Should I go into work today guys? My knee feels like its gonna fall out of it's socket and no amount of ice and medication is keeping the pain down every time I move. At the same time I feel really guilty because I have been reliable for every time they call me I come in and work the registers.

What should I do guys? How do I stop feeling guilty for some reason?

What are /biz/'s thoughts on T. Rowe Price mutual funds?

A year or two ago I put $5k in both the New Era (PRNEX) and Health Sciences (PRHSX) funds. Total returns so far are 4.58% but I'd like to be up by at least $1k by the time I cash out (an overall 20% increase, ignoring inflation). For these two funds, how realistic is that for a goal over the next two or three years?

And this may be a very basic question, but how do I know for sure when to sell? In particular I'm interested in PRHSX because apparently it's closed to new investors, so I wouldn't want to sell it all until I was absolutely sure of the gains to be made. Is the decision to sell based on the fund reaching a certain value (sort of like a stop-loss) or do some people sell based on a pattern in the trend for the fund performance?

When I originally put money into these funds, it was on the recommendation of a financial advisor that my parents (recently retired) had been seeing. I was interested in putting my money into energy because of the (at the time) recent drop in the price of oil and health sciences because of the expanding biotech aspect.

Looking at alternatives, it appears that Vanguard has both energy (VGENX) and health (VGHCX) funds as well and they're generally known for having lower fees. I see that the expense ratios are about half of what T. Rowe Price offers (PRNEX at 0.67% versus VGENX at 0.37%, and PRHSX at 0.76% versus VGHCX at 0.36%).

That said, given that the amount of money and percentages involved are small, I'd like to stick to my current funds until such time as I am able to get the money out at the target amount of at least $12k. Is that a reasonable course of action knowing the above?

Looking into the future, I have a fair amount of money in savings at present. Would it make sense to plunk down a large amount (tens of thousands of dollars) on one of the Vanguard 500 index funds, for example, VFIAX? I'm currently on the fence about this since I keep hearing about a possible market correction in the near future and with recent events (Brexit, Turkey, etc.) am worried about possible volatility shortly after investing into such a fund.

I'm a 27 year old Austrian neet and have about 90.000€ saved up.
I don't plan any significant expenses in the near future so I figured I should finally look into how to invest a good portion of it.
Although I have a basic understanding of the matter, I still don't feel comfortable enough to just go ahead and do it on my own.

Maybe you could give me some tips or ideas or recommend/link me some unbiased sources on the matter?

How did you get your current job?

How much did you start making and how much are you making now?

Do you have any tips for people who are currently at the bottom of the ladder? Job hunting tips in particular. I am currently working a minimum wagecuck job, and in the process of finding a higher paying job. Any job hunting tips is appreciated.

Ask your mum or dad to hook you up at their law firm.
>>

>How did you get your current job?
Moved to a suburb of Detroit in 2012. Wifey hooked me up at that place to work in a tiny machine shop. I was a drop out international student because I had addiction issues. I was a button pusher there taking orders from people who didn't even graduate high-school. My wife got fired and decided to just receive her SS check and watch steve wilkos/ maury every morning so I busted my ass learning to use the machines better watching videos on youtube etc. Luckily my dad helped me with a downpayment for a shitty car so atleast that was covered. 2 years after moving up the ladder I applied to a larger machine show where I got an opportunity to go from a CNC machinist to a CNC programmer and my pay increased. They also pay me for schooling so I can atleast have an associate degree.

>How much did you start making and how much are you making now?
$10 in 2012, $19 in 2014 after moving to the new shop. $22.50 in 2016. I still go to school whenever I get a chance and take a course that looks good on my resume.

>Do you have any tips for people who are currently at the bottom of the ladder? Job hunting tips in particular.
Be social. It is better to get a job through work of mouth. Get your foot in the door of a larger company even if the pay is stupid. Being a laborer in shipping/receiving, an office boy etc etc. Serve them, don't show an attitude. It is expected that you won't be treated with the most respect. Be consistent, don't miss days of work, be on time etc etc. Show a CONSISTENT desire to work your way up. Management always notices that. Try to stay away from fast food jobs. Whatever the sign says, it is not a fucking career. If you're black, don't have a name like Jamal or Devante.

