This is even worse when you're the DM and a friend wants in on your game. You allow it thinking it will be cool to get a friend interested in the hobby, only for that friend to be the piece of shit that all your players hate, who shows no signs of ever getting better or treating the campaign with any more respect than a videogame.

Bonus points if he keeps bringing up "Why are you all so serious, it's a fucking GAME" as a defence.

Double Bonus Points if you're roomates with the asshole and kicking him out of the game means you have to hear bitching about it every day for weeks.

Assuming armor was available that greatly enhanced strength and speed, and we had access to energy/nanofilament/power melee weapons, what circumstances might they realistically be used in when other people still have guns?

Something like Assault Marines in 40k? Or as a secondary CQC weapon with some extra pzazz like in Destiny?

During riots. In actual military engagements the other guys will also have bigger guns so a shield would just mostly slow you down and not let you grab an even bigger gun.

The setting itself is Metropolis, a typical extra-large New York sandbox rip-off. Even though it’s all the same setting you can pick Gestation, the Golden Age or Worthless Opponent as your scenario, but it won’t mean much more than a difference in starting points. Canon characters – Contessa, Skitter, Eidolon, Glaistig Uaine, etc – don’t exist in Metropolis. Every organisation mentioned in the CYOA still exists, but with none of the canon characters in it and they are based out of Metropolis. The Protectorate and the Wards still exist, as does the PRT. The Guild is not Canadian. The Undersiders are pre-Taylor heisters. The ABB and E88 are locked in a turf war and the Merchants sell drugs to homeless people. S9 exists and you can be in it, but you’ll probably end up with a kill order on you.

Cauldron still exists and is still a secret organisation that wants to manufacture more parahumans and take control of as many parahuman organisations as possible in preparation for fighting the Entities. Conspirators are active members of Cauldron and still get access to those sweet, sweet Cauldron powers. If you have a dead shard and you aren’t a case 53, you either stole from Cauldron or secretly work for them. If you work for them, your job is to get into a position of power within your organisation to further cauldron’s reach. If you stole from them expect Conspirators to hunt you down – or heroes working for Cauldron.

The Birdcage exists. It is not in Metropolis, and unless stated is exactly the same as in canon – a giant guardless prison run by AIs with no way out. If you are a villain and you get caught three times or you get caught after doing something horrific you end up here til it’s time to fight the entities.

A few final notes:

Case 53 flaw x1 = you are a human with a few extra parts, like elf ears, feathers in your hair, weird pupils/irises/sclera, extra fingers etc. Think Canary from canon.

Case 53 Flaw x2 = you are still recognisably humanoid, but not as a “human”. Think Gully or Weld from canon – you genuinely look like a monster and ordinary humans might be nervous or quick to judge you.

Case 53 x3 = you are no longer recognisable as human. Think Garotte or Mantellum from canon. People who see you will think you’re a monster and may run screaming from you.

Having a kill order on you means you did something truly horrific or awful, or have repeatedly shown yourself to be too dangerous to be safely apprehended by the authorities. In short, you’ve killed people and as a result there's a fuckhueg bounty on you, which anyone - from heroes to sinister villains to rule-breaking vigilantes to every yahoo with a gun - can collect on, with no questions asked an no attempts to arrest them. They just stroll into Protectorate HQ, drop off your severed head, get given their money and walk out, even if they're a wanted felon.

It has potential but they'll need to change a lot of thing for that.
Units have SC2 level of durability while Elites have WC3 heroes level of power.
SM current meta is basically spamming scout and assault marines, tacticals are currently the worst unit of the game and SM the weakest faction.
Ork are perfect though and they announced their intention of adding a Last Stand mode.

Depends on how much you liked the previous games. People who loved DoW 2 hate it, people who loved DoW 1 go either way.

I personally think it's pretty good, the Elite system opened up a lot of units that we would have never seen in a video game otherwise. Kind of disappointed by the lack of factions, but they'll obviously keep adding more in expansions. Units are too fragile, you can lose an army if you're not paying attention.

I think it will get better after a few game balancing patched.

And anyone who says it's a MOBA is fucking retarded.

Honestly, I think people who complain about Critical Role watchers are a little obnoxious. It's not as bad as they say it is, just a little loose with the rules sometimes. That's required for D20 games at this point.

Does it give a false idea of what every game is like? I'd say most roleplaying shows do that, and it might be easier to just set rules and paramaters at the outset, rather than expecting new players to understand unspoken rules easily.

That's just my view on the situation.

You should expect to clarify that a few houserules from Critical Role (namely a couple carryovers from 3.PF, resurrection rules, and Matt Mercer homebrew classes) will likely not be featured in your game.

Consider pointing out to him that a single 'check for traps' roll doesn't necessarily represent a single check, but rather a process that takes time, with the roll determining the general outcome of his understanding. Also have him consider that his character doesn't know he failed a trap-check test, so if he's paranoid to double-check then he should do so, even if he succeeds.

As for discouraging it from a social standpoint? I'm not sure, if he really doesn't want to stop it and you've pointed out reasons why it doesn't make any sense for his character or the game then he's simply strayed into That Guy territory, I can only recommend you give him the benefit of the doubt and explain why he shouldn't be doing it.

Its more the dickery that gets me. How many a great warrior or Kind Leader could have been saved when what they should have been doing is committing horrific atrocities.

In a Pragmatic sense, yeah this was a good idea. At least he will now have amazing intel on Cryx, who would have experienced the first role reversal in history.
