The neighbour's just installed a chicken coop with about 6 chooks right next to our back 6ft fence and my 6 month old herding dog (kelpie x koolie) is obsessed.

I'm worried about her either jumping over or digging under the fence while we're out to get to them. I don't know if she'd kill them or just try to play with them but I don't want to find out. We lay bricks across fence line because she's made attempts to dig under. She's pretty small at the moment (15kg) but incredibly agile and will grow out a bit more.

She gets two to three huge walks a day so it's not out of boredom, just pure fascination.

Anyone have any experience with jumpers/diggers? Or experience with working dogs going after livestock?

If they have a coop maybe try to let them sit nearby with you til they get used to them, you know, introduce them in a safe setting. At least that's what I've always heard about introducing dogs to potentially edible animals.

Put it back right now. You're killing it.

Any cat owners here have experience with swollen paws? I have a ~1 year old male cat (fixed and shots) who primarily hangs outside during the day who came home with a rather swollen right front paw today. During his outside time he's prone to climbing trees and hunting mice, birds, snakes and bees (the latter of which I'm hoping caused this). He doesn't appear to be encumbered by this (no limp, no signs of pain) and it just showed up this morning. Some sources online are saying ingrown toenail, I don't clip his so perhaps this is a possibility?

Thanks

He was a stray who, alongside two siblings, appeared on my property out of nowhere. I took him in and found homes for the other two. He loves being outside and pesters me until I open the door for him, then returns every night and sleeps inside. He even comes when I whistle.
>>
Try to squeeze his paw and see if the claws come out? And see from there? I'd say give the swelling 2 days to go down before calling the vet (this is an arbitrary number based on absolutely nothing btw, if you feel you need to take the animal sooner then do so) IF it does not bother him, and keep him indoors where you can keep a really good eye on him. Call the vet as soon as you notice limping, lethargy, puss, bleeding, excessive grooming, anything out of the norm for him. If it is an ingrown nail, DO NOT try to take it out yourself; it can be very painful, but also the cat would need to be on antibiotics as their paws get extremely dirty and that's where the open wound would be. Your vet would probably want him on special wood pellet litter and to be kept inside until the wound heals if that's the case

Does anyone here work with animals? I am a fish biologist with Oregon and my job is to reintroduce Chum Salmon to the Lower Columbia River, it's quite fun. I spend most of my time evaluating habitat, releasing fish, and then evaluating data.

I remember during swim practice one of those guys managed to get into the pool. We were messing with it a ton and I think it just swam into the filter or lane line to get away. I already knew not to fuck with them but I thought it would be pretty funny if one of my friends got bit so I didn't tell them about what they were messing with. I showed them the Wikipedia about it the next day and they flipped out. Good times

You broke your virginity and didn't even get to hear them?

Disappointing.

The lack of a head and the weird front legs should have been the give away

I was wondering if anyone here may be able to help me out. I know the answer should be "take him to the vet" but im at a loss as they wont do anything at all without all of the money upfront and due to recent financial hardship i cant afford that. My cats jaw has just about vanished, the big teeth fell out and his tongue started drooping out. He still has energy, and moves about as much as before purring and acting like normal. He just has a lot of trouble eating. I dont feel right putting him down as he is but hes having a harder and harder time eating. Is there a safe way i could keep him fed for something like a month while I get my money back in order and can have him helped? Ive seen people mention the syringe with milk but that cant be enough nutrients for that amount of time.

In short, old cat trouble eating but wants to eat

Had thousands saved and was ready to take care of things, the cat was taken in after someone had him declawed and abandoned in a parking lot so ive been just taking care of him for years. I could give you a sob story about why i had to use all of my money but im more concerned about trying to care for him while i make the money again.

I have an exterminator roll through every two months. I also buy my dog a tick collar and have several bottles of tick killer on the ready.

We get them bad where I live, so its taken a few years for me to figure out the routine

How retarded can someone be? Yeah, the crow definitely just grabbed the dog to steal him, it definitely didn't eat it.

Also how retarded do you have to be to allow a dog THAT small to go outside by itself, especially when you see there are a bunch of large birds out there.

Post your creepy crawly things and talk about what more you want.

I'll start. I only have a Chilean Rose Hair right now, but at the expo in June I'm thinking about getting a Cobalt Blue Tarantula. They sell babies for like $10.

Sicarius terrosus. In retrospect, I should have ground up the new sand and generated some dust so it would attach better. My other one is on black sand which is probably just fucking eroded igneous rock, so the particles are too damn big too.

>I'm thinking about getting a Cobalt Blue Tarantula. They sell babies for like $10.

Build up your collection, but know that they're kind of shit to have as only one of two tarantulas. A proper setup for Cyriopagopus lividum means that you'll only see it at night sitting at the edge of the burrow. Turn on the lights or shine a light at it, and it'll dash back in. Grab some Lasiodora parahybana at that show too to make up for it. You can negotiate sellers down to nothing for those. Still one of my favorites after a decade of keeping these kunts.

Also, Hapalopus sp. Columbia are the shit. No one cares about them anymore now that people realized they're so easy to breed, but they're easy to keep and docile. You can get babies for $10.

So, I understand why feeding cats wet or raw food makes sense. But I don't understand the people saying dry food is basically "poison" to cats.

I've had 3 cats pass away in my life so far, all between 22 and 24 years old, who have all eaten dry food. I know of at least a dozen more from friends and family who have also had very old cats who only are dry food.

In my family, we take our pets to the vet regularly, and they have never had anything worse than an upper respiratory infection. No UTI, no dehydration, good stools, amazing coats, and lots of energy up until their last few days.

I don't even?
