Hi /diy/

I want to do a painting/drawing of pic related.
I only have 'til monday to do so, the problem is I have absolutely no skill in painting/drawing... Any advices to make it look good ?

You're fucked, anon. It's not possible.

Try drawing it. A lot. Then choose the best one, then try to make it better. Choose the best one again. Then keep going, until you find an almost satisfying (but not quite) drawing, and present that to your art teacher.

Conversely you can just pass a Photoshop filter for drawifying it, then trace that shit.

I have a feeling you will ask about the second option.

Not for art class, I'm drawing for the grill I like (we spent hours on that spot in pic related) since I know she loves drawing/painting

Go on please Anon

Hey /DIY/

I'm looking to build an AR-10 as a defensive sporting rifle. By that I mean I'm looking to build an AR-10 that can be used for hunting and range shooting but is able to be carried while camping and used to kill off attacking predators like bears. The thing is I don't know much about firearms and I'm not sure I can afford the trigger I want ( pic related ) if I buy a completed AR-10. Does /DIY/ know anything about building a firearm?

Right now I don't have ANY parts. I do plan on buying vid related and ( same as pic related ) would just like to know how I should go about deciding which parts to buy, etc.

I'd also like some information in regards to what goes into building an AR at each stage of building just to see if building one at home is actually possible in my situation.

If you don't know about shooting, don't get too geared out. You can replace the trigger later. Perfectly normal parts can get you to 200-300 yards with a 308

Also, full sized cartridges aren't that fun to plink with or train with, so I'd say get an ar-15 and git Gud with that first.

I'm newb too but am stuck having to buy an ar-10 right away because California is trying to make everything illegal.

Crooked mill anon here again. Last time I couldn't get a part centered for the life of me and found out that loose gibs were throwing the head out of alignment and the table had a slope.

Well I took out all the play and found that the head still has minor alignment issues that throw holes off by a couple of thou when I feed the quill over a couple of inches.

Well the holes I plan on drilling are very short and minor angles won't have an effect on them, but they must be centered.

After some research this is the best and easiest solution I could find anywhere, a centering camera.

To make one I bought a cheap webcam to sacrifice for $10.

This particular camera has a resolution of 1024x768 and a very narrow FOV which makes it almost impossible to use as an actual webcam.

The wire that comes attached is a stiff positionable cable which I promptly replaced with a thinner more flexible one.

I milled out a piece of scrap plastic and drilled a hole to press in a shaft. The mill is still crooked so everything on this block is crooked, but it doesn't matter as long as the camera is looking close to center and you use a short fixed focal length.

To calibrate the camera I first pecked a small hole with a center drill on a piece of scrap.

The camera shaft fits into the same collet as the drill.

You know wind turbines can only ever be 50% efficient because they have to move air out of the way once its passed the blades.
It stands to reason that a fan should then be 150% efficient so I'd say its probably not going to get much better than that

I liked him when he did a blind dove tail.

Way more often than not he's just talking bullshit about other people's technique while not being that far above them. His presentation certainly isn't there.

I thought I'd like him and subbed after the dovetail and stone sink, but every video since then hasn't been worth watching.

you can buy a fogger on ebay or aliexpress. and an LED light for like 50$ or use fluorescents.
you can line an old cupboard with alfoil and seal in the light gaps with door edge insulation foam strips.

Hi /diy/
Does anyone knows how to change the chuck of a Makita Cordless Drill? After 3 years the drill bits slip no matter how hard I tight them... So it's time to change the chuck but no idea and I don't want to break any gear trying it in the wrong way. Can you please help? The model is BHP541

its right there on the blowup number 9
open the chuck all the way up and remove the screw inside
>>
>>969012
LOL I didn't saw it... I'm going to try this afternoon... Is it possible to use another chuck or must be original?
>>
Keep in mind that the screw is very soft and easy to strip, be careful with it.
It's also reverse threaded, righty tighty doesn't apply here.

