What does /vr/ think about True Love? This was the first game i thought i would see discussed here given its nature. But i have never seen the game even mentioned. Is that obvious?
It comes up occasionally
It comes up once in a while.
It's basically baby's first dating sim, mainly popular because it was released in the US.
The system is way too simple and you get too much time. There's only two girls that can't be obtained during the same playthrough because you are forced to decide between them.
It's noteworthy for being the only Japanese men's romance sim ever officially marketed for the English market.
These days nobody knows what a romance sim is, and people confuse them with character raising sims and non-sim choose-your-own-adventure novel games.
Here's another DK 64. How do we fix it?
>make everything accessibly collectible by everybody
That's a good start, but we need a way to balance that out.
I was thinking that the best way to do it is to make a entire world a lobby with rooms dedicated to each Kong so they can make it based on their abilities.
And you have a situation where you do something that affects the other Kong's room so he can get another GB (ex:Chunky starts throwing boulders, making an avalanche that affects Lanky's Room and he can now get to a higher platform with all the rocks).
But if we're talking about the vanilla game
>everyone can collect everything except golden bananas
>insta-swaps
>some parts are swap-locked, you can only use one character in that area.
>get rid of most minigames and replace them with platforming sections or more of those sneak/kill/collect coins mazes
>Instruments are useless besides clearing enemies, get rid of them or only use them for a rhythm minigame for GBs
>DK Arcade with 2 lives for both GB and N64 coin
Me and my brother came up with an interesting idea. This is inspired from DKC and the King Kutout fight-
Have each kong able to rotate with the press of a button on the spot. Each hit costs 1 whole melon, but each Kong has their own health counter. When they die, they get lost just like in DKC. Then you have barrels scattered in the level to get your Kongs back.
It fixes the backtracking because you can just switch out on the spot, and it adds a slight bit more difficulty/punish, but not an unreasonable amount (you get a 2nd melon in Angry Aztec, and a 3rd somewhere between Fungi Forrest and Crystal Caves)

Pull a Gearbox and siphon the funds to make MediEvil III.
I just beat pic related on easy mode in my first try since I never got past the beach stage on normal. I didn't use any continues and had 4 lives left when I beat Mr. X. How much harder is normal mode compared to this?
The real game is in Mania mode which is unlockable by a code. The Bosses have like, completely new patterns and set ups.
>>4242598
>I didn't use any continues and had 4 lives left when I beat Mr. X
Wtf you did great. What the hell are you complaining about.
>>4242617
Because it was easy mode. It felt really cheap like that time when I steamrolled through the japanese easy mode of Castlevania.
I don't get it.
Was it supposed to be a twist in the early game that Polito was Shodan?
Both Xerxes and the Many have dialogue where they straight up ask why you're helping "her" and "the machine mother".
I see a lot of people talk about Shodan helping you being a twist, but just playing the game it is not subtle at all about who you're talking to.
And another question.
Why do people praise this game as some kind of amazing RPG?
From the time I've sunk into, the rpg mechanics feel like absolute garbage.
Mostly in regards to weapon skills. Standard could be considered overpowered. Energy Weapons and Heavy Weapons have only ONE weapon wroth using. Exotic is pretty much a dead end unless you're insistent on using the Crystal Shard.
Skill based bonus damages hurt weapon balance, because then it means your level 1 gun will be doing more damage than the gun you have to sink 6 points of skill in to even use.
It's a fine game, but to call it a good RPG feels ridiculous.
Also, a third question.
I'm replaying the game and I'm presently in engineering.
In the radiation exposed tunnels near the start, my screen kind of does a weird shaking when taking steps.
Is that supposed to happen? It doesn't happen anywhere else in the level, just those tunnels.
But that the same time, I don't recall that ever happening in any of my previous playthroughs.
first game is better imo
what controller do you use for emulation? a saturn one, right?
>>4242360
>emulation
you must be new here
>>4242360
Why would I need emulation when I could just play any of my consoles on my CRT TV? Unless you're a poorfag, there's no need to emulate. Besides it's never 100% accurate.
>>4242375
Emulation is the best thing invented after Internet. There is nothing wrong with it.
>>4242385
I'm a poorfag and gave all my old consoles to young cousins. Emulation was a second life when I discovered it 20 years ago.
The joy of retrogaming does not depends on the hardware you use and this is nice.
>>4242360
I use a Logitech Chillstream.
I just found out that this game apparently has an English patch now. Has anyone tried it?
>>4242347
looking good
Im interested
>>4242347
Isn't this a game similar to Shenmue?
