I'm not sure if this should be on /diy/ or /ck/, but I need help making some fake bones; enough to produce a rough approximation of a human skeleton.
Back story: my brother and I do Sunday night dinner together most weeks as a way to keep up with each other. We alternate turns cooking each week. Over a couple of years, we've both developed some decent cooking and presentation skilz, and have tried to out do each other several times. Easter is going to be my next turn.
Suffice it to say, neither of us are religious people. Even still, I'm planning a religious themed easter dinner. Basically, I want to build a human corpse to represent jesus, and then the different courses would be served from the corpse directly. For example, I want to cut the head open with a dremel (largely for show, not much real cutting) and remove the 'brain' to serve as a pate and crackers course. I want to slice in to the abdomen (and a plastic bag concealed within) and scoop out the contents to serve as a Ramen with mixed vegetable course. Etc...
Anyway, I have this recipe for 'fauxtex' which will make plenty of fake skin to cover the corpse with. I really just need an easy and cheap way to make the skeleton. I don't even need a whole skeleton; I'm thinking just a long spine section, the rib cage, and the pelvis. The serving area is only so big. I already have a plastic skull that I can make the head out of.
I guess my real question is how can I make the rib cage and pelvis? It has to be accuratly shaped enough so that when you drape the fake skin over it, the final appearence is real enough. Can I make some plaster of Paris casts for the ribs? Can I use animal bones avaliable at the butcher? Can I do a little of both and fuse them together somehow? I looked up plastic skeletons that I could disassemble, but the cheapest one that looked like it would do the job was $100 and out of stock. I tried party city, but they don't have anything Halloween at this time of year.

Wet some pasta and let it dry out. If you want, get a balloon mold of sorts and wrap the pasta around it so the ribcage sits nice and evenly. You might need to make a frame for the pelvis(with pasta of course) and drape large areas with pasta sheets. If you're serving them with something wet, you can try putting foil or cling film as a layer between the food and the bones, or wrap the bones themselves.

Saw a thread about 6 months back where somebody went into details about setting up battery powered routers in public places that connected users to nearby free wifi and uploaded any data that passed through them to a google drive or something similar.
The routers just acted as a middle man between the users and the free wifi so neither side would know anything was wrong. It looked like an expensive hobby since each one of these devices was made to be disposable (an abandoned backpack filled with wires would obviously get a lot of attention once it was found) but it seemed like an effective way of mining data without too much risk as long as it was done properly and it also seems like a good electronics/security project.
It's similar to a device called an "F-Bomb" that uses a Pogoplug to upload the data and is much more compact but this seems kind of like cheating to me and I can't find a cheap supply of Pogoplugs to teardown for parts. A way to make it with a Rasberry Pie as the base would be great but this doesn't seem feasable based on what I've heard.
I don't expect anybody saved the thread, but does anybody know of anything similar or places online where this sort of thing can be discussed without being frowned upon?
Also, does anybody know how to defend against something like this? End to end encryption is an obvious start but does this totally beat this or is more protection necessary?

I'm trying to replace the bearings in my Mavic hub. These bad boys (pic) are going to set me back about $20-30 since they're such a specific product, but I have a feeling they're identical to a generic 6001 bearing cartridge. Measurements for both are 12x28x8. Am I failing to account for something here?

Bearing sizes are standardized. If they're specified to be the same, they're the same.
The only differences are in the materials and tolerances (which directly translates to quality). Truth be told, I can't see much advantage over a generic in this situation. Bicycle bearings are neither under particularly high load nor do they have to spin at very high speeds. I can't imagine there's any noticeable difference between some random, no-name Chinese shit and some >$9000 ABEC-69 wank fodder. The latter might last longer, I guess, but other than that...

Hard to say. LOT of variables there.
If you can find tech specs for them (manufacturers and suppliers list them up front, but some bike shop almost certainly won't), compare the dynamic and static load ratings. If they're similar, I would expect them to have similar longevity; load ratings are tied directly to tolerance and the quality of metallurgy.
If I had to hazard a guess, though, I'd say "probably".
Unless you're a fatass riding with no suspension on a rocky trail, anyway.

I come to beseech the gods of /diy/ for help.
Years ago I saw something online, a method of denting the pickets of metal fences in a pattern that made text, so that it was visible when viewed at an angle but just looked like a normal fence when viewed head-on. I have a real estate project it would be perfect for, but I need an example to show the owners. Google and Pinterest have fallen through. /diy/ is my best idea, I would appreciate any leads or advice if any of you happen to know where I could find a couple of snapshots, or better yet, a service that does this kind of fencing.
In tribute, I'll be dumping some random cool art/gadgets/projects.
Help me, /diy/, you're my only hope.

I was at goodwill with my wife today and couldn't keep my eyes off this crazy looking desk thing. I did some google-fu and found out that it's a secretary cabinet, almost definitely asian. My question for you guys is two-fold, I guess.
How do I know if this is a legit antique piece and not something some guy threw together in his garage?
Do I want to try to do some light restoration work (staining and fixing the hinges/hardware) or will that destroy any value it has? I know somebody put new screws in the pull down door hinge.

Here's an interior shot with the front opened up. The majority of the hardware looks like a metal 'Y', where the bottom of the 'Y' is where the handle or knob would be and it spreads out and holds it in place. Reminds me of the fastening mech on a manilla envelope. I've never seen something that didn't utilize bolts so I'm fairly confident it's old.

sup /diy/ maybe you can help me solve this. my truck is broke down out of town and I've got a friend with a trailer who thinks we can go get it but the problem is that the truck (A) doesn't run, so I'm not sure how to get it onto trailer (B) as it doesn't have a winch to pull it on with. I'm not certain what kind of trailer we're dealing with exactly, but I hope to find out and update this post. I would assume that the trailer has ramps since it is for hauling cars, but the problem is still how to maneuver the truck onto the trailer. I thought about taking the trailer off of truck (C) and using tow straps to pull it up onto the trailer, then reconnect truck (C) to trailer (B). I am told that this is not an option. The trailer must be connected to truck (C) the whole time.
Truck (A) is a full size, extended cab 4x4 so it's not exactly light. It took 3 guys to push it across the parking lot (though we probably could've done it with just 2). Any suggestions?

How to get ridiculously razor sharp knives in no time:
Step one: Cut out 8" rounds out of MDF. I used a Jasper circle cutting jig, then drilled out the center hole with a 5/8" forstner bit. Use the appropriate sized bit for the arbor size of your grinder ofc. The Jasper jig makes flawless circles which will reduce the need for additional truing. I splashed boiled linseed oil on the disks, which probably isn't necessary.

Then you mount the wheel in the bench grinder. True the wheel by using a spindle gouge while it's spinning on the grinder.
I left this wheel square for general honing of knives and chisels.

I turned a radius onto the second wheel to sharpen inside curved knives and the inside of gouges and other oddly sharped cutting tools.
That's really all there is to it.

My house was recently built/reformed. It received lots of Ethernet cables (inside the walls), but only one is working! I suspect the man hired to make this cable management did not finished its work. How can I discover what is the problem, and solve (end the work)?
I tested by plugging one side on a router (I tried 2 routers), and the other on my netbook, and then proceeded to pinging Google.
