How do I get started on building a paintball tank? Are there any guides to what I'm trying to do?
I'm thinking of something like strapping an engine to a shopping cart or something
>>968652
I'd base it off a go-kart or a custom built frame.
Depending on how heavy it is i think any standard 50cc scooter engine will do.
For the hull make a rectangular frame and put sheet metal around it.
Pretty much to the same for the turret, just leave a hole to put the marker in.
Similar to this, only smaller.

If you live up north. You can find snow mobiles for cheap. And make sorta a half track. Replace the sleds with wheels. And just cover the thing in like 3/32" thick steel plate.
Hey guys, I have a bit of tech project I am having trouble. I am trying to make Windows multi-boot configuration but it seems to fail. I want fast boot so I have to use UEFI, but Vista seems unable to work with UEFI. I checked online, Vista64 can use UEFI. Trouble is, I manage to boot Vista in UEFI mode but freezes at "Windows is loading files". Google only tells me it's the HDD, but I verified it works. I suspect it might a Graphics driver issue since the image fragments and I can see the loading bar at the top of the screen but " Windows is loading files" persists. My plan was this:
(Not sure yet) Windows XP Pro or Win2K - 40GB
Windows Vista - 40GB
Windows 7 - 60GB
Windows 8 - 100GB
Windows Server 2012 - 100GB
Windows 10 Enterprise - 700GB

Go back to /g/. If you weren't retarded you'd know they have sqt for this kind of questions.
btw what's the point of having all these OSes? Why not boot one and set up multiple VMs.
>>968574
Super slow, reason I am so interested in Vista is becuase it's the best /comfy/ and aesthetically pleasing OS hands down. In a VM, Aero graphics don't work.
if i remember, getting the older OS'es to ply with the newer ones is a challenge, so i gave up and installed 2 diff HDDs, one for XP and Vista, and a second for Win 7 and 8.
in the BIOS, i can select which SATA HDDs are on or off, so if i wanna switch from the old to the new sets, i just reboot, and disable/enable the appropriate drive. some BIOSes let you change the boot order, so you dont have to disable anything, but mine only boots from lowest available SATA.

Straight to the point, gonna build a lowdraft jetboat for cleaning up about 2 miles of creek.
working on designing the engines "jet part" not too much online information on how exactly the "jet part" part of the engine works. Been looking a lot of RC related jet boat posting, seems like a lot of the math and testing has already been done for rpm to prop pitch to intake to nozzle sizes. so mainly working off that.
Anyone here have any sort of experience just working one these things?
I have everything else I need design wise, but this whole jet thing, and not that I suspect it to be cheap, but a used jet cost so much freaking money I haven't been able to find one for cheap enough. plus since the boats being built from scratch anyway I figured I could also make the jet part from scratch just gotta get the numbers correct. also some way to get a reverse.. I'd assume it sorta works like reverse thrust like on some jet aircraft.

The creeks got lots of fallen trees in it, that sit just below the water, we've tried to take a regular john boat with an outboard out to clean it, but some spots are really bad, and require you to go over the trees first before you should cut them, because we're using the boats + electric winches to drag the logs to the banks, otherwise they'd fall to the bottom, and eventually get floated/pushed to the next low part or choke point of the creek and get super stuck, we've already removed ones like this and it was a huge PITA because they get stuck under live roots and cypress knees underwater and all this junk.. its easier to pull them out of the way and push them up onto the banks now while we're cutting vs leaving them at the bottom and making them a bigger issue.
we don't need them super clean either, just enough so a john boat with an outboard can safely travel up and down it. nothing sucks more then breaking your prop on a hidden 800lb log under water...
>>968278
And here's an example sorta what I'm talking about. since we use the boats for moving the logs around, you can see how getting over the log first benefits one.
A: no bend to pull the log through.
B: once over, you have a straight away to pull the log up
C: can use a combination of the flow, and a pulley off the bank, with a winch rope pulling it towards the bank, and the flow keeping it from anchoring it to the bottom.
the absolute madman
I've recently acquired some land and it's got a lot of shit on it, among that shit is a 20ish by 30ish slab. Slab is about 40 years old and the original house burnt like 20 years ago. Over the width of the slab I've measured a 3.5 inch slope and it's got a few cracks here and there. Would it be easier to lay new slab on top to build a house on or to build a cinder block crawl space with a subfloor?
Going to be building a little 16x16 2 story cabin
Pic is a trailer right next to the slab that mysteriously caught fire
>>968199
Existing slab sounds fucked. How deep do you have to go down in that area? Like, cause of frost heave and shit.
>>968199
yeah what country are you even in? canada holds many frost problems and you would not want to build on an old burnt foundation as the age and heat will have caused a few problems

