I suppose it's not a crisis, but it is a bit weird.
My wife and I had wanted to get a rabbit for some time, but back when we first met, we were living in a succession of apartments, most of whom wouldn't allow pets, so yeah. Anyway, it was pretty silly, but I once got her a stuffed rabbit kind of as a reminder/promise that one day we'd have our own place and get a real one.
We get our own place, get a real rabbit, and "Sam" the stuffed rabbit takes up residence in the attic. One day, I'm going through some stuff in the attic, and Bunford, our actual rabbit, follows me up the ladder/stairs (and I had no idea he would try that, he's usually scared of heights) and while looking around, he spots the stuffed rabbit, grabs it in his mouth, and hops back down the ladder/stairs again.
He takes that stuffed rabbit with him a lot. When he's going for food, he'll invariably drop the stuffed rabbit by his bowl. When he wants to go outside, he'll often bring the stuffed rabbit, although he won't take him outside. When the vacuum is running or a dog is barking outside and he's scared, he'll always run on over to the stuffed rabbit.
Can rabbits identify with an object like that? I just kind of assumed they wouldn't have that kind of mental ability.
Apologies for the shit pic, I'm a terrible photographer.

Nothing to be concerned about, it's pretty normal. I'm actually glad he took to the toy like that. Keeps him company when one of you can't. Just make sure he can't tear it up and choke on it.
How young was the rabbit when first interacting with the stuffed animal.

I found a little striped bark scorpion today. Brought him home and put him in a little habitat. Does anyone have one? What do they eat? What should i name him/her? Can i keep it with my flat rock scorpion?

>>2121602
kill it before it kills you
I have one, wild caught, I've had it for over a year now and they're great and easy to keep,I got a second one like 3 months after my first and it died within about 2 months, but the first one is healthy, calm, it eats tiny crickets, when I go buy some for my tarantulas I get a few small for him/her. Pretty chill scorpion
what kind of a cat is this, what breed?
is it normal for a cat to be this pretty?
All cats are pretty, OP.
>>2121597
>is it normal for a cat to be this pretty?
No.
Hey /an/, /vp/ here. This pic is from a new Pokemon S&M trailer. Theres a new pokemon spotted on the left in front of the human NPC, and we were wondering if you could help figure out what animal its based on.
Keep in mind the game region is based on Hawaii, but that doesn't necessarily mean it has to be based on a Hawaiian native species.
better pic here
what if it's not a pokemon but just a dog?
>>2121572
there aren't any normal animals in the games
how easy is it to care for sneks? how big of a cage do smaller ones require?
>>2121516
The common ones kept as pets range from very easy to intermediate difficulty. The primary thing with all snakes is to get their habitat conditions correct; correct temperature gradient and humidity, correct decor and ample hiding spots. The good thing is that you can get yourself a tank and heating equipment, fiddle around to get the settings right, well before you purchase the actual animal.
Rough rule of thumb on sizing is a minimum tank size of tank length + tank width = total length of snake, plus a little bit extra. There is a lot of variation in snake size, you can get something that will be maybe two feet as an adult (rosy boa, kenyan sand boa, garters), medium size snakes like corns, kings, milks, ball pythons, children's/spotted pythons, and lots more anywhere from 3 feet to 6-ish feet, and then there are the big boys which of course get fuckhuge.
>>2121516
Trying not to repeat ^ but yeah snakes are relatively easy (compared to mammals) to care
for. Once you've figured out the correct temp and humidity, basic needs would be:
>Appropriate sized food once a week
>A clean bowl of water always
>At least 2 hides, one in the cold spot the other in the hot one
>Spot clean feces when you see them (1 or 2 poops per week)
>A cleanup of the whole enclosure once a month
>UVA lighting if you can: snakes don't need UVB per se, but the UVA helps them regulate their feeding responses.
>Heat mat or heat lamp or both. Depends on who you're asking.
Also, I wouldn't recommend getting a sub-tropical snake species, since they will usually get bigger apart for some boas and dwarf subspecies and are a lot harder to maintain. While we're at it, try not to pick a snake bigger than 6' as your first one.
You can get everything you need under 200$ easily if you build some hides or branches yourself and if you lurk craigslist or such long enough.
Oh, and if you plan to have an aquarium as the enclosure, just put things around it for privacy. Try to leave just one clear glass.
Why are retractable leashes still even a thing? No dog owner I've seen that uses one ever has control of their dog.
I use one for my cat specifically for the reason I can't control him
i use one for my dog but i used to not use a leash at all .. he's got pretty good recall
With (chicken) chick, which are precocial birds, I know that they have the yolk inside them when they hatch, so they have something to 'eat' for the first little while.
recently I found a broken egg of a pigeon, which are altricial birds. out of curiousity, I opened it up, and found an almost developed chick, with the yolk beside it connected at the cloaca.
So I wondered, do all precocial birds have their yolk inside them, and all altricial birds their yolk outside?
I've hatched and raised chickens for years, I was always under the impression that the yolk was not inside them but attached to them and that as they feed from it it slowly went away, the same way you are describing the pigeon egg you opened.
>>2121370
This. I'm pretty sure chickens start eating shit the day they're born.
>I know that they have the yolk inside them
Wat
How do you guys deal with ticks? I found two on me yesterday but only because for a split second I had a very slight itch in the areas they were located at. I heard dish detergent cause them to come off more easily if you dab some on them though I had mix results, maybe I just didn't wait long enough as I wanted them gone asap as soon as I saw it.
This board is animals and nature, ticks are sadly part of nature. I am mostly asking how to get ticks off of your own body though I guess I can't stop anyone from posting easy ways of removing ticks from pets as well.
I am more worry about the possible ticks that may be left unnoticed, would a hot bubble bath be enough to cause them to latch off?
>>2121244
No. They are pretty resistant. Neither cold nor heat do them harm. They are driven by scent. If they are on u they go 4 warm places bcuz blood flow. They get anywhere since they also bite birds and can drop off of them. Mostly they get onto while your standing on grass. This is possible on small green spots remember birds. This is y u should check ur feet after standing a while on
Just buy one of those $1 tick-removal tools at your local feed store and pull them off. Make sure to get their heads out. If a big red ring like a target appears around a bite go to the doctor because that means it gave you Lyme disease
>>2121329
this
lyme disease is a bitch man
I want to have a snail as a pet and possibly breed them. Any good resources/books?
Who could I sell snail eggs to?
Any information on inbreeding as well?
>>2121108
What do you expect to gain from breeding snails?
>>2121520
More snails.
>Hungry Venezuelans Hunt Dogs, Cats, Pigeons as Food Runs Out
https://archive.is/C0g63
>Highlights
Ramón Muchacho, Mayor of Chacao in Caracas, said the streets of the capital of Venezuela are filled with people killing animals for food.
Through Twitter, Muchacho reported that in Venezuela, it is a “painful reality” that people “hunt cats, dogs and pigeons” to ease their hunger.
[Last] May 1, six Venezuelan military officials were arrested for stealing goats to ease their hunger, as there was no food at the Fort Manaure military base.