Got my job because the first person they hired was a shit and got fired, so they hired me after I said I was still interested.

Started at 16.65 hourly, two years later now make about 17.00 hourly.

Best advice I can give is... don't work for the USPS. They are shifting to a temp workforce because full-timers are too expensive, and the unions are helping this process greatly by negotiating for the interests of full-timers and letting management do whatever the fuck they want to part-time workers (even new full-timers get shit on to be honest; the union agreed to a two-tier wage system in 2012 and now everyone like me makes 30% less than the old bastards who signed up before that date, and there is absolutely no indication that this will change for the better).

I actually work more hours than any of the regular staff at my office, managers and supervisors included. I work Sundays, federal holidays, and do clerk work when our clerks are sick or on vacation (a big no-no if anyone cared to report it, which they do not). I've nearly been killed or injured several times delivering packages on icy roads late at night on Christmas season. I've been underpaid for days I worked and my pay check is consistently late with no explanation. I've worked hundreds of unpaid hours because of the way our pay structure works (piece work system insures our pay is the same no matter how long it takes to finish our deliveries, unless we go into overtime, which no longer happens).

Sorry if this sounds like blogshit but I'm giving you my personal experience so you don't make the same mistake I did... bottom line is don't go into a union gig without asking how the union treats new guys. If they treat them all like shit then odds are the field isn't one you really want to be in anyway.

ITT: We share financial secrets that we know off, that enables us to gain an advantage over that particular field.

I recently saw a couple of threads on /biz/ regarding gambling, and since I've been playing poker for quite a while, (but no longer do because I'm now back in Ethiopia after 4 years in the UK for educational purposes) I thought I'd share a few tips that I've gathered along the way.

You might ask why I'm being generous enough so as to share a "secret", (which surprisingly isn't common knowledge amongst gamblers) such as the one I'm about to write down and create unnecessary competition for myself, but like I've said in the preceding paragraph, I'm no back in my native country and unfortunately, my winning days are now over because the internet here is expensive, to say the least; and even if it was affordable, there's no way for me to resume my winning streak because the country doesn't have online banking nor does it have foreign currency for me to play with. #forcedtobenocoiner

Most people involve themselves in gambling without prior knowledge or understanding of how things actually work, same goes for forex, which I think that no one ought to dabble in unless they've got a degree which gives them an edge, (preferably in Finance or Economics) and/or have a mentor that helps them take their first steps without them breaking any of their bones in the process.

As you may or may not know, the primary form of income for internet poker sites, such as Donkeystars; FullFraud; etc... is RAKE. That is also the poker player's greatest ennemy since it has the ability to bankrupt anyone who doesn't properly engage it.
If, for argument sakes', I were to play NL Hold'em in ring games on any one of those sites, taking great precaution to minimize my risks and making use of any of the well known methods to gain an advantage, (bankroll management; utilizing poker softwares; tracking and keeping notes on other players; fish-baiting; scrupulously picking my tables; etc...) I would still end up loosing in the long run.
Why? Because as magic puts it, "once you're rigged to lose, you're rigged to fucking lose". Donkeystars or any other poker site is flawed despite what others' might think. But, if you choose not to delude yourself and decide to accept this fact and confront it, there is a way around it.
>>
>>1386908
See, unlike ring games whose rake is taken every single pot, STGs or Sit N' Go games, (nb: STGs and tournaments are two different games which require different strategies) are raked only once at the beginning of the game. So if I were to play STGs and only STGs, I might end up winning in the long run. Like I said before, ring games are taxed accordingly every hand, so the greater the pot, the greater the rake, the greater the profit for poker sites. Do the math. Players often find themselves being set up by the sites in order to tempt them to invest the maximum in a pot only to lose in a hand whose percentage of them winning was 99.99% up until the river... of course, haha! But... STGs are different, the rake is collected only once so how big the pot is, or who wins really doesn't make no difference whatsover to the site, so it's unlikely that they involve themselves as they do with ring games. There's also countless other advantages to playing STGs only which I won't get into because that would require me to write a book or at least a pamphlet about it. It's possible to minimize the risk to such extent that "luck" is out of the game altogether.

