you ever just fucking lose it innawoods?
I was hiking this trail. lone star trail. and this hobo sort of attached himself to me. I tried to be nice. he said he was ex army, and so I felt bad for him. I am a vet. but over 3 days it became obvious this asshole has no field skills. and supposedly he was airborne infantry.
eventually I abandoned him by hiding in the scrub. I stalked him for a day.
>>922593
so you might say he made first blood by following you?
>>922605
ever day with him I just wanted it to be over.
NOTHING IS OVER
Buddy of mine and I decided to go innawoods for a few days. Hiked all day and got to a nice spot to make camp. Go to set up the tent he reasured me he packed. Turns out he brought the tent but not the tent poles. Had to make a basha out of it. Still mad.
in what situations exactly, do you use a multitool while innawoods?
i always see people recommending multitools to starting hikers but i don't see any use to them besides garage work..
that's because they don't have any use besides garage work

Grippin feesh
Pliers do come in handy. And then you never know when you might need a screwdriver for some of your equipment. But a real knoife and a pair of needle nose pliers is always better.
>>922308
If you're out with a vehicle like a dirtbike or ATV they come in handy with minor repairs. The pliers also make good tongs when using steel cookware (and of course the can/bottle opener comes in handy around lunch time). I've used mine as a tack-hammer to secure an axe head to it's handle. It's a jack-of-all, master-of-none; not ideal by any means but works well when you're away from your proper tools.
Let's talk saws, particularly crosscut saws used to buck trees. I'm looking to get my hands on one that is able to efficiently cut across the grain of wood, primarily to buck for eventual firewood use.
Was looking at pic related found at:
http://crosscutsaw.com/product/422-one-man-tuttle-tooth-saw-4-5/
Liked
- Tuttle tooth design for effective cutting and clearing of shavings with the rakers
- Long length for use as a two person saw in the rare situations where I'd have someone to help
Unsure
- What quality of steel is used
- Are the teeth already set, sharpened, and otherwise prepared
Has anyone ever bought from them or have other manufacturer recommendations? The company listed above's website is light on information
I understand that vintage saws are generally better quality and I'll go that route in the long run.
Watch some videos about crosscut saws here
https://www.youtube.com/user/wranglerstar
>>921995
I prefer an M tooth pattern, alot easier to sharpen.
I have the smaller model of pic related and even a blunt vintage saw cut better as they are hammered to a taper from the tooth area to reduce binding. Pic related is not and the teeth arent set very well.
Does anyone have any recommendations for getting a hold of a one person crosscut saw?
Do you bring with you spices, oil and where you keep them? Also what kind of oil/fat and what spices are a must for you? Even tho there are some old and slow as fuck food threads i think this discussion deserves its own thread.
My set:
Extra virgin olive oil in a small travel set spray bottle which you can buy in cosmetics shops and some hardware shops.
6 spice rack containing salt, pepper, paprika, curry, chili, garlic. About to change out curry and paprika to rosemary and maybe thime because rosemary for steak and thyme for fish. Hate cheap curry spices they taste like shit anyways
>>921560
What do you need oil for? Are you going to fry something? What kind of meat can you take with you that won't spoil? Unless you're hunting I don't really see the need. Especially if you have that modern coated cookware.
>>922821
There's plenty of ways to preserve meat so it won't spoil while out, obviously. Oil is good for cooking any type of lean meat. Also depending on the oil it could be used for added flavor.
This is all ridiculously common knowledge.
Not to mention you can treat a majority of your tools with oil to prevent rust, so it's good to have in general.
>>921560
who ghee here? best fat for camping
do people care if you dress full tactical while out on the trails
Again? Thete is a thread for this.
>>921157
it's fun to pretend, but pretending to be an operator when you're an adult isn't the sign of a well-adjusted individual.
so, I'm not so sure that people "care" per se, but they definitely think you're a joke.
You clearly want to, so do it already and stop creating these stupid threads or move >>>/k/ where they will circle jerk with you about the advantages of tactical cloth.
How nice is Washington, Oregon, BC and Alaska? Are they the best /out/ places in the world?
If you have foggy OC photos from these places pls post and make an southern europoor happy.
Pendleton, Oregon.
Not very /out/ , but a foggy picture of Oregon nonetheless.
fyi for europeans Oregon has deserts it's very diverse
>>920420
Thanks mate
>Oregon has deserts
Didn't knew that. I was watching The Hunted once again and the rivers and forests are amazing. Portland seems to be liberal as fuck and filled with addicts though.
Best places in North America. Here is some fog.
Budget is 150$ or less any one have good recommendations for a multi tool

