The only thing it does is prevent the government from printing too much money, but as an economy grows it makes sense for the money supply to grow as well.

Inflation also has the purpose of encouraging investment and spending, while deflation discourages both.

If it helps, I realised recently that I am simply poor, and have always been poor, and I've just been fooling myself with my moderate bank acct.

In 1920's dollars I only have like $1000 to my name and that depressed me. What's more is there's no obvious way to reliably boost my income, so I should start living like my income level. Now I have

If you enjoy being on the tier of a highschooler in every aspect of your life except for your major, then okay, enjoy.
If you didn't learn anything in those gen ed classes, then either you went to a shit college (your fault) or you didn't pay attention cause you didn't deem those classes important (still your fault).

My gen eds were hit or miss in terms of quality sometimes but for the most part, they were probably worth it.
A good amount of them I could say were definitely worth it.

Sure you can get the holding list of an ETF and buy the stocks outright, but why would you waste so much money in commissions doing that? You could buy VOO or SPY paying 1 cost of commissions or possibly free if your brokerage offers no commissions on ETFs, or you could buy all stocks in the S&P yourself paying 500x the commissions.
