Need some help..

>Just instant booked a room on airbnb.
>Paid with mastercard
>Host messages me that room is not available anymore and she forgot to mark it as such
>Asks me to cancel reservation myself
>Strict cancelaton policy

WTF am I supposed to do?

I'm not familiar with AirBnB but she fucked up, so she should fix it. Can't she cancel it herself?
>>
>>1286323
She does not want to.. says she needs to call to AirBnB US via phone and it's not worth it..

She says she will refund me her payment if I cancel, but not AirBnB fee.

I guess I can't make her cancel it. Only report her it seems..

It was last minute booking and now instead of enjoying vacation I need to deal with this. That's what bothers me the most.
>>
>>1286328
Then tell her to refund you or you'll report her to airbnb. Yell if you have to, "I don't want to" isn't an excuse

What's the best card for getting air miles? I know there are all kinds of tricks with transferring points into miles across airlines, but what's a simple good card? I plan on spending less than $2,000 a year traveling but want to get as many points as possible.
23 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1286256
Miles are only worth if if you actually spend a lot of money traveling as the actual status miles that will give you perks/multiplier come 100% from flights. So the card miles just supplement your mile income for free flights/upgrades at a pretty low rate
>1 mile for every $2 you spent or even less

You would be better off with a card that offers you something like 2-5% cash back on all transactions.
>>
>>1286262
Thank you, that makes sense. How much do you guess you need to spend before the multiplier is worth it?
>>
>>1286256
I got a sapphire preferred in February and i have accumulated $1200 in travel rewards since then. Although they number is overstated because most of the points came from sign-up bonuses and shit.

Has anyone here done it and how did you go about doing it?

I have always had this feeling, and I discovered this some time a while ago on /wiz/ and I decided that I would start physically training myself to do it. I want to eventually go on a nomad trip on china visiting shrines. Is this a good idea?

As in without a budget, designated place to stay, no real plan, sort of just going where the wanderlust takes you. They're called dirty kids here, but I'm not sure I wanted that image tied to me/not sure if it's just a regional title.

Where have you been doing this/how have your camping experiences been? I
>>
>>1285883
traveling without a budget is inadvisable, especially for those on a tight budget.
I keep a budget so I can look back on a week and see what caused me to over-spend.

having no real plan is also inadvisable, planning in advance takes the stress out of travel.
when I was wandering aimlessly I lost half the time I had stumbling around, it's a heavily romantisized notion.
and a lack of planning is also going to cost you money
for instance I took two night busses, had a shower in a bucket in a park, ate bread for two days and only afterwards discovered I could have just got a flight for the same price if I had booked more than a week or two in advance.

"camping" is a funny one.
I found real camping at camp sites to be expensive and a waste of everyones time. the sites are unusally in less valuable land ei. away from rivers etc and cost as much as a hostel if you are solo.
"wild camping" was cool, but not something to undertake lightly. There is a very serious risk of crime, especially in more developed countries; traveling solo it may well be an undue risk.
It only took me getting robbed once when trying to find somewhere to sleep for me to loose all the money I had saved previously.

couchsurfing, finding random people to put you up, taking night busses are all much better options.
a combination of sleeping drugs (don't overdo it) and night trains/busses can save you so much

in regional areas asking the permission of farmers etc worked well, anyone with enough land to feel safe.
but I found frequently in asia these attempts were met most often with confusion and hostility.
I was set up in what looked like jungle, but turned out to be "claimed" cland, some farmer turns up thinking I'm going to take his land, is confused that I'm white and unsure what I'm doing, points me to town thinking I'm lost.
happened a few times

Me and my friend are planning a road trip from Toronto, Ontario to Nevada to see the Grand Canyon. It's about a 35 hour drive and gas isn't a problem.

I have a new Mazda 3. I was just wondering if this kind of car would be suitable in Nevada. I just don't know what to expect and if there's a lot of off roading over there.
13 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Err, plenty of off roading if you want to....
But the roads to both canyon rims are paved. At least to the big views and visitor centers. There are tons of forest service roads out there that go right up to the rim, all of them dirt or gravel.
For regular road use I see no problem with the Mazda 3, especially if it's new. Overheating is the biggest danger for a car out there.
Any reason for going all the way to Nevada? Grand Canyon proper is in Arizona. North rim is higher elevation and forested, south rim is classic desert.

We just felt like sight seeing all the Area 51 attractions and stopping by and seeing all the attractions on the way to the destination. We'll be going through plenty of states so there's going to be a lot to see.

