I'm getting a Siberian Husky later this year and I get to choose if I want a male or female.

I like the idea of getting a female one because I've never raised one myself, all my dogs have been male so I have no idea what are the downsides of each one. Also I'm in a new country and I haven't had a dog in about 4 years.

Any comments and recommendations on this?

Female.

There's not really any benefit to getting a male.

So we got a cockatoo as a pet about a week ago. My dad thought it would be a good idea to bring it outside and sit on the hammock with my mom (to get the bird in on the Mother's Day action too). The bird flew away and hasn't come back. Mom hasn't stopped crying since.

Any tips on getting it back? Lol

I don't know what he expected to happen.

You'd be lucky to find its body, let alone to actually get it back alive.
>>
>>2118181
He was a bit intoxicated. I think he's a little more sad that he just basically threw away $1,000 over losing the actual bird.

>>2118179
My mom didn't wanna clip the wings because it was inhumane. I kind of agree.

A kitten randomly showed up on my porch last night and both of her eyes are crusted and oozing on and off. She very sweet so I plan on taking care of her but she won't eat. Anyone hear have any remedies for her eyes or appetite her nose is also dripping like she has a cold. Pic related

I plan on taking her to the vet tomorrow since they are all closed on Sunday around here.
>>
>>2118018
I have nothing for the eyes, but maybe get some kitten formula? It may not have been weaned properly and doesn't know cat food.
>>
>>2118028
That was my guess too I'm going to the store today to get some. Hopefully when we go to the vet the eyes won't be too serious.

You think so???
>>

It is either the entrance to a critter's tunnel OR it is where a critter was excavating for food. Skunks, for example, dig up wasps' nests underground and eat all the larvae and eggs. Hard to say which this is without more details. It kinda looks like claw marks in the now-dry mud. Does this area get watered by sprinklers?

Should I foster a cat or dog? Have plenty experience with both but my issue is that I live somewhere else for 5-6 months. I'm here until October, would it be worth it? Am I still helping even if no one actually adopts it by the time I have to leave? I could possibly take it with me but it would still be temporary and I'd be in another state, so I'm not sure if a rescue would be OK with that. I'd just feel bad if I had to just return it if I can't

Tl;dr convince me to foster or not.
I'd be interested in a senior animal if that helps.

Dogs and some cats will bond so close and have separation anxieties. Cats will feel stressed going to new places often. I think neither is good idea unless you keep the dog and take it wherever you go, period.

Domesticated catsnakes will do great, they have no fear, they love you and want to eat your toes. But you better not abandon/sell them when you move, they are perfect ok with moving and new environments.

I'm trying to get to sleep but this spider keeps bothering me.

I felt it crawling over my shoulder and onto my face so I pushed it off, took the pic related then shooed it away. I just felt it on my back as well.

Why is this spider being a dick?

>>
>>2119448
Why would you not just kill it?
Also I feel you, I've been getting a new spider bite every day I sleep in shorts
>>
>>2119456

I'd feel a bit bad for killing it deliberately unless it bites me, which it hasn't done yet. If it does bite me I will not care if I kill it, same if I accidentally squish it during the night.

I'm vaguely curious as to what it is, my dad mentioned there being false widows in the back garden once but it doesn't seem to have the right markings on it.
>>
>>2119462
it's a false widow.

What.

Is this normal for horses?
38 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
As awful as it may sound, it's been standard practice since pretty much forever.
>>
Yep. Horses are screwed if they break a leg because there usually isn't any feasable way to keep them on 3 legs long enough for it to heal without fucking them up everywhere else.
>>
Horses can't just lay in bed and wait for their legs to heal. Their organs can't support their body's weight so if they lay down too long they will die. Depending on the type of break, there is a way to treat it but it can be stupid expensive and it might not work. The animal may be forever lame, leading to a lesser quality of life. It is often better and more humane to put them down

Hi all,

Has anyone tried befriending the local crows? I've heard they are brilliant by animal standards.
17 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>2118350
Yes, they are brilliant. All you have to do is feed them chopped up hot dogs and grated carrots and such.

But you should check your local wildlife laws. Depending on where you are feeding wild animals could get you fined. The laws are there to protect the more endangered animals from accidentally being poisoned by idiots who think it's cute to feed "bambi".

>>
>>2118401
Clearly you did something wrong.

Or maybe the people where you live are just generic assholes to birds enough that the smarter ones have simply associated humans in general as a threat and no longer bother to distinguish between individuals.

Yes, crows are smart enough to recognize and differentiate between humans.

My brother's cat had kittens
Me and my younger brother and sister visited his house to play with them. They were so cute

Today we were going to go again, but my brother calls, and tells me that the mother literally bit one of the kittens' neck, and then proceeded to eating her own child.

What the fuck.

I am actually sick to the stomach from hearing that. I googled and it's apparently quite normal. Sometimes mother cat might just decide to starve one of her own children, and refuse to feed it, till it dies.
Fucking hell
