Hi /biz/, is studying architecture worth it?
>will I find work
>how much money can I expect to make in the EU (compared to an engineer)
Atm I'm in my first semester of mechanical engineering but I find myself being unsure if I can finish it with acceptable grades, also architecture interests me a bit more.
Don't make this type of inquiry. It'll only disappoint you. All anyones says is how hard/impossible their field is, and it's all bullshit. Yes, you need to work hard, but if you put in the hours and have any semblance of talent (and no major mental/physical disability preventing you from succeeding in said field), you will make it. You can be whatever you want to be within reason.
If you're going to be doing what you're doing for the next 40 years, you might as well be passionate about it.
>>1046669
I'm just scared of failing my engineering degree, despite actually being passionate for the field... thanks for your input though
>>1046673
You're not going to fail if you put in the work. Millions of people have done this before you. Do you really think they are superior to you? Be proactive. Talk to your professors. Tell them about shortcomings/what you're struggling with, and let them know that you want to be as good as possible. If you are proactive with a professor, you really can't fail.
I have been posting here off and on for the last couple months. Roughly 6-8.
Long story short.
Have access to a couple factory price items due to wife's family owning 50% of the factory in China.
The main 2 items are,
A composite wood decking
Circular formwork for columns
The decking is very very high quality and the formwork is very cheap compared to other models on the market.
Both factories turnover roughly $20-30 million a month.
They have not targeted Australia due to small market which is where I live. They have allowed my wife and I to be the sole distributors in Australia and sell any items we wish at pretty much price dumping prices.
It will be the absolute cheapest price possible without he factory taking a loss.
Now that is out of the way.I have asked questions here before a lot, the most recent was regarding logistics.
I plan on starting a trading company in 6 months and I would like some advice on how I should really advertise.
How the hell do I get people to know I even exist? I don't really need to sell the products because once they are informed it's very clear to see ours is very dam cheap.
I am not sure the best way to advertise.
I plan on attending construction expo's with the formwork and composite wood.
Calling companies
Sending brochures
Emails
Free samples
Contacting companies who are building and have notified local councils.
But that's it.
I am sitting on a goldmine but I have a degree in construction, not /biz/.
bumpin
>>1046616
I cant think of a better bet than expos unless you just cold call people , maybe linkdn?
>>1046624
>linkdn
Is this really a way to sell product to companies?
Is Warren Buffet really the nice jolly grandpa that he portrays? Any links or stories of him being his business self?
>>1046496
I heard he refused to pay for his hippy granddaughters art degree.
read the article about LTCM going down by michael lewis, talks a bit about how he got out of solomon brothers because all he cares about is his reputation, for the same reasons he stepped in when LTCM was floundering and looked like a hero but was just making a shit ton of money, did the same thing with GS during the financial crisis. hes a completely ego-driven psychopath just like you'd expect, just really got at hiding it and staying modest. still a genius tho
>>1046496
He's a reptilian.
Why and how did xe ruin Canada? (Economically)
>>1046235
He didn't because none of his retarded policies have been implemented yet.
He's mostly a harmless idiot.
>>1046236
But I was reading a thread on /pol/ where they linked stories of him wasting billions of dollars on random things, and he's only been in office for like a month.
Why does he keep doing that? It seems like he's an infiltrator or something. No one can genuinely think to do some of the stuff I've read he does.
>>1046241
Well it's only beginning in terms of how bad it will get for Canada, but no one government can be blamed for it.
Canada has been getting ruined for at least 30 years, mostly by Liberals. Ontario is the most mis-managed economy in the world.
Sup biz,
I'm tired of the sand forex and robinhood beatoff threads. Let's get a small-biz thread.
I own a coffee/tea/lemonade company in a major metropolitan area. We do the majority of our sales with making dispenser liquid for restaurants, although we now have a line of bottled products that we hope has much more growth potential.
My business is 3 years old since filing, I paid myself $36,000 in 2015.
Any questions that aren't too identifying id love to answer for any people who want to start a food related business. I'd be really interested to see biz users in here from other industries.
I've been wanting to try putting together a soda kiosk at the mall that sells unique custom flavors. I would have one of those carbonation machines and a bunch of syrups to create the sodas with some glasses from alibaba to hold them. My girlfriend is on a ketogenic diet so she cant have sugar, id like to offer several sugar free versions to appeal to niche crowds as well. I would probably have a few Ice creams as well, vanilla in particular to make floats with the sodas.
