Is this game easy to play in Japanese?? I got the Seiken Densetsu collection for Switch because why the fuck not, I've got disposable income. Never played the original in all honesty.

If you have a simple vocabulary the whole thing is in kana so it's not that hard to read. Really there isn't much that you are gonna miss outside of some really bad story.

Yeah, I've been studying Japanese for the 5 years or so (been kind of lazily studying in the 5th year though). I've got hiragana and katakana down pat. It's the kanji that I still can't read perfectly.

I'll try and keep that in mind

I found an old floppy with a few screenshots on it, after i converted them over to a usable picture i was wondering if anyone ever heard of this game? Look like Atari 2600 for me?

For some reason it also was named ".jprg" at the end?

Why the hell is it so hard to acquire these? Is there literally no other company offering these?

People charging quadtriple the price on ebay and you can only buy them from 1 supplier who only accepts a purchase of 100cases with 50$ shipping totalling 150+$

4 is fun, but a tad too much on the casual side.

Anyone want to post some interesting /vr/ bugs in games? I recently came across the sketch bug in FFVI by accident, which made me think of missingno and other similar pointer errors. What are some interesting occurrences in games that you know of? Could be internal type bugs (Sequence skips, street fighter combos, etc) or major gamebreaking bugs (Buffer overflows, incorrect pointers, etc).

In Lufia II on the SNES, in the config menu, you had the option of changing from mono to stereo sound. It also had some other weird effects sometimes. It would rearrange the letters of a character's name (uGy, eSlan), and temporary characters could be killed and set to level 0. Level 0 specifically was really interesting because it maxed the character's stats and they became almost unkillable. The HP bar did not correspond to their current HP. Their exp required to level up was calculated at the end of every battle (as per normal), but it took several seconds to display because the number calculation took a lot of time. I was unable to replicate this bug in an emulation environment and it doesn't even always work on the console either. I never see anyone else report that bug, but it definitely requires hardware to happen.

Afternoon guys.
Myself and a friend went in on a job lot of Sony PVM's and as he's collected them, he's decided which of the two he wants for himself and I have to make do with the other two.
I'm completely uneducated in the specifics of the model differences, and to be truthful my knowledge of the specifics of RGB or YPbPr is non-existent.

The 4 models collected are 14L4, 14N6E, 1440QM, and 1444QM.
He has taken the first two for himself. Am I missing out there?
I'm equally financially invested in this so should there be anything I should be aware of before just agreeing?

Using them with PAL consoles with relevant BNC adapters.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Normally I'd say just wait a couple months for demand to die down and stores to get restocks in, but that'll put us ass-deep into Christmas season, so just wait until New Year's I guess. Last January is when I got Smash Bros. Link for $7, and Ganondorf & Ryu each for $4.

Hey /vr/, I was looking for cheap Famiclone controllers and found this:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/SNES-USB-Classic-Controller-for-Super-Nintendo-Games-Free-Shipping-OD-S/32581852159.html

Now I wonder if it's just some crazy Chinese bootleg idea or were there really SNES controllers like this made at some point of gaming history?

I don't enjoy RPGs that are pure dungeon crawlers. I've always been more interested in RPGs that involve actual role-playng, and that type of RPG seemed to really kick off with Fallout, BG, and PS:T.

Given that these are my preferences, are the Ultima games worth playing and which ones should I play?
16 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
Do Elder Scrolls, Ultima will bore you.
>>
Kinda agree with >>4245726
Ulitima is less about roleplaying as you're defining it, and more about puzzle sovling, deciphering cryptic hints, drawing your own maps, etc....
>>
The early Ultima games place you in first-person dungeons. It's only the overworlds and towns that are explored in a top-down perspective. So they still feel like dungeon crawlers. Later games integrate the dungeons onto one ubiquitous game world map, so those are more like Tibia I guess.

The Ultima games don't have very good writing. I can't say I've ever cared much for the whole "collect all virtues" story arc that pervades the series. So from a role-playing perspective, you may find the series to be pretty lackluster.

For a less common suggestion: I'll go out on a limb and say King's Quest: Mask of Eternity. It's technically not a role-playing game, but it's probably a lot more immersive than your run-of-the-mill CRPG.

Modchip your console and burn an iso of the original game or just emulate it. It's not that great, feels like there's too much RNG and the finishing moves get tiresome after watching over and over.

Anybody here have sega channel back in the 90s?

>Sega Channel was an online game service developed by Sega for the Genesis video game console, serving as a content delivery system. Launching in December 1994, Sega Channel was provided to the public by TCI and Time Warner Cable through cable television services by way of coaxial cable.

had this for a couple years in the mid 90s. it was alright. most of the games the populated the bi-weekly lineup were bargain-bin shit that you didn't really want to play all that badly anyway. but every once in a while you could come across something killer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMRLZcBiN-k

any other anons have sega channel back in the day?

Never had it, but were any SEGA Channel games different from retail? I've never seen SEGA Channel versions of ROMs, but I'm assuming out of the many games on the service, at least a few would have changes.
>>
>>4245472
Ya and it was hot garbage. Had it for like 3 months and barely used it. Calling it an "online game service" is a stretch.

Just beginning this after finishing Secret of Mana. I've heard there's some path-branching in this game - how much of it is there and how does it play out? Are there sidequests and other nonlinear/missable aspects? I remember SoM being pretty barebones in this regard.

The game is linear. Only in one particular part of the game there's a bunch of dungeons that you can finish in any particular order, but you still need to complete all of them anyway.

The path-branching is the class system. Later on the game you will have the option of changing your class, and it goes like pic related. Normally light classes are more support-ish and dark classes are more damage oriented, but I'm not sure if all of them are like that.

Dark Light and Light Dark are not the same, as they would be, "a support-ish upgrade to the dark class" or a "a damage oriented upgrade to light class".

That's pretty much it.
>>
Your choice of main character will determine which of the three villains becomes the main villain, and you'll see a few extra scenes depending on your other two character choices, but that's it.
>>
>>4245447
This is pretty much it. The campaign has a lot of variables, but they're determined in advance by the party you chose when starting the run. Instead of making choices as you play you just replay the game with different team combinations to see what changes.

As >>4245394 said, you have a lot of options with building your three heroes, so two teams of the same three characters could end up playing very differently.

About to play this for the first time. Should I go in blind and risk building the world badly?
54 posts and 6 images submitted.

I stopped enjoying the game as much when I started using guides on how to properly craft a monster/ weapons/ etc.

I would say play it blind, then play it with more help again years later

Legend of mana is such a beautiful and peaceful game
>>
>>4245260
Yes. It's best played blind first. There's replayability to it so if you like it gives a good reason to use guides second time around.
>>
>>4245260
The world building only comes into crafting and monster ranching, which really are just cool things you can do for fun, and you can play the entire game without ever going into the workshop.

Legend of Mana is a very special game, and playing it blind drives home that uniqueness. It has a strange, dreamlike feeling that permeates every beautifully-drawn screen, and all the characters are lovable and very "timeless" in their personas. Plus, a lot of side-stories are really heavy with the feelz. Coupled with some interesting and customizable combat, it's a really enjoyable game to play.
