Hey guys, I was wondering: do any of you happen to know if there's such a thing as companies that are specifically designed and created to scam people out of their money with psychotherapy? I mean, is it particularly common?

I know that there's people who will immediately say that all of psychotherapy is one big scam, and that the effectiveness of psychotherapy relies largely on patients' faith that it will work. So psychotherapy can be just as effective as anything else that people have faith on, whether it be: prayer, homeopathy, witchcraft, placebos, meditation, etc.

But are there companies in which the psychotherapists are all fully aware that the "psychotherapy treatment" they offer is complete and utter bullshit?

I ask because I've recently begun what is apparently referred to as "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy" and so far paid $600 for 6 sessions (it was recommended that I go to this so-called "psychotherapy" for a total a six months, so that would be about 24 sessions in total... amounting to about $2,400)... but the whole thing just feels like bullshit to me. And I think that my therapist may also be fully aware that it's all bullshit and that I'm being scammed out of my money real good. Or maybe it's because of compassion fatigue. Maybe they just stopped giving a fuck long ago.

What do you guys think?

Ohh lord this shit
Try to find a good Freudian or Lacanian psychotherapist

1. CBT and Psychotherapy are two different disciplines with very different approaches.
2. CBT is generally accepted by the establishment to be effective, at the very least there is less skepticism about CBT than Psychoanalysis or Psychodynamics etc.
3. A lot of counseling by people without even a fucking degree is exactly the kind of scam you're talking about; people like to indulge their narcissism, it's basically the church confessional for the modern age -- suddenly it's all about you. An truth be told, there is a lot to be said about how talking through problems is actually benefitial to a patient because it forces them to see cause-and-effect and become self-aware of how their attitudes may be interpreted by others... however then you get into the whole thing of individual locus.

So short answer: it's possible, just invent your own David Wolffe tier new-age therapy bullshit, and wear the fact that it's not part of the medical establishment as a badge of pride rather than a red-flag. Ya know... if you actually don't want to help people
>>
The issue with CBT:
These people try to view psychology as something that has characteristics of an empirical science. It is also normative in that it is supposed to regulate and control behaviors that are not considered 'normal'

If you actually want to get something out of therapy that isn't some person trying to mold your mind, you should try to find a therapist that assists you in introspection. Lacanian and Freudian psychology are not popular because of the CBT DSMV 5 and pharmaceutical industry, but they were the norm for most of the history of psychotherapy. Also, 'muh sexism' makes them unpopular

Before I get all of the mentally slow people commenting about the economy being shit in Venezuela hear this. A dollar is worth a lot in Venezuela right now. What if this gets taken advantage of and is used to buy goods that could be cheaper over there taking advantage of the hyperinflation to be transferred and sold from other countries or to other countries. I was thinking maybe gold, rocks, or even large amounts of cattle. Or if theres anybody from Venezuela here please do say other things such as the ones i just mentioned.

Maybe find some books about Zimbabwe's hyperinflation. A lot of the same techniques and end games probably apply.

What does it take to make money off a website?
I've come up with an idea (without giving it away of course), to create a simple website with useful information on a certain topic, perhaps useful links and that sort of thing. No more than a few pages. Not intending to earn a significant income off this, just a big of extra cash.
I'm imagining that would be easy to make and I can enlist the help of my friend. I understand however there's server costs or what have you. I've put up a website so I'm not sure how to do that or what exactly is involved. I'm thinking I'd make money off it with google ads or something like that. Is something like this feasible?
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Thanks to you, i just had an idea about a website i could make myself.
But anyway,
It's hard to say and depends on the website itself and the kind of ads and the amount of traffic you're getting.
I think the biggest difficulty is getting high traffic, because there's already billions of websites out there, so why would they use yours?
There are even websites that are extremely popular, but don't earn a profit, because the costs for infrastructure are too high (youtube) or no company is willing to advertise on it (4chan) or because they just don't want any ads (wikipedia).
>>
>>1877484
You're welcome my man
Fair enough. My idea is on a topic that's attached to a lot of marketing. I feel like I've got a niche although I've not really researched it, but yeah generating traffic would be the hardest part no doubt. That been said I'd be satisfied if I could earn more than my running costs.
>>
you will probably make 1$ for every 100 people that visit your website. now imagine the traffic you'd need

Not as much as you may think. We did some shilling with bloggers and although they may claim they make a lot of money per post they really don't. We got fashion bloggers for about $40-$100 per review

Depending on the celebrity it could cost just a couple of hundred for them to send out a tweet.

