not really DIY, but I'm looking for inline universal automatic cable winder. Pic related - exactly what I'm looking for but universal so I can use it for any cable like laptop charger cables, mouse/keyboard cables, phone charger cords...

I've searched but I haven't found anything useful. There is one product if you search for cable winders, but it's not inline.

Universal cannot exist because the cables/cords you have listed all have very different diameter and they all require different winding/bending radius, unless you make one yourself with variable sizes of circles to fit different wires

No. there isn't anything that is universal. If you wanted to, you'd contact someone in the prototyping business and have them try to make you one for a ridiculous amount.
Otherwise, over-under coiling and >>932724

Hey guys I have an old model 302 western electric phone
I want get it to work again but I need to replace the wire that plugs into my phone jack, so if I did this do you think it will work? If so, how do I do it?
(Pic related is the phone)

>>
You could just wire it directly into a phone jack.

Tip and ring from the phone. Find your jack.

It's the red and green or blue and white wires.
>>
Protip: that phone uses pulse dialing so unless you get a converter, you won't be able to use it for any touch tone applications. So no calling customer service.

I got the Overnight Sensations kit for Christmas an I was wondering if anyone here have built some. Any tips? This'll be my first speaker build but I've soldered before and the cabinet just gets glued together, so I don't anticipate any issues.

I suppose this can also become a general speaker-building thread

bar clamps and non expanding wood glue, maybe quick disconnects for inside the cabinet?

maybe some tape to label which is TL/TR, ML/MR.

That's all I can think of when I assembled a kit
>>
I built my pair in 2012, mids are fuckin amazing.

Anyway make sure you have clamps to glue the cabinet together so it goes together properly. The wiring and general building etc was fast and easy, the finish is what took me goddamn forever. If you're painting and care about finish START WITH A WOOD SEALER holy shit that would have saved me so much time and primer. I primered and sanded goddamn I can't remember how many times, used some Spackle for the tiny gaps at the cabinet seams too. Build took me a couple days, mostly waiting for glue to dry. Finishing took me a month.

Also I found they were... Weird using as computer speakers. Idk something sounded off, they sounded better at small room distance. I think one of the tweeters was slightly lower in efficiency than the other, it was visibly different, that may have been it. I didn't notice the difference from small room distance so I ended up putting them in my living room.

Also, before you glue them shut tune how much polyfill you want in there, just play around with different amounts until you like the sound. The back press-fits well enough for temporary listening.

what kind of adapter do i need to be able to plug this small fan into the outlet directly?
19 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>932338
One that supplies the same voltage and current that the fan requires to operate.
>>
>>932338
5v wall wart. Any cell phone charger will do.
>>932339
Current of the power supply can be greater than the current of the fan. Power supply current rating tells you the maximum it can supply. The current it will supply to the fan is the current draw of the fan.
>>
>>932338
5v regulated adapter rated above 80mA (so basically any 5v adapter). Red wire is positive, black wire negative, and white is the fan speed signal (tach).

Alright /diy/, first time posting here and I have a project that's been fucking with my head. I have a dated car, a 2003 Chrysler Sebring and the headlights on it suck a whole lot of fucking dick. To compensate, I bought a pair of Plasmaglow Lightning Eyes, which are just waterproof LED strips with nothing but one 12V wire and one ground wire (pictured)

My problem is I have to wire those lights into my car, but every video or guide I've found on youtube shows fuses that I don't believe I have. Hopefully you guys can help me wire this through, and tell me what tools I'll need to get it done.

Thanks in advance.

well when do you want them on?
if you want them on all the time then put in a new fuse in a spare carrier and connect them to that
if you want them on with the car wire them into ignition after a fuse
if you want them on with headlights then wire them into the headlights
if you want them on with interior lights then wire them into interior lights
if you want them on when you wash your windows wire them into your washer jets.

you can always mixup some epoxy to make a "bare" looking insulated drive just put it on a piece of milk carton and "pop"it out once dried

Why are you abusing your friend like that? He clearly is not the least bit interested.

