1. Find basics about bonsai styles and shapes.
2. Choose your plant, optimally young one. It should be strong, healthy, with flexible wood so you can wire it.
3. Cut unnecessary branches and wire the rest to get the basic shape. Bonsai wires are special - soft eloxed aluminium. They are much easier to shape than normal wires.
4. Let your plant grow for some time in normal container or even in free soil. Check wires regularly so they don't cut into the growing bark. If they are starting to do it, immediately remove them and later re-wire your plant again.
5. Try to improve the root system by adding a lot of very small stones to the soil. It promotes the root branching.
6. Cut and shape your plant when there is enough of new growth. That is usually once or twice per year.
7. If root system is strong and compact enough, you might move your plant into a bit smaller container.
8. Later, when your plant starts resembling a bonsai and gets some price, you can consider moving it into a bonsai pot.

- Rosemary is good herb for making an alternative bonsai. It makes a lot of foliage and can be shaped easily.
- White part you mentioned is called dead wood. It's the part of a tree, where bark that doesn't feed any branches was removed.
- Growing bonsai is a hobby that needs a lot of patience. If you have enough space for it, get more cheap plants and experiment. It takes 2 or more years to make a bonsai.

There's a function called extrude, which takes a 2D vector and adds a third dimension, essentially turning it into a prism of sorts.

It's still a 2D program though so the result will still be a 2D vector.

I can't see CorelDRAW being useful for generating 3D data for this machine. For some pretty technical drawings, yes...

There are object properties in coreldraw that let you set line lengths and angles (which shouldn't be needed if you turn on snap to angle).

The laser cutter just takes vector paths so just export those.

You'll have to figure out and plan all the measurements before hand though.

What kind of laser cutter can't work off of dxf or some other 2d format that you can export to from solidworks?

Trial and error, replace hardware until you pinpoint the damaged element.
Try a different psu for starters. Unplugging everything you don't need.
Sure it could be blown caps if your mobo is quite old. You'll know the bloated ones when you see them.

thx. forgot to mention that the MB is about 6 years old. all the caps look ok - no bulging or leaks. when i manually jump the "PS ON" and "GND" pins on the 24-pin PS connector, the PS turns on (and produces the correct voltages). but when i plug the 24-pin connector into the motherboard, the PS does not turn on. why is the motherboard not turning on the PS?

Looks like one of the buffer board IC's has failed or a hot press ribbon cable connecting to the inside of the LCD has bad solder joints. Does pressing around the display make any of the segments come back good?

I'm currently building one for my girlfriend. Taking forever on it because we live in an apartment and she can't use it here.

You can find plans for a ghetto one with a washing machine motor online.

The motor is not a good choice though due to the fact they are a/c and heat up when you limit the power on them.

Your best bet is to find a deent sized d/c motor with PWM. Treadmills are an easy source of these.

and in RPM and hp what are the numbers??

If you mean me, I'm not 100% sure yet. Math says about 300 which is a bit high. That is also assuming the speed on the motor is accurate. Often the numbers are high. Plus I can limit it down a little if need be.

Current motor is 2.3HP Max with 1.75 HP Continuous rating. Overkill but the motor was free.

Use very high quality blades when cutting MDF, because cutting MDF is tough and dulls your shit quick.

Nothing is going to be particularly structural or load bearing. Anything that may take a little extra abuse will have internal reinforcements, so it's cladding round a structure inside.

If any of what you're doing is going to be outside or exposed to the elements, forget it. MDF soaks up moisture like kitchen towel. Weak as fuck when it's damp.

you have internal and external screw calipers, I beleive those are by Starret, and if so, they're fucking great tools.

there 4 micrometers there of various sizes, which are superb tools for accurate measurement.

the wood box, taps and dies, for screw cutting and thread-cutting on rod and holes respectively.
the round things with four holes in them are dies, which should mount into a sort of two-armed wrench. Each one should be punched with a number or letters. ie, 1/4 WW (1/4 inch Whitworth) or M6 (metric M6). Given the sizes, and the thread pitch on the taps (the screw-like pieces that are used to cut threads into holes), I expect they'll be non-metric.

the cardboard box looks like drill bits, all well stored. take one or two out and look and see if they have any name markings on them? Look to me like pillar drill bits, possibly with a 1MT taper on the ends.

Lift your feet when you walk for a start. Avoid synthetic clothing, wear leather shoes etc. Friction = charge. Reduce friction, reduce charge. A room humidifier might work as well, its easier to build a charge in a dry environment than a not so dry one.

Done it dozen of times, aways works. When I am lazy I do this with clenched rusty stuff too.
