You got my skeleton cyborgs v. sci-fi spidergirls battle and my e-mail, right?

Hey /toy/. I'm trying to learn polymer clay sculpting with the eventual plan to be skilled enough to make vaguely recognizable tabletop miniatures at 1:32 scale. I have a beginner-level understanding of what to do, a decent set of beginner's tools a ton of Sculpey products and pastels/paints/glosses but I feel like I'm missing something.
What are some tricks or homemade tools you learned about that have helped you add detail, remove blemishes or otherwise make the hobby easier? Thank you all for any advice you can give.
I'd like to do a bit more detail than pic related but not realism or anything. I know my limits. It's just the first relevant pic I could find in Google images.

Sculpting and life drawing classes at your local community college, or sometimes local art studios will do workshops if you live in a large enough city. Going to conventions is a good place to network and talk shop with artists. Otherwise, prepare your anus for 2-4 years of daily practice before you produce anything not super cringe worthy. You will either give up when you realize what you're doing is actually going to take a lot of hard work, or you will persevere and become a greatly under appreciated niche artist. This will not be profitable. Only try if you're really really dedicated and passionate about being an artist, othwise you're just wasting time
>>
>>5973980
Thanks. Believe me, I'm more than autistic enough to stick to this sort of thing. I'll keep an eye out for conventions here and in neighboring states.
Does anyone know of any active polymer clay communities? The best I can find is a subreddit and that gets like a post a day. Surely I'm missing something.

A simple loop tool made with a bent, somewhat thick, steel wire glued to a pen body is what I use the most.

Using turpentine or a regular paint solvent with a soft brush geta rids of fingerprints and imperfections and smooths the clay.

I'll try finding useful pages I had saved tomorrow.

Exactly the same as it looked back in 1997, because I didn't buy anything Power Rangers related since then.

This will probably change next year with the release of pic related.

I have my flip heads somewhere in my closet. That's about it.. Maybe a tigerzord somewhere at my parents house
>>
My collection is decent but I'm looking to sell it..

I have a shitload of figuart red rangers because I wanted a "forever red" display and now I'm left with not only an incomplete line but no place to put them so I wasted a bunch of fucking money on those and I doubt most of them are even popular int he after market.

I also have all the MMPR/Zyu figuarts and I think I'll sell them all except Green Ranger

I was happy with the SRC Megazord and the legacy Megazord and had the displayed but now they look like shit after I saw the SoC one so I'm thinking of selling both and pay the difference to upgrade.

Are any of these worth anything or have they lost most of their value?

How come collector's figures/figures aimed at older people ship with major problems like poor sculpt, bad paint, poor articulation, or articulation that exists but is hindered by adjacent sculpt, or that can't hold their accessories as intended, or that can't even stand up, etc.

Surely the people in charge of designing these things are enthusiasts themselves and know what they would want in a figure, right? I don't think it's as simple as cutting corners for production costs when the fundamental design of the figure is so bad.

Might we have any industry people in here who could shed some light on how these ostensible design oversights make it through Quality Assurance?

>pic isn't entirely related

Bad figure/disappointment general?

Basically, "collector's toys" became a thing before high quality toys where a thing. The earliest toys that collectors sought where just ordinary children's toys. Stuff like GI Joe, or star Wars. They collected these because they where attached to a brand they liked, or held nostalgic attachment. Even now you have a lot of toy collectors that focus on toys that have historical precedent, rather than quality.
The big American toy companies are very reluctant to target any products exclusively to adults, and alot of them still operate with the idea that adult collectors will just collect toys by virtue of being the merchandise for a franchise, rather than being high quality. and to an extant, that is true. That's why you have people who wait for Force Friday and buy a ton of retail StarWars toys but don't touch Hot toys or the like. The avenues to sell toys exclusively to collectors, like comic shops and even the internet, are far less lucrative compared to retail.

That's why Mattel will never make Collector's Barbies that are Hot toys quality, for example. They expect their collectors to buy a toy. Slightly higher quality than a regular toy, but still a toy. This is conjecture, but I think a lot of the heads of these companies believe that if people where buying older figures for hundreds of dollars; things like 5POA Star wars figures, they don't see why collector's wouldn't still want the same thing. They probably think most of them will be kept in box anyway, so why bother waisting recourses on better sculpting or more articulation?

Things like that Batman in your OP pic are meant to appeal to children, even if they are meant to be collector's toys. For hasbro and Mattel, a "collector's toy" still has to be playable with kids, and appeal to them, because they're being stocked in the same place as the other kid's toys.
>>
>>5971809
This is actually a pretty good explanation.
>>
>>5971809
So basically: middle of the road figures like McFarlane, for example, are allowed to ship with whatever glaring flaws they may have because
A)They're made for kids with an 8 to 12+ labeling so the quality doesn't really matter and
B)Companies know collectors will buy that shit anyway because they're interested in the franchise and they really can't find anything better because this particular type of product satisfies the market?

You know, when they first started talking about 3D Printers, my immediate thought was
>hey, I could make action figures with that!
Cases like pic related just reinforce that fantasy.

I guess there's little room for craft in mass market.

They always prioritized their FF figures above everything else. It's why you'll find that most people keep their FF Play Arts and PAKs, because they're among the few properties that Square Enix gives enough of a shit about to actually do properly (most of the time anyway).

Hey /toy/, I was hoping you guys could help me find out what this figure is and where I can get a complete version of him.

I found him abandoned outside back in 2001 and unfortunately his leg was lost at a jewel osco, so I'm hoping to get a more complete version to display.
I remember someone mentioned that he might have come with a big vehicle or something.

So, Amazon gift card anon from the last thread who said he was thinking about preordering the Nozomi Figma; I hadn't ordered it yet and went down to Little Tokyo for Akibafest and managed to get 1 of only 4 that were somehow in possession of the Jungle store down there (gf and another friend snagged 2 more). Now have my first Figma and and happy as fuck.

Moral of the story: don't let anyone tell you that procrastination is a bad thing.