Any tips on making sure your car doesn't overheat out there?
>>
>>1285822
With a modern car you shouldn't have any trouble with overheating. It's only really a problem on steep uphill grades in older, underpowered, or very heavy vehicles.

Hi guys,
a friend of mine and I (both germans) are traveling to Oslo for a camping trip. We had the idea of bringing a bottle of wodka each and selling them since the alcohol is pretty expensive and we could use a bit of cash. Is it legal? How should we do it and where is the best place? and most important: how much should we charge?

>how much should we charge?
I'd say about 60-70% of price in Vinmonopolet.

I know I should make this question in the Japan General thread, but everytime I post there I get no response, so I'm sick as fuck of it.

Is there any website or smartphone app that Japanese people use when they need a free lift? Something like BlaBlaCar, for example? And is hitchhiking a thing at all in Japan? Thank you in advance.

What country are you in? One of the first things I learned on my first (and only) trip abroad was that I don't appreciate my homeland enough. If you have a car (or atleast access to one) and some friends take them on a road trip. Sleep at campgrounds and plan ahead for meals to save money.

Of course I also am able to subsist on terrible conditions if the experience in the area is worth it.

>P.S. Saw Shwedagon Pagoda in person, neat but filthy
>>

US (OR more specifically). Yea my friends and I travel around oregon a lot (mostly to areas with a large body of water to swim OR waterfalls). Though it is fun, I want to experience different cultures/traditions/religions(?). Plus my friends are becoming less and less reliable for trips as they're going through their own troubles.
Also, dude that is awesome that you got to see Shwedagon Pagoda. Did you go get the chance to go inside?

*Info on prostitution*
Please try to refrain from asking questions about prostitution.
Japan's sex industry is almost completely inaccessible to foreigners who do not speak Japanese.
What is available can generally be found in the following links

*Note about the JR Pass*
Many people ask about whether or not the JR Rail Pass is worth it. It depends on your itinerary.

Plug your itinerary into Hyperdia to determine ticket costs, then compare to the below JR Pass options:
>7 day Pass: 29,110Â¥
>14 day Pass: 46,390Â¥
>21 day Pass: 59,350Â¥

Please check the /trv/ sticky before asking questions. It's filled with links to great resources, many of them specific to Japan travel.

If I'm staying for a month, do I need to purchase multiple JR Passes (21 days + 14) or can I hang on to the 21 day and re-activate it at the end of its period?

Airserve's instruction is to purchase the pass BEFORE I arrive and receive an exchange voucher in the mail. Is this actually necessary? Can I not just purchase directly from the JR office in-person?
>>
Hey everyone, question: has anyone ever booked tickets/a tour through Viator? It's this site that I guess is affiliated with Trip Advisor?

My girlfriend and I want to go to the Sumo tournament next month. We tried booking through the official website as soon as tickets became available but it was like the latest Yeezy or Supreme drop or something. The site was overwhelmed with traffic and then all the tickets were sold.

Then I found Viator, and it looks like they have tickets but you do have to go as part of a tour group and stop at the sumo museum first and then go to Ryogoku together. I'm okay with this.

The tickets are reasonably priced and given how fast the initial release sold almost seems to good to be true.

Any experience buying or doing some kind of tour with them? Thanks.
>>
>>1284642

The JR Pass is is used for one range of dates. So a 21 day pass is good for the 21 days after the first day of use (you select what day that is at the JR Pass office). If you're there for more than 21 days, try and arrange your travel so you have some slack time where you don't need the pass. i.e., 7 days in Tokyo at the start, etc.

You can buy the pass in Japan, but it's more expensive by 10-20%. It's very easy to purchase the pass and they ship it via Fedex next-day air.

Hey guys, I'm planning on taking a long trip in eastern Asia soon (Japan, Korea, China), but all my friends can't go with me so I guess it'll be a solo trip.
Any tips for going abroad solo?
Should I look for other people while there to travel with? What's the best way to do that?
And what's the easies/safest way to entertain myself and find local/foreign friends?
Any other general tips?

I'm taking my girlfriend to California in late October and wanted to know what it's like there in the fall. I have never been to California, we are gonna spend a few days on the beaches in LA and in San Francisco. What is the weather like in the fall there? I would also like to camp on the beach at least a couple nights, where would be a good spot to do that? And I know there is a ton of stuff to do in California but I'd like any outside the box ideas for stuff to do in LA and SF.

