Thinking on it more, could be a serpentine mineral. They're common and can range in hardness, often are quite smooth even almost greasy feeling, and can be an enormous range of colors from black to brown to yellow or green. They generally have that waxy sort of luster too.
Not very easily had to put lot of pressure on it to make that scratch