>Mizzurna Falls was the final game released by Human Entertainment, the creators of the Clock Tower series. In Mizzurna Falls, a young man named Matthew must search for his missing friend Emma in an open-world, real-time game environment with a heavy emphasis on complex storytelling and dialogue. The game , which is heavily influenced by the works of David Lynch, has never been localised into English or released outside of Japan, and yet it was a clear influence on games such as Shenmue and Deadly Premonition.
Would playing CT help connect anything extra in this story? I enjoy it a little more now than I did when it was new, but I still feel like I'm missing a few details.
>>4242329
Play Radical Dreamers.
>>4242329
Kind of? CC was rushed towards the end so most of the major plot points you could have picked up are skimmed over really fast. Though you would appreciate the few references it does have like what FATE really is.
well there are a few parts where it's awkward in knowing where to go next.
also the story is kind of disjointed. definitely not as straight forward as CT.
still, CC is a gorgeous game with amazing music and great overall atmosphere. I loved it more than CT.
My n64 controller pak died, so I need to get a new one.
It was a "performance memory card plus" (that one with the switch, is supposed to be 4 paks in one), should I get a regular Nintendo one or try another 3rd party Pak?
Thanks.
>>4242210
third party is fine, they just used cheap Chinese batteries when being manufactured but if you replace the batteries they are good
I fucking hate Rumiko Takahashi. Her art style is not so bad but every single one of her works are awful.
>>4242296
mind explaining yourself?
I thought the entire Urusei Yatsura series was top comfy. especially the second movie.
Alright I like Final Fantasy 8. But somebody help me here. Why the hell did she decide she was gonna compress time.
And more than that, if junction machine Ellone allowed her to send her consciousness back into the past then why didn't she just shoot her mind back to when edea was still the matron of the orphanage and snatch up Ellone then?
>>4242130
final fantasy 8 is so comfy.
>>4242130
>Why the hell did she decide she was gonna compress time?
See pic.
>>4242131
Well yes, yes it is. I get a lot of shit for saying it but it's my favorite final fantasy. And I'm old enough to not care anymore.
I'm buying a fucking Amiga. New to retro shit, though. Not sure which one I should get. Not sure how much cash I need. I want one that'll work for a long time.
(1/2)
I'm buying Black Crypt. I want the definitive experience while playing on actual Amiga hardware. I'm willing to drop a couple thousand. Won't pull the trigger for a few months, though. I wanna research shit. I don't wanna spend more than necessary. I'd appreciate some advice.
(2/2)
OP here. Fuck. This shit's rare. I might have to play it on a modern PC.
OP again. Found a dope guide: http://www.racketboy.com/retro/commodore-amiga-101-beginners-guide
Would still appreciate advice.
could the 32x run Sonic Mania? discuss this and other what ifs regarding modern games running in old consoles
>>4241841
No idea OP but here is a video of the Mania intro being played on a Genesis sooooooo maybe??
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ip_YB0Li5Gw
All I can say is while people keep saying Mania looks like a Saturn game, I can only think that it looks like a 32X game. The exuberant and detailed colors, background and sprites are what make me think like that.
Mania would require at least the Saturn to run imo, if only for the Special Stages if nothing else.
32x/CD might be able to handle the rest okay.
is retro poster kino? i was thinking of buying this for $16.
>more than 130 enemies
What? There were not that many enemies in Yoshi's Island. Not even half that amount.
Has the iQue Player been cracked yet? I swear, this thing is more secure than Fort Knox.
who cares
>>4241539
Speed runners
all these buttons look absolutely horrible
Black Crypt thread.
I just started playing, and this is the metallest fucking RPG there ever was.
Is anyone else here a fan? Are games like Legend of Grimrock that draw influence from Black Crypt any good? Is Black Crypt itself worth playing all the way through?
>>4241507
You just showed me the perfect retro game. Which console's got the definitive release? How much is this shit gonna run me?
Just looked it up. Not surprised to learn it's Raven Software's debut title. I fucking love Heretic. Guess I'll be buying a fucking Amiga.
>>4241847
http://thecompany.pl/game/Black+Crypt
The back contact is perfectly fine and the game works but isn't worn out contacts a really bad thing? Got it CIB for $10.
>>4241380
That doesn't look right. Here is my cart for reference. Perhaps it was a release? Does it say "Made in Mexico" on the back? Is the manual full color or black and white?
>>4241767
>Lion King
There's much more wrong with this pic besides worn out contacts.
>>4241767
its a cib. instruction manual, back cover and cart say assembled in mexico. the back cart also have the Virgin sticker. the case doesnt have the sega logo inside. just looks generic. i think its legit and the owner is just retarded. he didnt show the contact in the ebay pic. i would open it up and check the pcb but i dont have the screwdriver for this retarded bit.
