If you're ok going a bit higher fantasy with it you could always have a situation where different parts of the world/history are being dragged together for some reason.

If not then just do some fiddling with the backgrounds so that they're each from somewhere analogous to their historical setting but a bit more consistent with each other.

As for the question, check Disney Villains Victorious for inspiration. They also kind of solved the problem of merging all movie worlds into a single one there, despite their tchnological differences.

I've got a question regarding Planescape Torment; I haven't played the PnP campaign, but loved the computer game, so what I'm asking is, is the cRPG faithful to the original, and how far does it go to emulate the PnP version?

if a bioship landed, it would take the form of a 150 minute thriller, where humanity is repeatedly stated to be doomed, and only extreme action from the protagonists can stop the bugs

It'd be impossible. Nid hiveships are fuckhuge, for one. They're tough enough to duke it out with all the other faction ships. Nids have plasma weaponry, beasties that survive super nukes, they terraform the planet into their own personal paradise that is coincidentally toxic hell for everyone else, they convert food into more troops at an alarmingly efficient rate.

Just imagine what they'd do once they made it to an ocean. All it'd take is once spore pod. We'd be fucked.

Couldn't we just nuke their bioships in orbit before they land? We have several months at least before they even reach orbit. Any few that make it through would be swiftly dealt with by fighter jets and spec ops

No, early leads tend to indicate who's going to get beaten like a two-foot tall nerd in high school with benjamins for lunch money. The second person to really develop usually wins, with the poor threat assessment in my group leaning towards "never re-assess"

Pretty much this.
Combining it with the generally competitive atmosphere and it really does boil down to "Whoever spends the most money wins".

The mechanics aren't bad, so as something like a deck-building game it might have been alright, but as a boosters-and-singles game it's more a money sink than anything else.

As for fidget spinners, it's a fad that acknowledges that kids have ADHD, and has exploded in popularity as a result.
