Look at those bulbs side by side. The LED bulb has a wider base (housing the power supply electronics) which won't fit some light fixtures.

Hey /diy/, I have a broken wii sitting around collecting dust, and I thought, "hmm, maybe I can turn this into a pc!"

Trouble is, I know jack shit about the wii, it's hardware, or how to change the firmware and software.

My end goal is a wifi running a desktop os on the wii's hardware.

So, thoughts? Help? Anything????
Is this even possible?

I have a large pile of treetops, brush and shitty garden waste in my back yard. I need to disassemble it. the chainsaw doesnt cut it. it just makes the thin branches wobble and bend down to the ground and i cant run a chainsaw into the dirt. the ridiculous long handled branch pruners I have with the 1m long handles just bends around the 4cm wide branches.

the internet tells me that kaiser blades/brush axes/brush hooks are good for this sort of job. anyone have experience? I am considering just making a bundle of faggots and using them to make a hugelbed

had a ton of brush left over after cutting down a tree and it took forever to separate stuff to break it down and burn it....but that was pretty much the only way; bit by bit

I'm a custom woodworker and got a request to build a set of cornhole boards as an infinity mirror. My question is how would the hole look? There will be a gap of 3/4" between the mirrors and a hollow wooden disc will fit between the mirrors at the hole. This disc will also be wrapped in leds. Is this gonna look like shit?

This board is fine.
I reckon the disc will appear much like the circle in the center of pic related. The inside of the hole would obviously not have this effect, as there is no mirror on the inside of the hole. But the outside would.

I recently transplanted some guts from a radio controlled clock and stuck it in anohter clock that's in an awkward place and often gets forgotten. The ultimate goal is to stick a solar cell in the clock and just leave it to exist. Unfortunately, the clock I transplanted the guts into is all metal, so the radio controlled parts are having troubles pulling the signal. I read about passive resonant loop antennas that you could make and just stick in your attic, and field concentrator antennas that you put behind/near the clock itself to help the signal.
The clock itself has a thin wire looped and waxed around a ferrite rod. in the back of the clock module. What can I do to try and beef up the signal? How would I go about calculating and making those antennas?

Is it supposed to glow by itself (not charged by light)? If so, it used a radioactive element of some sort (usually radium or tritium) and that has decayed. There is no way to "refresh" it, you'd have to apply new paint. And good luck getting that.

Made a thread on /o/ but figured /diy/ would be better.

I want to build a set up like in pic related inside of my truck.
I have a camper shell that im not afraid of drilling or cutting into.
The camper has detachable rails also.

Im planning on sleeping in it M-F in order to stop having to deal with traffic and actually get a life again.

>up at 3am everyday
>commute 1 hour + with no traffic
>afternoon commute is 3+ hours in stop and go traffic
>always tired and stressed out
Ive been making that commute for 2 years already and im losing it.

I have the 2x4s and sheets of plywood in my yard.

What else can i add to my camper in order to make it better?

>>

Curtains are the first things that come to mind. If you can fit an actual mattress in there it'll make a huge difference.
>>
>>965555
I was thinking that too.

And i have a Single size air mattress i use for camping that actually fits perfectly between the wheel wells.

Shouldve mentioned that the truck is a 2003 Tacoma with a 6' bed.

I have other camping gear i can use.

And the cabinets would have some of my tools stored in it along clothes, dry food stuffs, etc.
>>
Uh, so the obvious question is if you're considering abandoning your current residence to live in your truck, why not just move closer to your job to avoid the commute?

A 6" bed in a Taco is really damn small. Your head and feet will touch both ends. Your picture looks like a full size chevy with a tall camper shell with a bit more room. Your truck, even without the raised bed will be like sleeping in a coffin. I wouldn't recommend a raised bed, but wheel well boxes are pretty easy to build, make 4 of them out of plywood and 1x1 bracing. They're 3 panels (2 sides, 1 lid) and a couple radius cuts over the wells. They don't need to be super strong and reinforced; they're just containers.

If you must have a raised bed platform, don't make it too tall, you may find yourself missing sitting up in bed to drink water.

Whats your budget? What are your goals with this other than the obvious sleeping in it? With any amount of money and time, a lot of things can happen. I would suggest power converter and a couple outlets to plug and charge common things. These are inexpensive and can simply plug into a cigarette 12v power port with no installation. Alternatively, you can find some to install cleanly under the hood, or in the cab. You wouldn't want to park for the night and find your laptop, phone, or whatever else wasn't charging while you were running the engine.

You could also look into a battery bank, charging setup, and a better (or secondary) alternator to power small comforts like lights, fan, and anything else overnight. Smaller batteries may fit under your raised bed, or in the back of the cab. Get creative and find a spot under the hood, or under the bed itself. Be sure and protect the batteries against the elements as well. You'll want deep cycle batteries for the expectation of running them empty.

If you don't mind looking like a weirdo you could put a couple solar panels on the top of it. It may help charge your batteries if you install them.

