The other day I found my Ridge Racer Hi-spec disc (the bonus one that came with rrt4) that I thought I had lost many years ago.

for me it was easier to learn the words/grammar before the alphabets. Older games usually didn't use Kanji due to memory limitations or had Hiragana/katakana above them anyway.

If you know the words and sentence structure, when you're trying to read something in a game you'll just be able to figure out what it's saying a lot quicker.

Do you have any suggestions on where to start with this? It seems like it may be more trouble than it's worth.

Yes I'm at it for a year now and I can read all the simple stuff like gameboy games. First you need to learn the kana, then get anki to grind vocabulary and get yourself a grammar book like Japanese the Manga way. Then study religiously every day for a couple of hours. The hardest part is to keep at it. Good luck.

The 90's were a perfect storm of 2D and 3D together, especially in the anime style. It was perfect.
