I just got a Nintendo 64 from eBay, it arrived in perfect condition and the seller claims it's fully working but I can't seem to get any picture or sound from my TV.

I've got a Samsung 40" smart 3D tv (model UE40H6200AK) so I'm thinking maybe it's a bit too modern for a console like the N64.

The thing is, I can play my PS2 slim on it no problem through the red/yellow/white ports, and I had my Sega Saturn working fine just the other day.

I couldn't figure out how to make it work using the RF cable either. Am I doing something obviously wrong here? I don't have another TV to test it with so I might end up sending it back to the guy on eBay.

So I'm wanting to download a MAME rom set. The file is a whopping 50gb. Could I get caught by my ISP by downloading such a huge file? Thanks.

completely talking out of my ass right now but probably not. in my experience they only care about movies (especially newer ones) but it really depends on your ISP

so i haven't played a lot of the classic mario platformers (SMB and 3 on NES, a little bit of world on SNES). what would guys say is the best way to play them at the moment? the mario all stars+world and the SNES version of yoshi's island or the 4 advance games for the GBA?
i'll play them through emulation either way.

Your picture says it all, doesn't it?
GBA games have brighter color palette due to the GBA screen, it looks washed up and pale on emulators.
The screen resolution is also tinier, I haven't played the GBA Mario games and I assume they're still playable, but SNES lets you see more of the screen.
And then there's the sound, GBA has a tinier sound.

The GBA versions have some extras, but IMO the original games are perfect as they are. Leave the extra stuff for a second playthrough maybe, but you're fine playing the OG versions.
>>
The GBA games have some bonus content, but lose screen resolution.
The bonus content isn't a big deal anyway.

I'd say play the SNES versions, except for Mario Advance 4. And use this hack with it:

Oh what the fuck, there isn't actually a download for it.

I'll see if I can find a different link or upload it myself.

Is there anyone producing new content for old consoles atm? I remember there being some for Dreamcast but that's about it.

Think you'd buy new games for snes or gameboy if they were made with cartridges, proper packaging etc? Could be pretty neat

This. The company is Watermelon Games, i think. And the name of the game used to be Project Y but finally got changed recently. And oddly enough the time's i've seen it discussed on here there was no flaming. Or none beyond usual.

I mean it's not bad, but it's not an improvement either. Why?

Every single fighting video game is just the same 1v1 matches. /vr/ prove me wrong!

Pretty much every "Top 10 NES games" list has the same top 10 games. But something I've noticed is that generally the games were all surpassed elsewhere.
• Super Mario Bros 3 - surpassed by Kirby's Adventure
• Super Mario Bros. - Surpassed by Adventure Island
• Legend of Zelda - surpassed by Crystalis
• Metroid - surpassed by Ufouria,
• Final Fantasy - surpassed by Dragon Warrior 4
• Megaman 2 - surpassed by 3 - 6
• Castlevania - No need to be surpassed, it was shitty
• Zelda 2 - No need to be surpassed, it was shitty
• Duck Tales - it's okay, but not top 10
• Punch Out - this one deserves to be here

Why does everyone forget the superior games?

>Graphics don't matter

You don't enjoy nice visuals? Beautiful paintings, watching the sun set, and the deep, blue ocean waves don't do anything for you?

I don't get why gamers, especially in the retro community, say this. Graphics matter just as much as sound matters. You only want gameplay? Fine. Let's remove all music, sound effects, storylines, and just have white stick figures on a black background hopping around.

Is it just me or were Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts adventures for complete pussies?

Interesting deaths used to be the main draw of adventure gaming dating back to the text era.
