Where do the fans in bathrooms exit to? I like to smoke in my bathroom and always wonder if my upstairs neighbors or side neighbors can smell it
23 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
They are supposed to vent to the outside. I have seen them go straight into the attic or even just blow air into the joists between floors.
>>
>>933189
What would you look for in the outside of the building?
>>
>>933188
To answer your first question, these fans are supposed to exit outside, but could also vent into a central duct leading outside if this is in a modern apartment building.

To answer your second question, yes your neighbours might smell it, of which about 5% via the extract fan and the connected ducts and 95% via natural ventilation through windows and doors, even when they are closed.

Anybody here have experience with NFC tags and the hardware used to read them? Is there a way I can make my own readers so I'm not spending 50 bucks a pop?
18 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Any modern smartphone can read them.
>>
>>929965
Yes but I'm looking into a project that requires about ten separate readers all working at the same time. I don't have 10 smartphones
>>
You can buy ten unlocked cell phones for less than 50 each.

does anyone know how to dynamic motion tracking or whatever its called in blender? im trying to do gif related, basically focus on a specific part of a video and make the scene move around it as if the camera was locked exactly in place against the object. literally the only tutorials i can find are for putting 3d objects into a video with motion tracking, which is not what i want.

Ok so I now I'm retarded and an autist, let's get that out the way. I was trying to replace some speakers in my car and when I unscrewed the bolts I also accidentally removed the wire in between them that allows the seats to go down when u push the release. At the time I didn't realise and now my back seats no longer come down. I need help if anyone can, I just don't know how to fix this.
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Did you try turning it off and back on again?
>>
>>933943
I dont understand what you are saying
Cant you just rebolt whatever wire you pulled off?
>>
No so the bolts part is sort of irrelevant, so the buttons you push to detach the back seats is obviously controlled by the wire. I accidentally detached the wire itself that allows the car seats to go down, and I can't reattach it because when I put the seats back up they are covering the wire And it's unaccesable. :(

What part in my elec furnace can I replace to make my unit more efficient, lower bills? Pic related
Please read below..

You go us always seem to know everything about hvac/mechanical systems so I'm gonna run this by u. Long story short
I own a 2 family building
I lived up stairs while renovating bottom unit. Too unit had an existing hvac system about 6 years old total, when I bought the place. This unit does not seem that efficient stl winters would run me 300 dollars in elec bills, all elec.
Now I live in bottom unit, I picked out the system, high efficiency, also a heat pump. My bills r running more like 100-120.
I have upper unit rented they had a elec bill 300 mine 115 , I think it's my furnace how can I upgrade the upstairs unit furnace to make it more energy efficient, what parts do I replace?
9 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
You just answered your own question, replace the electric furnace with something that isn't an inefficient piece of shit.
>>
Generally I would always recommend doing upgrades to piping. A thick wrap would help insulate the pipes that carry you heat and water to their destination. As far as mods to the unit... In not sure really.

It's a USB thumbdrive you can put on a keychain
>>
>>932332

not necessarily. it could be a access key for the safe. newer safes have these electronic keys you put into a slot or they have some you just touch the side of it to a plate like a RFID reader and access the safe.

makes sense if OP found it while working on a safe
>>

Yeah, I don't know if I buy that. Take a better picture op

Can we talk tools? I like to carry a pocket knife with me, it's one of the most important, not as a weapon or some /b/ tier shit like that but for utility.

In my opinion nothing can match the high quality and practical user friendly interface of an Microtech Ultratech.

Utility? Practical? A spring knife? Go back to /b/
>>
a big knife is infinitely useful: i just have to pull it out a lil' bit and my hoes stop yaking and get back to they corners where they belong.
>>
>>931680
yeah, there's really no benefit of a spring knife that is worth the hassle of dealing with weapons laws. I can open a regular folder (even one without the little assist knob or 'spring assist') one handed, since i still have all my fingers.
Plus, my instinct has always been to not trust the locking mechanism of a lot of folding knives. framelocks always seem to jam open on me, and don't trust the straight folders, so lockback for the win imo.

I have build many mechanical guns in my early life, all of them with LEGOs and so far they all have worked wonderfully, the only problems I experienced were caused by rubber bands breaking or the shock of the mechanism slowly loosening the pieces.
I want to know what Materials are the best and what should I expect for this project.
Since I have only made complicated builds in LEGO I may be following a similar building system for now.

Steel is best.
Rifled barrel really helps.
>>

Steel is my dream goal, however I would prefer something cheaper and easier to work with for the prototypes.
Also, do you think that a Rifled barrel will help for a subsonic projectile? This protect may be just a glorified crossow

I need some quick design suggestions for a strong and cheap as fuck 1300x800 desk, I need have 4 built by this time tomorrow for hopefully less then $100 AUD with an absolute max of $200.

>>
>>933904
Considering that is a fairly standard desk size and I referred to AUD I thought the average persons deduction skills would figure it out, but in case you didn't its mm that I am referring to.
>>
Does it need to be 1300? Will 1200 do? I only ask because ply will be your cheapest option, but it comes in 1200 or 2400 length. If you can get away with 1200 then you can make two desks per one sheet of ply.

How stable do these tables nee dto be? Are they for display or working on?

>>933904
Lrn2logicalDeduction you idiot. Do you genuinely think he means 1300 meters by 800 meters or something?

I have a kobo aura Ereader, and lately I've been wanting to improve its battery life by a gigantic amount and/or making it never needing to be charged (like a solar panel or handcrank). My ereader has great battery life, but I'd like to see just how far I can go.

