lads, want to go about building an adjustable bed, found this dude and Id like something similar but without the pin and headrest system hes got (as its bad)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUptqxF4cNQ

Id prefer something electric but Im having difficulty imaging how to get the power along either end on the foot side. For the head rest i could get the power over to either side with a worm gear or something, would there be a more effective way for the foot end

Is there anything i could scavenge for that could be used to raise and lower the head with a worm gear, i dont really have the intellectual resources to build a gear casing

maybe running everything down the middle would be best, but id imagine id need more power that way.

here are the worm gear mechanisms that id put on either side of the head side, i could just flip it sideways for the foot end though couldnt it

what you want is called a 'linear actuator' (at least, in the UWSA). It is a jackscrew powered by an electric motor.

Me being in the US the place I look for them first is surpluscenter.com, but for shipping cost reasons you'd want to find somewhere closer to you.
http://www.surpluscenter.com/Electrical/Linear-Actuators/?page_no=1

I've never used an AC motor one, dunno how you'd control them.
The DC motor ones just need a motor controller that can run a DC motor both directions.
Linear actuators usually move pretty slow; they have lots of power but are NOT fast. A typical speed might be 1.5 ~ 2.5cm per second.

Also when you buy surplus actuators: most have cutoff switches, but some don't,,,, and the ones that do may still not have a built-circuit to cut off the motor. They just have the limit switches on there to hook up. That part you may need to DIY.
