPUs and GPUs are both processors, but fulfill entirely different roles and are optimized for completely different uses. It wouldn't make any sense to try to build a Zen GPU.