Your "friend" Braden clearly fucking hates you. Look at his one word replies. He doesn't fucking care in the least bit. You're just that asshole friend who has no one to talk to, so you keep talking to the friends who don't give a fuck and just tolerate you.

Not to mention you talk like a fedora wearing asshat.

Some tips for life: Don't act like simple shit like following a guide is some grand quest, don't constantly insert people's name into conversation thinking that makes you seem more intelligent, and finally when people give one word replies to your statements, they generally don't give a fuck.

Ok, to make a long story short, my hands are shit but I want to try to carve things.

the conclusion i have reached is use foam.

foam itself is relatively expensive, and large so i don't want to buy pre made pieces.

is there any diy foam i could make, that would have little to no air pockets, (think the fiam normally has .01mm air holes or less, but than there is one area that looks like it could be mistaken for swiss cheese) that i could make in fairly small quantities or containers, empty soda cans?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>931852
I dont think you are going to be able to make your own foam any better.

What kind of carving are you talking about
>>
>>931869
sharp knife, but sense its just foam, i could probably be able to use an exacto knife more precisely.

quality wise... i'm not expecting it to be perfect, just wondering if there was an option that would piss me off.
>>
>>931884
for an ultra ghetto version you could use spray can expanding foam, spray it into a frame of the shape you want and then carve it?

Not sure how toxic it would be to handle over a large period of time but it might work?

Cheap alternative to RC hydraulics?

I want RC hydraulics but one piston alone costs you more than fucking 100 bucks. Which is absolutely insane. And hydraulics are a pain in the ass to work with anyway, so I want to make it manually.

What is the best way to make them? I was thinking maybe mod some syringes with small tubes and an air compressor. So the hydraulics become pneumatics.

Any ideas how to control it? Those RC hydraulic sets are way too expensive.

K.I.S.S.

Can you use an electric linear actuator?
If so, do that.
>>
>>931397
> Which is absolutely insane
Tends to be the way, they are high tolerance, precision made devices that need to take a hell of a beating, and because hydraulics tend to be messy, complex systems, not many people use them unless literally nothing else will do the job. Low demand = Smaller production runs = Premium pricing.

> I was thinking maybe mod some syringes with small tubes and an air compressor. So the hydraulics become pneumatics.

I've actually tried this, the rubber cap on the syringe plunger is a pretty tight fit to the tube, meaning you need a fuck load of pressure which tends to blow the lines off the nipple before the plunger actually moves. Hydraulic worked a little better but it was messy as fuck and the tight cap still made life difficult.

Whats your application?

I already made basement plans on my tablet and I wanted to know what regulations I should know of before I start working on it. I went to a local hardware store and brought my tablet with the plans on it to ask for help/suggestions about certain regulations and they said they didn't handle stuff like that nor did they know of any places that did.

I just want to know what regulations to go by or if anyone know of a site that gives such regulations for the state od Illinois.

Thanks.

City and state codes are available on .gov websites. I dont' know what those websites are for your area but you can usually search for building code.

The reason hardware stores don't get involved with code or plan approval is because they don't like to be sued or be hit with city inspector fines which can be pretty steep.

If its an actual basement you're going to have plumbing problems if its not already setup for drainage. Water has a tough time going up thus why not many toilets are below ground.

Some localities demand all floorplans be approved before permits are pulled. If you're deadset on doing all the work yourself, find the building department contact number and call them. Talk to a permit desk worker and explain what you're trying to do, WHO YOU ARE and what will be necessary.

Also, you don't need no codes are permits if you never intend on selling the house. Even then, you can sell it "as is" not up to code and skirt inspections if the buyer gives no fucks.

Thanks. I might go by my municpal center today to get more info. If the bathroom is too much I'll see about leaving it out of the plans. That I believe will be the biggest headache and cost anyways.
