I found some land outside the city but the only plots that have cable and internet hookups are part of hoa custom build communities. I found out about fixed wireless internet. Will this kind of internet be good enough for 2 people using 4chan/ youtube/ skype/ netflix? The land I am interested in is flat and cleared.

What is the deal with this style of boots? Good for light hiking and day to day wear?

my redbacks are great all day on pavement, terrible for hiking-soft sole is perfect for absorbing impact, but has no traction in mud or snow.

They're ok. Used to work as a fencer (farms). After 10 hours of walking on rough, sometimes soft surfaces you feel the lack of ankle support.

Lace uo boots are definitely better. Oliver makes great work boots in that style if you're looking for a good brand.

Had a pair that lasted for 1 year of fencing and then 5 months working as a boilermaker. Would of lasted longer but they ended up getting burnt due to my stupidity

Hey Fellas, so I've recently gotten out of the military and have been back home for a little over a month.

I spent a good time of my enlistment out at sea and I'm starting to miss being out there, any sailors, fishermen or Merchant Marines on here?

Whats the best way for me to get back out at sea without reenlisting?

I'm not so sure if this belongs on this board but I didn't see any threads about it and I figured being at sea was pretty /out/.

Dunno if there are many seamens here, but /n/ has a fairly active maritime general. As well as like sailboat and live aboard threads.

Personally it's always been a dream of mine to live on a (sail)boat and just cruise around the world doing whatever I please. Considered the merchant marines too, but haven't acted on it yet...
>>
>>920294
Have you ever been to sea?

There's nothing like it in the world, I'd lived in the deserts my whole life and spent sometime /out/ there but being innaship was great.

Just seeing the vast oceans and visiting far and exotic places, I want to get out there again since I'm not even that settled in at home.
>>
My time to shine!

Merchant mariner here, you have pretty much 2 options.

One would be to look into the various unions for un-licensed (ie deckhands, cooks, engine utility man) mariners, such as Seafarers International Union, and some others. Through these you can start paying dues and attending the courses they offer to become qualified to sail onboard commercial ships.

Second option, which is great for a veteran such as yourself, is to apply and work for Military Sealft Command. You may already know if it, but it is a government company that employs civilians to man and sail Navy supply ships (Navy owned, federal civilian manned) to basically supply the Navy fleets around the world with fuel, food, ammo etc.

A couple different career routes to take in both these options. First, it's un-licensed versus licensed. To be an engineer or a deck officer, you can either go through a maritime academy then begin sailing as an officer which would be a good use of a GI Bill if you have it.

Second route is to start as an unlicensed lower ranking position and work your way up by spending time at sea collecting the sea time and qualifications

MSC is, in my opinion, the best choice, especially if you want to get out to sea ASAP.

I sail for MSC. Went through a maritime academy, got my degree and license, and sail now sail for MSC.

I've been all over the world in just a handful of years, wouldn't want to be doing anything else.

Anyway, feel free to ask anything,

I sweat like a fucker so I sleep on a pad with the top half open and my legs tucked in the bag. This is good down to like 35° then I close up the bag keep the hood open and open the bottom zipper.
Synthetic isn't bad for drying if you sweat a lot but definitely not as warm as down

Is Archery /k/ or /out/? If the latter, what's a good starting bow?

I bet she gives amazing foot.
>>
>>919885
Depends upon what u wish 2 do with it. But S we all know /k/ is gay so let's say it's out, it is if you do /trad/ in any case.

What sort of archery do u want 2 do? Fag Olympic faggotry? Fag compound faggortry? Laggy crossbow faggotry? Just use a rifle fag.

Traditional bare bow recurve or longbow? They all say the sage is good but I think that is just idiots that see it recommended and so they recommend it.Not that the sage is a bad bow (in TD, one piece, or LB form) but it is nothing to write home about. Basically any major company's bows are good enough, get what you want. Sage or whatever is fine. If you're just starting out you'll want somethingg around 30lbs, more and you'll wear yourself out and not be able to hold for aim and whatnot. Also korean/turkish/chinese/persian/etc bows are cool with thumb release but not nipnap map fag bows, they r shit worst bows ever but wtf all other asian got it right.