I currently live in San Diego, so San Fran is probably colder than here... but in my experience California has sort of unpredictable heat. It hit almost 90 where I live in October (that was unusual), but can drop to about 50 at night. A safe bet would probably be around an average of 65-80 degrees. I almost never need more than a sweat shirt. It's probably good for sleeping on the beach.

If you do want to stray a little bit from LA, I do love it here in San Diego... less commotion than LA I think. Good Mexican food (California burrito with carne asada, cheese, and french fries = GOAT). Nice beaches. La Jolla and Ocean Beach are great places to bring friends and grill wieners on the sand or burn tons of firewood.

It also has some really awesome views. This pic isn't mine, but its from road I drive on once and a while one Mount Soledad.

We will be in LA for two days and San Diego for three and we have no plans but to explore both cities. Also could you recommend good areas to get hotels or airbnbs?

So, let me begin by saying that I am American (more particularly an Ohioan) and I'm unhappy here. As lovely as other countries are, immigration is a lengthy, difficult process that only the most wealthy, talented and desired, and/or powerful people glide through effortlessly. I'm not a member of the transnational financial class. So, in other words, I wanted to ask advice about other states and places to live in America, although I am perhaps not entirely disinclined from one day leaving America. In fact, I almost did after high school as I had been admitted to McGill. I still kick myself for not having gone.

Do not despair. I'm not by any means motivated to move to the Pacific Northwest, albeit once upon a time I had a job offer in Bellingham, WA. I wanted to ask about the State of Minnesota and I hope to receive recommendations about other states and cities if other anons were so inclined. To put it figuratively, I'm trying to hit an erratically moving target blowing in the wind while moving in the opposite direction on a speeding train and the target is at such a great distance I have to account for the Coriolis effect, weather, barometric pressure, etc. I need to account for change.

I wish I had saved the cap, but a while ago I mentioned that I moved back to OH from TX in a thread on one of the boards I frequent on 4chan, and an anon said "sadder words were never written." While I do not echo that thought, it is not without its merit.

I won't indulge in the worst carte blanche shitposting about Austin, e.g. technoelitism, income disparity, rampant mentally ill homeless population, its poor infrastructure, etc. This isn't a thread about ethnocentrism or elitism, partisan sentiment and civic pride are certainly welcome.

Feel free to ask about Austin, or other places I have lived like Maryland, New York, D.C., Virginia, etc. for those of you considering moving. If you are in similar circumstances, feel free to ask/offer advice, post your story, or comment.

Pardon the early bump, but I think some background is necessary. Like I said, I had the opportunity to attend McGill in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, but I decided to attend a university in Ohio that offered me generous scholarship money as my parents basically told me that if I wanted to attend post-secondary schooling that the financial burden was mine.

I majored in English, classics, and history because I wanted to teach k-12, but particularly 7-12. I won't ask you to reserve comment, but I like to think schooling in America once had an esteemed reputation or at least a proud tradition, but now I really hesitate to go down that road. Along the way, I graduated and landed a job in Bellingham, WA for a software company as a translator that I ultimately declined due to familial issues, but I also kick myself for this.

Ultimately, some family relocated to Austin, TX and I decided to pal around and join them. I landed a job as a marketer at a credit union. I ended up working at a university in Austin. I could have stayed, but ultimately I decided to move back to Ohio after the family members I came with moved to Florida.

Ohio was the reset button option. I think it's a great place for me to figure stuff out. In other words it serves to account for the changes in my life and elsewhere as I plot the next move. But it is not without its challenges. Cincinnati, like most of the state and, really the geographic region, is in the grips of a pretty nasty heroin epidemic. The economy is not great, and cannot hold a candle to Austin certainly. That's not to say that Austin did not have its issues with employment. I'll not make outrageous claims about Ohio that I have heard such as it's worse now economically then it was in 2007-2008, but admittedly as aforementioned things are not great. Most of all though, there's too much history here. Too many memories...not all good ones. These roads are too well trodden for me to want to stick around. My hope is to find the right place.

>Are you happy where you live?
Fuck no. I live in a suburb of Mexico City, and every day I grow more and more tired of this shithole. I hate the city and its people, and all kinds of bad news that seem to flourish in this land. That's why every penny I make goes towards traveling and maybe someday settling abroad.

Now, I didn't read that wall of text of yours, but my top 3 favorite American cities for personal reasons are these:

>NYC, especially Brooklyn
>Berkeley
>Seattle

If I could I'd move there. I love those places for various reasons.