So, I drill bowling balls. I have two sets of bits. All the way from like 5/16 to 1-1/2. All sizes in between. Today it appears that one of my 31/32 straight shank bits has expanded to 63/64. How do I fix that? I work for a University and have an amazing machinist. How can he fix this?

grind it down 1/64?

people can tell 0.015" diff in a bowling ball?
>>
>>964537
Grind it down or if you really wanted to get crazy I guess you could chuck it up in a lathe and turn it down.
Personally I would just buy a new one from MSc or grainger. They aren't that expensive anon
>>
>>964553

Bowler here. Not really. 1/32" difference is about the limit. Exception being the hole being just _barely_ too small, but even then it's not really going to matter whether you add another 1/64" or 1/32".

In any event, a lathe with a grinding attachment (or even just a simple jig and a bench grinder) could fix it, or rather, fix most of it. You'd still have to re-do the relief angles after it's brought down to size.

I hope you didn't pay more than $50. I don't know how to help you but I will say that you need to be extremely careful when trying to clean the pickups because if the magnets get messed up you're boned.
>>
>>963410
If you got your two cents about you, you can take out the pickups and use a mix of warm soapy water and bleach to whiten them up again. you can also clean off the rusty screws and pickup ferrite with a bit of WD 40 to give it a shine.
The frets are gonna be all green by now so put a bit of WD 40 on soft rag and clean them off.
You should also give the neck a bit of wood oil since its probably dried to hell.
Ideally you would replace the frets on a guitar that was played for more than 2-3 years. Checks the 5way switch, pots an the jack. Give them a cleaning with some contact cleaner. Adjust the intonation is seems someone just got the pegs in a single line. Adjust the truss rod as needed.
Give it a shine with some guitar wax
I do this for a living...

Anyone used a Smart Lock deadbolt in place of a door handle? I'm looking to add some security to my gun room, but I'd like something I can attach with relative ease.

Otherwise I'd just install it as a normal deadbolt.

I have the standard home depot one. Pretty useless without a z wave home automation hub. I control it from an app, but I'd have to use the keypad otherwise. Call me spoiled, but touching the thing defeats the purpose of a smart lock.

Smart locks add convenience, not security. Add more bulk if you want security.

does anyone know if theres a way to mod a ps2 slim without having to take it apart? mods, please keep in mind, im asking IF, not HOW so that makes this a yes or no question and im also not asking for any links, therefore i am within the rules by asking this. the only one(s) you can ban are those who try to post instructions or links to where to find such instructions. again im only asking IF the aforementioned task is at all possible...yes or no. thanks in advance

I found a method in instructables, but since I have never owned a ps, I don't know if it is what you are asking for. It was the first result on a google search. Just trying to help. Would paste the link, but don't know if it is against the rules.

dude, no one's gonna ban anybody for hacking game consoles. the answer to OPs question is yes, you can use a certain game disk and make it crash, then load in some tool to load the game, but this is a pain. a simpler solution is to modify a couple of switches and use a Swap Magic disk. this is a lot easier to do on the Slim than the Full-height.

lads, want to go about building an adjustable bed, found this dude and Id like something similar but without the pin and headrest system hes got (as its bad)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUptqxF4cNQ

Id prefer something electric but Im having difficulty imaging how to get the power along either end on the foot side. For the head rest i could get the power over to either side with a worm gear or something, would there be a more effective way for the foot end

Is there anything i could scavenge for that could be used to raise and lower the head with a worm gear, i dont really have the intellectual resources to build a gear casing

maybe running everything down the middle would be best, but id imagine id need more power that way.

here are the worm gear mechanisms that id put on either side of the head side, i could just flip it sideways for the foot end though couldnt it

So I'm doing a bathroom remodel, and have run into a snag with the wiring (shitty diagram very related).

Switch 2 must be GFCI protected as it is an exhaust fan and light directly over the shower. Switch 1 does not need such protection.

The problem arises when I turn on the switch for the fan, the GFCI trips.

Other info that may be related:

This particular circuit also includes my garage.
Line and load sides are not mixed up.
The top middle square of the diagram is the source cable (black is hot, pink is neutral).
I omitted the ground in the diagram as it shouldn't be relevant.
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>964540
GFCI receptacles have two different sets of terminals. One set will be marked line, this is where power from the panel is connected, and other other set is load. The load terminals will protect any outlets downstream that are connected to this.

For anything protected by the GFCI, the neutrals will need to connect to the load neutral terminal. Same as for the hots as well, they need to be connected to the load hot terminal. But in the case of the fan (if it needs to be protected), wire the hot terminal to one of the switch terminals and the other switch terminal to the hot on the fan. The neutral will just be wire directly to the load neutral. If any downstream device does not feed the neutral back through the load terminal on the GFCI, the GFCI will trip.
>>
>>964542

Thanks for the quick reply.

I think that's what my diagram shows. The switch for the fan is fed off the load terminals.
>>
>>964540
Your diagram shows the GFCI is switched off the first switch? That's really all I can think of, otherwise your diagram looks fine to me.
