>The thermal cannon is utterly lethal now. Heavy D3, Strength 9, Ap -4 and D6 Damage, rolling 2D6 and taking the highest when in half range, will leave many targets as nothing more than smoking craters with a single volley. If that weren’t enough, the cannon gets D6 shots vs units with 5 or more models.

Is it d3 shots that do d6 damage each?
>>

1 hit has a chance to do 6 wounds, im ok with that. some smart guy figure out the average wounds for d3 d6

Life in a fallen and vestigial imperium, ruled by an immortal sovereign and rife with xenophobia, can't be easy or nice. It's a grim and dark world to live in and offers no escape to a man, not even within his mind.

No wonder the brits would seek solace from a happier world, imaginary as it might be.

Simple question, for class-based games.

How would you make a party where all the characters are the same class? What unique challenges might this bring?

Entire team of rogues.

Each has a particular specialty. You have a face, a safecracker, an infiltrator, and a brute. Throw in a counterfeit mage for fun.

Entire campaign is a heist movie.

I need any and all advice involving this.

I'm planning on doing a session in D&D 5e (it's the system everyone is most comfortable with), and I want it to have elements like the ones in John Carpenters Apocalypse Trilogy since that was the main inspiration for wanting to do this.

How do I make the atmosphere of the game creepy and tense? Is there any way to capture some of the more grotesque aspects of these elder gods leaking into our world given I can't exactly present the practical effects they used in those movies?

Would anybody recommend against having other elder beings try and stop the main antagonist of the campaign? The way I set them up, these beings were created as ensigns for an even higher power, and ended up infighting, trapping bbeg in the essence of nightmares. Should I nix this aspect and have it just be end of days horror show?

Could starting off as a plain slow campaign but then ramping it up into a siege game where they're trying to not have the town break down work?

Anything helps, guys. Thanks.

regardibg the aesthetic i'd say that presenting the entirety of their appearance too casually would harm the theme of horror.
make it so that they will be hidden by shadows and merely give implications to their physique.
and at this point, "zombie alien blob monster" becomes a bit generic. "the thing" however cultivated the use of a single kind of horror monster with amorphous shape pretty well. if you plan on putting in different eldritch things, think about different design philosophies

Uhg.

Shitposting aside, verbage is a huge deal. Blood isn't red, it's carmine. The bone didn't break, it splintered. The flesh wasn't cut it was rent.

The more descriptive and bold your language is, the greater sense of importance you can impart upon a creature or situation. Nonvisual horror is all about letting the viewer fill in the blanks with their own worst fears, because the human mind is a scary place. Be descriptive, but not TOO descriptive. Describe sensory input, and allow the mental image to form in their mind independently. You guide them into spooking themselves

Well first of all, try to keep the presence of the actual abominations to a minimum. There's no need to have them on screen as the stakes should be high eough with just the abominations about.

Also, as media like Eternal Darkness, Hellboy and At The Mountains Of Madness have thought us, they can be in conflict and that will work fine but that doesn't mean they are sympathetic to the heroes. They can use them as pawns or disregard them but they should never be allies, you know? And just make sure they don't come across as human either.

Also, having the abominations affect the world/landscape/minds/laws of physics differently will make it more interesting.

Yes. It's also objectively the best chess opening. No hyperbole: the only reason not to play it is if you think there's a small chance that a sub-optimal opening would catch your opponent off-guard.

Does anyone have a great, beginner friendly DIY tutorial for a similar two way dice tower? I don't necessarily need the wings, mostly just the tower, but I want it from wood. But I worked only little with wood, so I need detailed instructions. And I have problem with the tech words as I'm not murican.

Lorewise normal marines are not "upgraded" to Primaris Marines. Primaris Marines are produced completely separately from regular marines, the details of their production is still unknown.

>I understand that word caps are what they are.
It's funny, because one of the first things I noticed was an entire sentence repeated.
>The maximum size of your overall SP pool is reduced by your accumulated LSP. The maximum size of your overall SP pool is reduced by your accumulated LSP.