How viable would a kiosk like this be to turn a profit? Should i sell other food products? Could I bottle the stuff at home with a funnel or are there stricter guidelines to handling to be allowed to sell it? Any input would be great. Ive been wanting to get a kiosk for some time but the price per month is pretty high if its a flop.
I own a gaming console customization start-up!
>>1046223
Well..
Most sodas are dirt fucking cheap. So if it's anything that is hard to find. You could of course sell it for more then your average Coke. I think it sounds pretty awesome if you can get some cool maybe foriegn sodas.
NEW SANCTIONS IMPOSED ON IRAN
OIL SHORTERS GETTING KEKED THIS HARD
>>1046203
Did you even read the articles? It's a minor sanction against individuals and companies responsible for the missile test. The rest of the sanctions are still slated for removal.
The bottom has finally arrived. I'm long.
Does it matter what brand of gold to purchase? I currently own PAMP and Valcambi bullions. Is there any brand that is better to buy than others?
>>1046179
No brand is inherently "better", as long as it's a recognized producer and includes an assay.
If you decide to sell, nobody is going to pay you a premium for a Valcambi bar over an APMEX bar. If they trust the content, they'll pay the same per oz no matter whose name is stamped on the outside.
>>1046179
No because owning physical gold is retarded, and therefore any minutiae associated with the activity are also retarded by proxy.
>>1046232
Why exactly do you find it retarded? Don't you think it is a good security for future? Savings for a dark day
I happen to get 30 empty, premium quality cigar boxes, but I won't make much money from selling them
Thinking about turning them into high quality amps or cigar box guitars for sale.
Got any ideas/advice friends?
>>1046133
I think the amps would sell better than the guitars
But I would do something else altogether, maybe cutting boards, serving platters or a tablet case if the size is right
>>1046138
>serving platters
Thanks mate
>>1046133
Is there a way to warm tortilla chips in them?
/biz/ I need thy advice!
I live in New Zealand and my salary is paid in NZD to my NZ bank account.
I'm moving to Ecuador on behalf of the company and hence my salary payment will continue.
Unfortunately, Ecuador's official currency is USD and the NZD/USD has been dropping for a year and a half and now sits at a very SHIT (for me of course, not so bad for NZ) 0.64:1.
Would be fucking great if Ecuador used a local currency, a peso of some sort, but no so this obviously fucks up my income big time.
I need advice on what actions and precautions I should take to try and minimize my income loss.
What are things I should be thinking about which will affect me?
Lol
Country with entirely different economic circumstances to USA uses USA currency and you make no reference to that particular countries cost of living etc. and make the assumption that dollar for dollar you're worse off no questions asked
Ausfag living in USA paid in Aud - mate, I'm the definition of fucked, you're rolling in cash in Ecuador
>>1045926
Saw a similar article a few weeks ago.
http://www.cnbc.com/2015/02/06/ecuador-becomes-the-first-country-to-roll-out-its-own-digital-durrency.html
Ecuador is dropping the US dollar in favour of a digital currency. Would be prudent to do some research.
>>1045930
If you read the thread fellow Ausfag, I'm asking for advice on how to minimise costs regarding to the actual exchange of my salary, as its something that needs to be done regardless of the circumstances or economic situation in Ecuador.
possibly info on things like...
the buy/sell spread?
frequency of exchange?
economic predictions for USA and implications on USD?
Economic predictions for NZ and implications for NZD?
Futures???
I'm sure people on biz have something to say
Oh man, this fucking thing was unwatchable..
>>1045877
It was produced for the masses. Most of the populace is unaware of basic finances. It provides a "humorous" means for detailing some rather interesting characters.
>>1045877
Unwatchable? I watched the whole thing and laughed my ass off. It was pretty dead on. Coming from a finance guy, although I loved Margin Call too, this movie was even more realistic.
I don't remember people blaming the immigrants and the poor the housing crises
Hi /biz/ !
My first post here. I am fond of long introductions but I will try to make this thread as short as possible.
I want to invest in stocks ( politely asking to step back from advising me to hold back because now is not the right time for longs etc). I am form Eastern Europe and want to buy stocks represented in NYSE and NASDAQ. What is the best electronic platform (without a broker as a mediator) to do that? I want quick orders and an option for short sales (nope, this has nothing to do with the glooming crisis)
What are the basic requirements - where do I have to open account, what money transfer system I have to use?
