Pic related. What the fuck was I thinking?
>Bear Grylls AND Gerber
Did you not look around and notice those tools were three times the cost of the ones around them?
I do love the ideas behind a lot of the Gerber and Bear Grylls stuff. Too bad the quality and price are way off the mark.
>What the fuck was I thinking?
You were thinking it's the greatest idea ever.
We had a high wind warning so I went in the woods. I didn't go very far because trees were snapping and branches were falling. One thing for sure was that it's 28 degrees outside and the wind was going right through clothes. I had a fleece hoodie, fleece vest, wicking shirt and my base layer.
Forecast: WINDS...60 TO 80 MPH GUSTS THROUGH SUNDAY.
IMPACTS...LOOSE OBJECTS WILL BE BLOWN AROUND. DOWNED TREES AND
LIMBS MAY RESULT IN POWER OUTAGES. THERE IS POTENTIAL FOR
DAMAGE TO STRUCTURES SUCH AS ROOFS...SIDING...AND WINDOWS.

Cool story bro.

...did you atleast jerk off or eat some mushrooms?

to much shrapnel flying around.
Anyone here outright hate cities? SF suburb fag here, planning to move to a more rural location in a year or two. Cities (especially metropolis-sized cities like SF) make me cringe in every aspect, especially when it comes to self-sustainability and general outdoor culture.
>woohoo look at me I can grow a single tomato from my apartment balcony I'm one with nature and outdoorsy wow
Anyone feel me?
They're better than suburbs.
Better to keep the cancer contained than have it metastasize into new lands.
>>925567
Exactly. Keep those cityfags with there cancerous liberal agenda contained. I'll stick to my mountain home.
Go die in a fire, OP. Suburban sprawl and suburban assholes like you are worse than either cities or the country, or the people who live in either
Dense urban development is also more sustainable.than paving over more and more farmland to build more shopping malls.

you know the drill, I'll start:
how viable would a travel pillow (pic related) be for camping, specifically 2+day backpacking, assuming it is in a weather tight sack hanging from my pack?
>>925455
dou you normally sleep in your camp on reclining airline seats?
I have a camping pillow but it rarely gets taken farther than pqck in state park camping. your extra clothes are your pillow, idiot.
what for? they're used for sitting up right like in a car or on a plane. So what are you going to be sitting up right for a long duration that you need neck support for?
Imagine you would be set out in the wild, a few hundred miles away from the nearest human settlement.
What would be minimal equipment be that you need to make it back to civilisation?

What does /out/ like or use when it comes to tents or sleeping gear when out on a 2-3 day venture. I looking at rei for something I can carry into a backpack that will be warm and useful.
Taking suggestions.
>>925294
normally I hust build a shelter. I take a gerber serated knifeand baton down a few trees. this saves me over 2 pounds.
whatever you do don't listen to those asshat "salesman" clowns at rei.
you should probably just go to amazon and type "tent" if the delivery is over a week that is how you know it is foreign quality.
>>925299
Gotcha. I was looking on line anyways.
What's the thing about season specifics? When shopping it said 3 season, 4 season and 3-4 season. Does that have to do with warmth and protection from weather?
>>925306
no it has to do with the color. all tents are pretty much the same when you get out of wallmqrt teir. and even those only suck from their poles.
just buy the absolute lightest chinese made tent on amazon it will be fine in february. but bring a knife just in case.
What meals can be based around rice when /inawoods/ for long periods of time. Not wanting to haul in a heap of heavy canned food or fresh vege/fruit because no storage.
What meals does /out/ make out of rice when you're out for extended periods of time
>>924914
you ever actually cook rice /out/?
on a isonutane burner it cooks way too fast, add water. on the fire.it cooks slow as fug. propane cooks it about right.
most.of the time I make rice is over a fire. it takes forever but you can get it perfect. then I dump a can of chili on it.
>>924914
Well there's...
rice and meat
rice and fish
rice and vegetables
rice and cheese
rice and <insert any style> sauce
>>924923
It's the middle of summer here in New Zealand, and being out there for a week at a time meat would spoil, I'm curious as to what vegetables would keep though. Cheese, is a no go as well.
This is obviously my first attempt at going out for an extended period of time (while trying to make an income /out/ there) and I'm willing to carry that much canned food out there along with working equipment.
>>924918
Will be cooking on something like this, pic related.
One question /out/. I'm trying to find easy things that i can make when im out. But most of the knorr things require milk. Is it possible to make this without milk? Anybody tried it?
>>924807
why would you even eat that? it stinks.
>>924807
about half of knorr products do not reuire milk. and if you really want the shit that does, buy powdered milk. it is in the baking goods section. a tiny pack is 2 dollars and it will let you see if you can stand powdered milk. but once you decide it is ok you will literally never go back. you can buy giant boxes of it for 8 dollars.
>>924807
Lol I live off those things. Yeah powdered milk would do
Planning a trip to Norway with a couple of friends. Any hidden gems in the south region of Norway or the south-west region of Sweden?
Thanks in advance.
There's loads of hidden gems. This is Dale/Askvoll.
Look at Hardangervidda-Aurland or Sunnmorsalpane
>>924696
What time of the year are you visiting?
>>924696
If Jotunheimen is not too far north for you then thats a scenic area. Maybe not exactly a hidden gem. Hardangervidda is huge and wild but more flat than the first mentioned.
What's the best flashlight /out/ there? Either budget or operator-worthy.

Still waiting for help with the beginner guides on the Pastebin. I put a little saltwater one in there, but I want to do a river one possibly. Skid typed up a saltwater guide so enjoy the autism and CAbaymang just a trout one.

Talk about fishin
maybe we should find skid and kill him
>>924267
Maybe I will tell him I will rent him a room close to saltwater for $100/mo and then when he gets here we can kill him. We will beat him until he is half dead, then spray him with dog pheremones and drop him off in the hood where all the stray pitbulls will have their way with him.
>>924271
He might enjoy that actually...
So my old platy (2012ish) finally bit the dust and when I went to order a new one I saw some conflicting information on whether or not the Sawyer filters work with the newer bags. So which is it /out/? Are the threads different or will they work together?
>>924107
The one platy i have works with my mini. I wana say its standard hose bib. Like you can screw a cap off a mountain dew bottle and put it a garden hose bib
I have the sawyer mini and a 0.5L platy squeezebottle. they are not the best fit and leak when squeezed.
There is another brand that has the same threading, you can probably find it on youtube (where i found it but can't find the vid and fuck it thats your job now)
the bags that come with the mini are fine post 2015; ive never had one break and i fold that sucker up instead of rolling it.
>>924107
They dont.
They do but they dont. You CAN get the sawyer to attach correctly to it but most of the time it leaks when is a no no if you're dealing with dirty water. The threads are slightly different.
Source: have a sawyer mini, bought a platypus. Returned when I realized it didn't fit right.
ITT rate my campsite.
>also post yours.
Where do you sit?
Where are you keeping dry timber?
How long has it been raining?
Where is your pile of dry leaves for tinder?
Are you Polish?