I bought one of these just for the hell of it. Now it's the only one I carry.
>Mountain Biking
>Nothing too hard, just some beginner/intermediate trails
>Relax by listening to music while riding
>"We played hide-n-seek in waterfallssss"
>Didn't expect these feels
What music do you listen to while out?
>>919649
Blue grass or outlaw country.
Nothing while I'm hiking. But on the trip to the mountains I usually blast Drive-By Truckers in the car. Then a song will get stuck in my head the whole time I'm /out/ and I sing it constantly to myself. Finally listening to it again when I find my car is one of my favorite feelings.
>not listening to dungeon synth while innawoods or nightwalking
For those who go /out/ alone how do you keep yourself occupied?
Any cool activities?
>>919431
I drink and do regular patrols through the darkness around my campsite to get the jump on any stalkers or ne'er-do-wells trying to sneak up on me. As I get progressively drunker the trigger finger loosens-up more and more. :3
>>919432
I don't really drink too often much less alone, also europoor so no ar15 to play with in the woods.
I'm thinking about woodcrafting but it may be boring.
>>919438
>woodcrafting
This is a good start. Macrame is a good time passer as well. Carve cool and useful things, tie cool and useful things, use both skills together and see what happens. Birdwatching is another of my go-to activities. There's plenty to occupy your mind /out/ there.
Hey /out/. First time here, but I need to know what the comfiest, warmest, underwear you know of is.
Like, undershirts and longjohns.
I figured this would be the best place to ask.

What does /out/ where on there lower body in the summer or winter? There are millions of vests, shirts, and jackets to choose from but I don't know what to look for in pants.
>>919344
This.
I'm asking because I ride a motorcycle in the wintertime, and while my upper body is fine, my lower body gets cold as fuck.
I found myself a set of Hanes 100% polyester fleece silvers. They were a little expensive ($40 apiece but I got them on sale for $20 for each the top and bottom) but they are unbelievable. For cold weather you should really only go for synthetic or wool. These Hanes ones can be tough to find buttfuck they're so good.
I had been using the usual cheep cotton waffle fabric silvers and I swear those made me colder. The tagless polyester fleece ones are absolutely hnngful.
Who wants to join the water protectors in the spring?
There is a lot of hooking up going on up there with hippie SJW chicks and it is going to be a HUGE party in the spring.
Should we have an /out/ camp up there?
nah, i'd rather get to work
>hot chicks
>op pic
No thanks.
>>916681
If you dont believe me there are a ton of hot chicks up there, check instagram.
Hey my /out/ist friends I have a quick questions. For us who don't have high end clothes, what's the best way to stay warm but do not overheat and get those shills when you start sweating? How to deal with the wind too? thanks
>inb4 buy some arc'teryx $600 jacket
pic unrelated
>>910396
Try to avoid cotton, and you should have a rain jacket anyway. Put this over your other layers to help act as a wind breaker.
Or buy used stuff. It's just as good as the new stuff (99% of the time).
Also, what do you plan on doing?
>>910397
>Also, what do you plan on doing?
Hiking and camping.
For example last week I did a 6h hike and after a few minutes doing it I immediately started overheating and sweating, anyway I opened the zipper and everything was fine... until every fucking time that wind blows which was every 20 seconds or so. And as soon as I stopped walking I got cold as fuck even with the zipper closed because there was that small but noticeable perspiration layer.
>>910401
I don't know where you're from, but typically in the winter the goal is to not sweat because once you do you'll be even colder when you stop. You shed layers right before you start to hike, then put them back on to trap the warmth when you stop.
The more experience you get the more comfortable you get with it.
You're supposed to start off cold so you don't stop after 10 minutes to shed a layer.
Currently live in Kansas and it's complete horse shit. Looking for a place that has /out/ things like forests and mountains. Preferably not in the south. Blue states are ones i'm considering and red states are ones that can fuck off. Otherwise i'm open to the others. Bonus points if it has a modestly populated town or city (around 25k - 80k) where I can afford live without a roommate.
Washington is nice. stay away from eastern wa though, its nothing but high desert and rocks
>>903835
>not AZ
Dude, wtf?
>>903841
yoll be fucked when Ranier's had it with your shit
What alcoholic drink do you take /out/?
I typically buy a bottle of 151. Have it all gone in about a hour. The euphoria of being so drunk you're a walking bobble head until you pass out with your dick in a fire ant mound.
Depends on what type of pipe tobacco I bring. If I bring an aromatic I will bring rum or gin. Virginia blend would be scotch. A dark blend would be a porter or spiced ale.
>>895698
You sound like you should be going to a AA meeting, instead of camping.
Nigga you gon die
I am thinking of getting into hunting. Specifically deer since there is an over abundance of them here in Maryland. Any tips to get started? Which gun to buy and what to expect? Any stories or advice welcome
Look at your state laws

Go take a hunter safety course then if you have more questions you can ask them in a less vague way.
What gun would you suggest buying for my first hunt?