I also like to dab a bit of blue locktite on it.
If your drill doesn't have a locking feature, you might have to apply the Allen Key and Hammer method to get the chuck off.

Hello /diy/,
I want to repair my old desk plate. Despite, it's not a high quality desk, it was a long time companion and never disappointed me.
I think the plate is made of pressboard.

1) I plan to sand the surface with fine paper to get rid of the filth and the paint.
2) I want to fill the scratches and holes with putty.
3) I want to paint the plate in blue with acrylic lacquer. Is there a paint, which is better fitting for this work?
4) I want to instal a metallic edge protection over the broken one. I prefer a metallic one for asthetics, but I don't think there is one flexible enough to fit the shape. Do you have any suggestions?

It's the first time I try something like this.
I'm thankful for every help given.

Hello people from /diy/

I'm in mission from /x/

We found a patent for a mind control machine

http://www.google.com/patents/US6506148

And I'm going around asking if it could work.

The inventor have some other patents.

And if you have time check this hyperspace energy generator.
>>
>>968952

this is probably bait, but there's no science behind mind control, and that basically means the patents are probably bullshit, akin to Rife machines or perpetual motion generators.

>>968954

>This invention is a braided gold wire coaxial cable of micron size which generates hyperspace energy by coupling to the tetrahedral geometry of subspace, dimension and the Planck mass.

I'm not a theoretical physicist, but the a device that can pull "hyperspace energy" out of "subspace" will inevitably fall into one of two categories, impossible to make/use or fucking useless.

People have been patenting impossible machines for as long as patents have existed, as a form of intellectual property. Just because someone dreamed it up, wrapped a piece of wood with copper wire and called it a "hyperspace energy generator" doesn't mean it fucking works.

So they're both horseshit. But that's just my opinion.

Why the fuck would /diy/ know? We're brutes that "fix" things with liberal amounts of duct tape, not /sci/entists.

Hey guys, my grandma died recently, and she was a damn-fine DIY-er. She left me the contents of her shop, but since I'm in college I couldn't take the big stuff like table saws and whatnot. I got a bunch of woodworking hand tools though. I want to make medieval style carvings and stuff, but the 2x4s I had laying around were too hard and I was afraid I might damage the tools (since I was having to hammer gouged in even though they were only at like a 10 degree angle).

Does anyone know what kind of wood is good for carving? I'm also tempted to go hack down a tree with the hatchet she gave me and do it entirely from scratch. I live in Florida; are there any good native woods?

Skål!

Basswood is one of the common ones afaik. At woodcraft they leave the hunks of it by all the carving tools.

Your chisels are probably dull. You shouldn't have trouble cutting into anything softer than ebony with even a basic chisel.

If the chisel does not have a metal cap on the end of its handle do NOT hit it with anything but your hand or a special hammer (traditionally wooden or leather, modern rubber or plastic). Many carving chisels are not meant to be stuck and you will fuck them up if you do. If the chisels have long handles then they are likely lathe chisels and not meant for carving. Paring chisels are meant to be struck but they aren't made for decorative carving so they wont really help you. Pictures would really help. Like a ton. Post some.
>>

I will tomorrow, if the thread is still here in the morning. I'm used to slow boards like /tg/ and /his/ so hopefully it'll be here. And yeah. I did fuck them up though; I spent probably 4 hours hammering pretty hard into what I can only assume is cedar or pine (2x4's) to make my mom a tray. Luckily I have a whetstone and I only used the wide-angle (easy-to-sharpen) gouges and chisels just in case. I did fuck one up really badly as I hammered it into a screw I didn't know was in the wood, so it's dulled/serrated now. None of them have ironshod butts.

So we got a new fridge a while ago and we got a compression nut with the thing you put inside of the tube to connect the water supply to the fridge.

Well it looks like the water line tube doesn't fit into the compression nut? Is there a way to make the nut biggger? Both the fridge and the nut are supposed to be 1/4" in size so does this mean that the water line is too big for the fridge? Do we have to replace the water line entirely?