But let's just look at the battery life idea. I have two options I can think of so far:
1) connect some external power cells to my ereaders carrying case and just use my usb charge cable to connect battery to ereader.
2)replace the internal battery with something much larger. somehow.

My goal is to make the battery life ridiculously long

any ideas? anyone else do something similar?

There's always plenty of space inside consumer electronics cases, go for it and cram some 18650s in there.

I'm planning on sticking a flat metal board on a wall because I'm placing a bulletin board which is magnetic. The question is what kind of metal will effectively stick without making the magnet easily coming off.

Also what kind of glue will I place the steel over the wall?
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>932540
Just spray a sheet of steel with enamel then glue it to the wall. Instant magnetic white board. Google says drywall adhesive. Just ask your hardware store which adhesive is good for attaching brushed stainless to drywall in a kitchen. Because that's a thing people do for splash guards.
>>
>>932556
But I already bought a magnetic board, It's too late to do that now.

It's for my office, and everytime I write something on the board, I do it on my chair and think, not standing up your ass everytime.

So I bought a fairly moderately decrepit victorian property cheap because I was sick of renting and had visions of learning a bunch of new skills and having something productive to put my resources towards. I was also sick of renting and basically thought that it was one way to drastically change the direction of my life within the next 10 years compared to the path I was previously on.

It has been approximately 18 months and in that time I have ..

>Replaced and renovated the fences and walls which form the boundaries incurring the wrath of the neighbours due to the fact that I'm new, they are old, they apparently had long standing previous 'word of mouth agreements' with previous owners etc. I don't believe I was being unreasonable.

>Decommissioned the old boiler, installed a new one, put in radiators and heating downstairs and partially upstairs.

>Installed a new staircase.

>Fixed a bunch of minor details involving interior walls, floors, fixtures and detailing, bit of decorating etc.

>Fitted a kitchen and a modern cooking setup.

>Fitted solid fuel heaters and lined the chimneys in both downstairs rooms which previously had large open brick fireplaces. Also pointed up the chimneys and replaced some of the lead work flashing.

>Removed and rebuild an asbestos outbuilding with a single level single pitched roof garage so I'd have a clean, dry workshop.

>Cleared so much junk, rubble, trash etc from the garden. Built an exterior wood shed for firewood.

I'm just getting sick of it now. It is never ending. Last couple of months I had some roof damage which I'm not going to be able to attend to until the weekend and I'm sick of being up on the roof which desu wants completely stripping and relaying. The decor is just a stop gap process because ideally the house wants rewiring. The north aspect wants re-pointing and spalling/damaged brickwork wants cutting out and replacing. The interior of that side of the house seems to take on a bit of moisture.

At the moment I feel physically and mentally ruined. With my current job taking up 40+ hours a week every free moment is basically carrying out DIY and because I'm time short and need to do it around working I can't undertake massive work without taking time off which means my relationship is suffering because I've never any time, money or inclination to take a holiday or even socialise much. My girlfriends optimism is quickly turning into generally being resentful of life, but then she IMO isn't holding up her end of the deal by also growing and changing as a person, she basically wants to work, lounge around in relative comfort and do nice social things.

Ok, so if the roof needs replacing I can budget for that and then that is done, but I can't then afford to do anything else except minor work like pointing, bit of brick work, keeping the garden from being an overgrowing hellhole etc. The roof is structurally sound, but the nails holding the slate in place are 130+ years old and as a result a couple tend to rot out every few months meaning I'm back up their nailing them down and securing them with hooks. There are thousands of nails on the roof so this isn't a very rational way to deal with the roof except in the short term.

I've got all the plaster mouldings at the front needing painting up. The wood frames on the porch etc need painting, and windows at the side and some at the back are still single glazed timber framed and while not rotted out are basically made of paint.

I guess I'm just so stressed I can't prioritise or muster up the motivation to do things except which are crying out for attention. I've got old wall mounted gas heaters in some rooms which need disconnecting, bricking up and making good and then the interior will need plaster repairs and decorating. Doesn't make sense to do them until I'm possibly rewiring because that will disturb the plaster on those walls in those rooms as well.

I paid maybe 50 grand below rate for this house 'done'.
>>
Anyway, I guess I'm just venting. Basically the problem is.

>Tackle jobs as they appear due to being urgent.
Tends to be a huge waste of time and money because you repeat work like cleaning, decorating and disposing of waste a bunch of times because jobs lead to other jobs.

>Tackle one or two major jobs a year lumped together in some sort of priority, IE roof alongside guttering and fascias, soffits, barge boards, pointing due to having scaffolding up.
Costs pretty much 90% of my income after priority bills and because I'm paying others it is about as expensive as the first way, just less soul and time consuming.

Basically at my current speed of work and income this house is going to take 20 years to sort out. I don't think I'll remain sane nor will my relationship. I'm considering selling it but then I'm concerned that I'm going to encounter hundreds of idiots trying to knock it down because it is what it is, an older house requiring work doing to it to bring it up to a high standard.

Then what? Buy something modern in a shit area which is designed for people who like to work and watch TV to occupy?
>>
Urghh I'm just venting I guess. I think this would be easier if I had someone else on my side.

My gf can't understand why I'm not decorating the 1960's decor upstairs because I'm like we aren't decorating until the roof is done because the ceiling is water damaged and will need ripping down and replacing or boarding over and I'm not doing that until I'm ready to fit central heating in this room because of the mess and I'm not doing that until the floor comes up which isn't happening until I rewire and I'm not doing that until the roof is done.