Not surprising honestly.
Thank fuck I don't live in a 3rd world shit stain like that.
Why do commies always act like communism works when every communist country ends up being extremely oppressive and their people poor as shit?
>TL;DR help me learn the classifications of life
Like most of you, I absolutely love nature. But I am also someone who loves to know what things are and how they work. It sucks to be in a forest without knowing shit about it. Can you guys give me some good ways/books/videos/etc. that would help me learn what things are--i.e. memorizing the names of species, behavior, all that.
I'm sorry that this is vague, I just want some good methods.

So what's /an/s opinion on dressing dogs up? Where do you guys draw the line (ie winter coats) or is it just a plain no?
>>2120856
disturbingly anthropocentric.
if you want some noisy little shit monster that you can dress up just have a damn kid. But then I'm not sure we want these people reproducing.
>>2120873
This. Clothes have an usefull application, ie not getting cold. Doggies don't have that problem. Clothing them is dangerously close to fetishization of your animal, especially with "cute little dresses"
For fucks sake
>>2120856
Imagine someone forcing you into a stupid dress like on the pic. I say its animal cruelty.
My roommate has one of these and it hates the everloving shit out of me. It's cool with him, it's cool with his girlfriend, it's cautious around strangers but it snaps at me anytime I get close. Even if I just put my finger near his cage he starts knocking his open beak into the side of it.
I've never done anything to this bird; in fact, I rarely ever see it since it's in his room most of the time. I just want to make friends with it. how do I do that without losing a fingertip in the process?
Feed it millets
spend time around it without touching it, give it treats, eat food it can have in front of it and offer it some, get it used to you
but also be prepared for it to not like you anyway it sounds like your roommate hasn't really socialized it well
>>2120845
you probably look like the thug that shanked his mother in a dirty alley that cold November morning so many years ago.
He's not going to forgive.
