What is /biz/'s opinion on Software Piracy?

Is it inherently harmful and best to be banned or is it just and natural?

In a perfect world piracy wouldn't exist.

With that being said, piracy has changed certain aspects of media for the better on both the producer side and the consumer side.

Piracy has a large part in pressuring companies to offer more convenient ways of purchasing/using media. Also, It's not that uncommon for consumers who pirated a movie or a game to end up buying the product later.
>>
>>1046964
It's to be expected and should be banned.

If someone uses your software without a license that's unfortunate, but no big deal.
But if someone distributes it without your permission it's a real problem.
Then you have to compete against your own product, that you worked on for months or years, because some nerd wants some e-credit.

It's even worse with websites that get copied to extort website owners or steal someone elses ad money.

With products that have been available in the past, but aren't available to the public anymore, like with old music, old games, old videos and so on, then I have no real problems with it. Because nobody is really losing any money as the distributor stopped exploiting the product.
>>
>>1046988
Perhaps they want to make money off the product in the future again. But I think it might be in the public interest to preserve the product. If you want to re-release it then you can just make a new adaptation.

Not exactly. If you're looking to invest, I would just DCA when the S&P falls below 1500. It's too difficult to time the market when the fed is still pushing QE and engaging in stock manipulation. The problem is that stocks might not decline below 1500 for a year or even two years from now. It could even be a decade from now.

What does /biz/ think about the importance of IQ in financial success? I have an iq of 131. (according to the test administer that could be an underestimation tho). Assuming I put in the effort, how far do you think I could go?
61 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
On the balance of probabilities, it isn't very important.

The surest ways to financial success are,

1. Earning more than you spend
2. Investing savings sensibly.

Number 2 doesn't require that much intelligence.
As for number 1...spending less doesn't require that much intelligence...earning more is where intelligence can come in to it...but even that doesn't correlate very well.

IQ is a meme.

I don't think it's all that important. IQ of 143 here. I can learn things pretty fast I guess, if I commit to it which is often not the case.

I think other factors are more important, and furthermore, that intelligence as a whole encompasses more than what the Intelligence Quotient can reasonably measure.

Why do people say that government spending has a multiplier effect without also mentioning the fact that the money was also there to be spent by the private sector if it hadn't initially been taken as tax by the government? Why don't they talk about a multiplier effect when it's a private individual / company spending the money?

because keynesians
>>
>>1049507
Because you're an idiot.
The multiplier effect is supposed to be produced by huge government spending during a recession, when the private sector fails to provide such spending.
On the other hand, when the economy is growing, moderate taxation is made to build up the budget, to fight against later recessions.

Many free market supporters need to cease jumping to conclusions about the neo-Keynesian theory without understanding it first. They're acting just like creationists in regards to the theory of evolution.
>>
>>1049507
Because companies sometimes have more money than they know what to do with, resulting in stagnation throughout the economy.

See Apple's $200 billion cash reserves.

Good. Maybe the engineers I hire in the future won't graduate as social retards that wander in circles mumbling when asked to work in a group.

protip: if you graduate with an engineering degree, and can actually write a coherent and grammatically correct letter, you will be running a division of your company before age 30

Can somebody explain the United States debt to china to me? Did they basically just buy bonds or did we literally burrow money from them?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
tel me!!!!
>>
>>1048020

Tell literally just buy our T-Bills and bonds when they're auctioned off.

The US didn't go to them for a loan like you would go for a home mortgage.
>>
>>1048020
When China exports shit to us, we pay with dollars. The Chinese central bank gives RMB to the ChinaCo and keeps the dollars. The Chinese central bank buys bonds with those dollars. Then the govt uses those dollars for welfare or paying employees or whatever. Then the poor people/govt employees buy Chinese shit with the dollars...

Note that roughly the same dollars circulate and the only net effect is an accumulation of bonds for the Chinese CB and an accumulation of debt for US govt.