Something I would like clarification on is this:
>When you gain LSP, you also lose SP equal to the total amount lost!
Let's use the article's example: 10 SP, lost 5, so you gain 1 LSP. Since I gained LSP, I now lose SP equal to the amount of SP I lost to gain the LSP, right? Which would be 5. And since my SP is 10, each multiple is SP/2, or 5. 5 to 0 is another multiple, so I gain another LSP, lose more SP, repeat until I'm insane? Or does it just happen once?

What would be a fair price for Unusual Background (Can train targeted attacks up to full skill)?

I feel that since the biggest penalty you get normally after TA is -5 (for chinks in non-torso armour), and since buying +5 to one skill would cost 15 points more than raising one TA technique by the same amount, 15 points would be the right price.
>>

On one hand, I'm very curious as well and would like to help figure it out. On the other, that fucking map causes my potato to take ages to actually load the PDF.

I noticed the repeated sentence as well, hence my griping about better editing.

How integral to the identity of the Ranger class is the use of a small repertoire of magic?

This is a discussion of general thematics and my query is being asked without the context of any specific system, but in consideration of the ranger as a playable class, and not of characters from fiction conforming to the archetype - though I'm aware of how those spheres may intersect.

Additionally, what do you consider the key elements of the identity of the Ranger in fantasy RPGs? What traits are indispensable to the overall identity of the ranger? What traits must he possess to not simply be an archer or more wilderness-inclined rogue?

The recent developments in the lore of 40k are indicative of a huge tonal shift. The Imperium’s ignorant struggle has been the defining feature of the story since RT and while “advancing” the plot is probably something necessary to breathe new life into the game and community, I think we’re right to question the substance and implication of this new direction.
So far, things are what we might expect – the fluff is a little less internally consistent when told at this macro scale – and we are seeing things moving at the speed of “plot.” The biggest problem here in my opinion is the reintroduction of a bevy of characters that have had firsthand experience of the Imperium that was. It doesn’t help that it reinforces the self-inflicted meme of Spiritual Liege shit that has plagued us for a few editions now. Rouboute is back and he’s talking to the emperor. This itself doesn’t need to be frustrating.
The imperium is apparently more on the brink in this book than at any other point in the setting’s history. The Cicatrix Maledictum has apparently thrown a huge swathe of worlds into absolute turmoil and all-out war. There are gems of interesting content – the Blood Angels are suffering a similar fate to their Successors the Lamenters, their backs are truly against the wall. There is the potential of an Imperial Crusade into the Eye to reclaim the fragments of Cadian forces around the sector. But we also have the Super-Super Space Special Marines, who are beautiful models, yet clumsy and ham-fistedly shoved into the fluff with seemingly no deficit. It would be brave of GW to write these new soldiers in the shades of gray we’ve come to expect but I have my doubts that will be the case.
Ultimately I think we’re heading toward a noblebright future. This doesn’t have to be a bad thing – but it feels forced and that does feel bad.
What are your thoughts on this transition?

>The imperium is apparently more on the brink in this book than at any other point in the setting’s history. The Cicatrix Maledictum has apparently thrown a huge swathe of worlds into absolute turmoil and all-out war.
All Imperial worlds are touched by war now, but on the other hand the Imperium is more strongly united than it's ever been in the post-Primarchs era, a legend has been brought back to life to lead the Imperium (and he even talked with papa emprah), the Imperium is on a general offensive for the first time since the Horus Heresy, Chads have emerged to replace obsolete manlets, there is an "uneasy" friendship with the Eldar, and papa Smurf's crusade is winning everything.
I don't know if it'll go noblebright, but it's not grim darkness by any stretch right now despite the B-B-B-BUT MUH RIP OF TERROR narrative.
It sucks.
>>
>>53310764

If anything, it won't become much more noblebright than how things were during GC. Boost to optimism sure, but you can't forget how bad Chaos, Tyranids, Necrons and Tau are starting to knock on the door.