"patio cloth" $40-$50
canvas or sail cloth.
>>968022
Pallet wood shipping container meme cloth.
Hey, I can't think of any way of getting this hotter without blowing circuit breakers...
I have 20A breakers and I am running 15 amps continuous. I don't have a heat gun so I haven't figured out a way to find out how hot this gets...
I'm just a little unsure how to get higher temps out of this.
Need to know more than that... what kind of heating element are you using?
>>968038
I just wrapped some kenthal wire and made a spring looking deal. It is 24 gauge runs about 1 ohm per linear foot, so I did about 9 foot worth to get about 15 amps in theory, it is probably less though with heating up and all the other factors
Hot enough to melt aluminum, but it takes forever to get there.
PVC pipes gets brittle and breaks easily over time, I think because UV rays break it down right? Would spraying a thick coat of paint or something prevent that from happening? I know they are pressure rated, but I don't want that shit exploding into a million jagged pieces.
>>968009
They are not made for use outdoors where they will get exposed to sunlight. Unless you plan on painting your pipes every few years just use solid ABS pipe for the outdoor portion.
>>968009
PVC is inherently brittle. When it explodes it turns into shrapnel, there is no way around this.
>>968009
A thick paint of paint will stop UV degradation but will not stop the stuff that makes PVC soft and not shatter from diffusing away.
I have been thinking about doing this.
Would it be a cool project?

>>967930
Technically it is a computer, but, it requires a lot of modding.
Halp /diy/. I was trying to install new door casings and while driving a nail in to the first plinth, it split in half about a 1/4" from where the nail was. Did I do something wrong? Are the nails too thick? Is it just because they're cheap and made of pine?
>>967688
I had sanded down the area where caulk and paint had built up over the old casings, and repaired the area with spackle and sanded it flat.
>>967690
Pretty normal. The old trick is to predrill a pilot hole or tap the point of a nail with a hammer to blunt it slightly.
When you hammer a sharp pointed nail into wood it forces the fibres apart causing it to split. blunting the nail causes it to break the fibres as it goes in.
I prefer predrilling myself as it gurantees no splitting.
Sup /diy/?
>What is /diy/ up to this weekend?
>What are you making, what are you prepping for?
For me, my list is as follows:
Just got the Sherwin Williams whiteboard kit. Im going to take my main office wall and turn it into a whiteboard. Since SW paint for this is clear, I have to paint it white before hand. Idea Paint is $200 a quart, this is $50 a quart. Given I need to prepaint the wall, im in this for $80.
I'm also going to seed start this weekend for my first garden. Next weekend I build all of the boxes. But I'll have a thread for that next weekend.
>pic related, first coat
Uhh, how much is a standard whiteboard? What do you need a whiteboard that size for in what I'm assuming is your home?
And why is it so expensive?
Starting a bathroom remodel soon, can't commit myself to starting the teardown, as I have no experience in tiling. Is this something I can pick up on quickly? I'm tiling the floor and shower, and removing tile from walls to paint. Will probably do a 4 inch tile border around base. Which do I need to do first, shower tile or floor?
What do I use as a border for the shower tile?
Is there a certain paint I need to use in wet areas?
How likely is it that I can tear the old tile off the wall, sand then paint? Or will I need to replace drywall or whatever it is?
>>967683
Ohh fuck, I thought this was QTDDTOT. Well, if anyone has answers, I'd appreciate it. Otherwise I'll fuck off. My bad OP.
>>967683
>>967683
No prob. I do accounting for a living, and I am considering grad school or going to for the CPA for my 2nd time. Whatever path I go, I need the whiteboard for notes. I used to take painters tape and tape notes to my walls in school to help study. This is to visually layout chunks of info. The fine detials cant fit on the board, but at least I can draw out some rules and regs to understand it easier.
So /diy/, I'm working on some old gun stuff and I want to try and touch up the metal on it and try and make it somewhat pretty. I have a variety of tools at my disposal, namely a beefy dremel that I am currently intending to do most of this with.
How would /diy/ go about making old steel pretty again? So far I've tried steel brush (For removing 60 years of rust+grease off the top) -> Aluminum Oxide grinding wheel (To smooth out deep scratches) -> Felt wheel + red polishing compound and the end result was pic related. Not really sure what I can expect or how I can improve though, aside from picking up a dremel polishing kit tomorrow so I've got more polishing compounds than just the red kind
Pic isn't of the important bits itself, it's essentially a trash piece I had to cut an important one out of so I'm using it for practice
Same way you polish anything. Start at low grit, work your way up, making sure to completely eliminate all the scarthces from the grit below. For steel 200-800, followed by a buffing wheel with compound, will give you a mirror shine. Expect to spend many hours. There are no shortcuts.
>>967685
This may be a shock, but I've never properly polished anything before so this is new to me. I will take what you said in mind, but I at least have some leeway as I'm not exactly going for a mirror finish, rather try and take care of scratches/pitting before parkerizing or blueing the steel
what kind of old gun stuff?
if it is of any value, you never want to change the finish
How can I make my door more sound proof without replacing it? Its made of wood
I share a hall way with some chinese and and they fucking drink and gamble in the hallway all fucking night long. They are pretty loud when they are drunk, I can easily hear it over my tv and in my bedroom.
Any ideas?