I cannot think of a socialist regime that didn't collapse or eventually go back to capitalism like China and Vietnam and become infinitely better off.

Even Cuba is starting to go back to capitalism by beginning to legalize private businesses and private property.

>My mom never even finished her degree when she went to college
>my mom's father was a successful business man and so she grew up never worrying about money, didn't finish her degree, then married an engineer so she still didn't have to support herself.
>She then went on to have three kids, ensuring she wasn't expected to work because she was raising us
>mom actually starts her own business when we go away to college and makes 30k a year off it, her father who is a successful business man tries to give her advice but she doesn't take it and settles for the 30k a year it makes instead

How could 1 woman ruin the life's of four men so easily? My dad never even argued with her about sending the three of us away to college for so much money. Now he's working two jobs and myself and my brothers are being robbed by our schools.

If I'm stationed overseas using an FPO AP address what's the best way to buy from trusted sites like Coinbase since they don't support my address type and demand nudes with an American address written on my cock. RSU or ESPP? Or are they just giving you 401k in their own stock?

For the first two, yes absolutely. For the 401k, only if you get it at a discount. In all cases sell it immediately and diversify into an index.
>>
>>1877178

ESPP. Are you factoring in the self driving trucks in ten years or so? How do you think that will effect the market and fed ex? I don't know thing one about stock
>>
>>1877192
ESPP is an agreement to purchase stock at the end of a 6 month period (I think with pretax salary). You designate 1-10% of your salary (do 10%) and agree to purchase stock at the end of a 6 month period. The price you are given is 15% off of the lowest price in that period. Worst case scenario, the lowest price is the current price (at the end of the 6 months) and you get a 15% discount on the stock.

In that worst case scenario it is like getting a 1.5% raise. You sell this shit immediately (when you get it at the end of each 6 months) and take your money. If you need the money, put it in your bank account, if you can invest it, buy an index instead.

You buy an index (like the S&P 500) because it tracks the value of many stocks. If one crashes (like FedEX) it's not such a big deal because all the others are doing well. This is called diversification.

Read the terms of your ESPP agreement to make sure it lines up with what I said. I think it's pretty standard though. It's a great deal and free money. Just sell the stock immediately so you don't have to worry about their long term prospects.

If anything, self driving trucks should increase their profitability in the future. This would mean you would lose your job (unlikely any time soon because last mile delivery is tough, and you guys drive a lot more aggressively than self driving trucks can) but their profitability goes up since they aren't paying for humans but instead buying slave robots.

Take the free money. Get a 401k match too if they offer it. Save and invest like a mother fucker. Diversify. Buy and hold.

Just fucking do it, I tried to write out an entire analysis and pitch for it but it didn't post because it was too long.

Essentially a financially sound company that makes standalone emergency rooms in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and Ohio, they make bank relative to their market cap and have a decent amount of cash on hand, not to mention more than half a billion dollars in total assets. Currently under a class action for potential SEC regulations violations by the executives, whatever, they could win or lose or settle and be fine. Options for their shares at $2.50 (currently they're at $1.59) are going for 9 cents per, and I think they could hit $5 or maybe higher. If Republicans repeal Obamacare, their profits go to the moon.

This looks like a money losing shitshow.

Where's the turnaround and upside? What's their big advantage?

If Trump's deporting the illegals in TX, NM, and CO, that's fewer drunk driving accidents creating customers. If repealing Obamacare brings things toward a more free market, they'll be facing cutthroat price competition. If the executives were fucking with the SEC, what makes you think they weren't cooking the books?
>>
>>1877132
Deportation has nothing to do with profitability you racist, classist fuckhead

However, it is true that the SEC shit makes this a bad business to invest in.
>>
>>1877112
Yeah, except I don't think a standalone ER is a good business model long-term.

From my (limited) experience these places have difficulty with staffing. I think growth will be a serious issue with these companies long term.

Any business, as long as you don't fail too much.

Any job that pays well (programming is easy to make six figures in), as long as you save.

If you loan a company money, that's called a bond. Hopefully they pay you back (with interest).

If you buy a piece of a company, that's a share of stock. Hopefully the company does well. If it does, it becomes worth more and, as a result, you can sell your share for more. The company might also pay you a share of its profit. That's called a dividend.

Over time, our economy gets better, more companies get created, technology advances, and overall there's more wealth. Buying shares in companies or lending them your spare money lets you take part in that growth.

You can buy stocks or bonds through a brokerage account (which is taxed) or retirement account (which are taxed less). I recommend Vanguard: https://personal.vanguard.com/open-account/oax/app/triage#/