So get a whatever brand or sort of bow u want recurve or longbow, around 30 lbs and arrows to suit an shoot and learn. But determine eye dominance, it is more important than handedness in the realm of archery. If you're left eye dominate you'll want a left handed bow. Make a triangle with your fingers and hold it at arms length and center some distant object within. Close each eye in turn and whichever eye keeps object roughly centered that's your dominant eye.

Good lucck and godspeed young man u r the future of us all

It might even cross mix into alternative sports.

Off the top of my head in simplest cut down tl:dr post on first bow:

A recurve takedown. Something that doesnt break the bank. If you got a club or archery shop nearby, they will be more than happy to help you out. Or you can just read a lot online on your optimal draw length and poundage draw weight.
Unless you 110% know you're gonna really get into archery, don't splerg on stuff out the gate, there are plenty of solid beginners stuff. When you do commit, its a rabbit hole, and if you are in love, it wouldn't matter.

If you go compound bow, you will get a bit more leeway in terms of form and distance, since more traditional bows are more punishing on bad form.
Nothing wrong with going compound as your first bow, but if you go deeper into archery and really want to go balls deep, you will need to learn the stuff you "bypassed" from if you went traditional. Not to mention compound bows are much more more tool intensive if you wish to maintain them vs takedown/traditional.

If you're just getting your feet wet just to see if you really want to get in, there are really cheap one-piece bows from reputable makers for $100~ or under. Cheaper takedown recurves may be a bit more expensive than that, but they give you stretch room for higher powered limbs to swap out for if you want some room to grow.

Also, from my experience, engage and participate with others in the archery community. Its a small group and many are very eager to help and give advise to new archers. I've very rarely encountered assholes.

But like firearms, you do have a lot of the same safety guidelines principles on ranges. But one of the biggest things is NEVER DRY FIRE A BOW (unless its some kiddy 10# bow). It's the fastest way to destroy a bow and hurt yourself.

Started seeing some metal detecting videos and it looks like a pretty good hobby to pick up.
How many of you anons partake in this hobby?
What would be a good starter metal detector?
Is it even worth it? I know in some areas it might not be, at least where I live I haven't seen anybody. (Only one guy)
I would love to find some valuable items or valuable metals.

Garret at pro is one that some experienced guys who do this for about 20 years suggested me.... Toog garret ace 250 for testing on couple days and i understood that the depth and metal recognition is weak compared to garret at pro. That said i dont want to spend that much money for finding useless junk 99,9% of the time so i put this idea aside... Would better spend those 500 for fishing kayak or other gear if i had them :D
>>
>>919925
Yea I was looking at that one, looks pretty fucking good honestly.

The Ace 250 is like 300 bucks cheaper, so that is the one I would probably get.

Yea most of the time it is just garbage, but with one good fine the detector can literally pay for its self.

Do you own the one in the picture you posted?
>>
>>919984
I do not own it... A guy that is seriously into detecting gave it to me so i can try it out but he strictly said dont buy that model.
He owns at pro and thats his main detector - the difference is huge.
The main problems with ace 250 is that its depth is tiny and the metal recognition is weak. Ace250 is not moisture proof but at pro is.
At pro have a larger coil so you kinda can searh bigger territories faster - for example beach. The ace250 has a nice coil to find precise location and you can start digging with it for sure just you will have to dig out like 10 times more junk than with at pro if you target gold too.... It shows pooltabs and small foil pieces (from beer cans and cigarette packages) as gold. At pro on the other hand have a huge range of discretion so you can tell pulltabs and shit better from useful stuff

I have a stupid question. How to properly dig a hole?

Many schema for military style trenches and the like show very square cut sides. Every time I start to shovel up dirt however, the banks are continually eroding and it is an endless headache. A square surface seems essentially impossible. Is there a trick to doing this?

The soil type in your area requires a different method of digging a hole and shoring up the sides. Where I live, there's almost nothing but clay. I can dig complex patterns into overhanging walls and it will last until the first hard rain or 5.