I am asking this because Google is filled with ads and there is no normal way to filter out best fits for my needs.
I have previously only uses BATS exchange and Howthemarketworks.com platform. Only virtual cash. Sorry
>>1045564
I use my bank, as a broker.
>I don't give a fuck about fees and shit, as long as it is reliable and I have a better insight at were my money is, I am fine with it
>>1045601
Well, I am not a broker.
Also banks in my country do not have very good electronic platforms and require bunch of bureaucratic bullshit in order to use their platform. I am looking for more democratic version.
>>1045564
You can use your own bank
how do I earn 30k in the UK (not living in london)
I don't have a degree relevant to anything that makes money
so what do
>>1045547
If you are female, sell your body.
>>1045547
I make 30k with only GCSEs living in London, but I'm sure it's possible.
You could join the armed forces. Your disposable income will be higher than somebody on 30k+ even at low ranks, providing you're deployed. Volunteer to go abroad.
>>1045555
Do we even have any females on /biz/?
Am i retard that i think i would be less happy winning money than earning like 100x less of time?
Like that guy who won 300 millions , that's like getting cocaine after being used to daily comfortable coffee , it's not going to bring sustainable happiness.
Happy to be middle class?
>>1045458
Doubtful.
You can afford pretty much everything with that money. Must feel amazing to not be limited by money ever again in your life.
When you look for vacations you no longer at the cost, you just choose what sounds best. Instead of playing a shitty used guitar you bought on craigslist you can buy the best equipment. Etc.
>>1045462
Isn't there some kind of joy brought buy researching things for value , communicating with people who have used equipment as compared to just buying studio grade equipment straight to your place?
>>1045468
Maybe a little bit but I reckon it's heavily outweighed by the pros of not being concerned with money ever again.
The difference between:
>Ok well I have $2000... Let's see what kind of vacation this kind of afford me if I filter by <$2000 inclusive resort + planeticket on vacation site...
>I am just going to vacation in wherever I think is best from personal and online reviews, do whatever I want and how ever long I want there AND whenever I want because I do not need to wait for a certain time to save money
That feeling must be fucking amazing. To go onto a car dealership lot and pick your favorite car out of them all instead of saying "O-ok just show me the used ones for under $5000..."
I really wish I can experience the feel some day, but probably not. I am tired of looking at sales for food instead of just buying whatever I want and whenever I want.
>Tfw you only buy the highest value food generally instead of the most delicious
;-;
Hey biz/tards. I've been browsing this board for about two years now and this is my first post. I'm an American with a healthy inheritance and so far I've done pretty well for myself with long term value investing. I'm not overly concerned with recent stock market activities but I anticipated warning signs and pulled out of the market about 80% in mid December. Obviously, I'm trying to catch the falling knife. Throughout the past few years after sifting through the shitposting I've seen some astute observations about economic conditions on this board and I'm curious if anyone has any analysis backed opinions on what the next few months have to offer in the equities economy. Personally, I anticipate no more than a 30% drop in the S&P 500 and once things hit a 20% correction I will start buying back in weekly. I have enough cash to cost average weekly for about 2 months. Does anyone else have a compelling perpective that might dissuade me from this course of action?
>>1045431
I don't, but I'd be interested in hearing why someone else might. I know there are a lot of bears on here, maybe one of them will have something of interest to say.
Do you expect another 20% on top of what's happened since December or 20-30% including the last two months?
I anticipate 20-30% drop in the S&P, but I am positioned to capitalize, based on cash reserves, on up to a 45% drop in the S&P (I'm a conservative investor). That is on top of what has already occurred. I think that most of the commodity devaluation has already been calculated into the market values we are seeing right now. So, I anticipate an minimum
Overall of 20%, a maximum of 30% but based on my understood ignorance I am prepared to benefit from up to a 45% decrease in the economy.
Disclaimer: I won't pretend to be an expert on macro-economic trends, I am a value investor who heavily researches the specific conditions of any company I invest in. I am just trying to accelerate my returns with some macro-economic insight.
Self-bump in hopes that someone has something useful to say
Since the Canadian dollar is straight up free falling, is it a good idea to buy gold? I feel like holding on to my toilet paper currency right now is not very wise.
>>1045114
Yes,
your fiat currency wont be worth shit once the fed does QE4 here
>>1045114
Where do you even buy gold?
>>1045911
Try looking closely at the pic in the OP.