Thanks! And, I'm eager to read what some of you might have in mind that could possibly help me prevail here in Ethiopia, most of what you initially propose won't apply because Ethiopia is far behind, both technologically and economically, that and the gov' has monopolized many sectors so it's near impossible to enter the field. Think 10-20 years behind, lag yourself a little and give me ideas which you'd think off if you were at the advent of the internet, the stock market, commodity trading, etc... Most people are wagecuck here in Addis, but I want to make it, /biz/ and I trust that you've got the answer for my problems.
Also, general 3rd world /biz/ ideas.

>Tl;dr... This is a thread for intellectuals, GTFO with your shitposting.

Nah for real, come up with an app idea that breaks rules, does something nobody would have expected

Facebook, Snapchat, Netflix all did this

Research a particular industry extensively.
>food
>online shopping
>film
>gaming
>books

A good model at the moment is renting instead of buying
particularly in industries with a high amount of products/content being produced

Netflix and Spotify are great examples of these
Instead of having to buy the products, pay a set amount each month and retain the right to choose whatever you like when you like

They only recruit interns from 'target' Universities.

There are 5 in the UK, Ivy League in the USA and a bunch of European/East Asian ones - depends where you're from.

If you don't go to these, you will, with a very high probability, never have a successful application and must find an alternative route.

OP, either have amazing extra curricular or fuck off. No IB will take you in, they are hellbent on prestige.

I didn't go to an ivy league, but, my brother did and he works at one of OP image. He said out of his batch of 20 interns there are 2 that went to a non ivy league, both of them are in markets (trading for you noobs). I suspect the reason is markets are purely perfomance based so they probably had some prior experience to investing or trading with good records so the bank saw that they are trainable. All the other sides of the bank like M&A etc are filled with ivy leagues for multiple reasons.

Prestige
Tend to be smarter
Tend to be more hardworking
Tend to have more connections which gets them through the door
Banks have a strong connection to top tier schools
They tend to be more active in extra curricular. IB's like winners, if you are the national champion or state champion for something they will take you in.

>>1386801
>>1386801
You wouldn't want to work in IB anyway, if they don't take you in you should move along. At a graduate level they work every 2nd weekend while staying at the office till early hours in the morning (source: my brother would work during holiday weekends).

How much do you think you owe your parents?
I think my parents were fundamentally flawed human beings who tried their best to raise a good child, and they did okayish job.

I'm not sure that someone as dumb as me will ever be able to get a job that can pay my parents back for all the time and money they spent on me, but I won't let those dummies rot in a fucking retirement home. They might be idiots, but they're my idiots, to the end, and I'll let them hang in my house/apartment/whereever I end up living, unless I actually get wife, inwhich case, I might kick them out to a shack in the backyard, with some basic bitch living essentials like a good bed and healthy enough food, while I hang around the house fucking around with my waifu.
If the relationship with this woman escalates beyond the sexual to an actual family relationship, then they can come back into the house since it will probably be less weird to have the parents infront of my wife, if I don't have to impress her all the time.

I don't owe them anything. I told them tonight by the time I'm 30 I will take every single penny they've earned from them for treating me how they did for 20 years.

I will not help them at all and the moment I'm finished college they are dead to me, I will never speak or have anything to do with my family the day I graduate, I'll never ever speak to them after that day.

My finances are an absolute mess. I am only just coming out of the first well paying job haze of spending all of my money every week. I currently have

>500 dollars on credit card (started at 1000)
>3600 dollars in debt on personal loan
>no car

I would really love to get a car and/or start using money to make more money, which from a bit of the research seems like the best idea is Amazon selling.

What should I do with my tax return? I am lost /biz/
