bought a lancer back in 2014 cuz too poor to afford evo, lancer is gonna be paid off this year, there are still brand new final editions in my area.

i cant pay the evo in 1 lump some but i got a few promotions and am making more then enough money to keep up with payments now.

this is my dream car, (i know low standards, shitty interior etc)
this is my last chance to get a new one,

what would you do in my situation?

Yeah buy it

I'd get an evo 8 just because I prefer how they look but it's an evo so you're going to need that warranty
>>
do it bitch

Anyone here work on other people's cars on the side for some extra money? I have been working on my brother's car (simple things, brakes, fluids, maintenance) because he doesn't know anything about them. It seems like a guy who has worked on his own car enough to be familiar with basic tasks could make some decent money working on his friends and families vehicles on the side.

These tasks are easy as hell, but non-car people are not willing to do them themselves. Considering how difficult it can be to find a trustworthy mechanic, working on the cars of people you know might be a good idea. What do you guys think?

Just be careful about the jobs you take on for liability reasons. Remember people are sue happy these days and insurance companies are a bunch of fucktarded cucks

In most states you must have a mechanic's license to work on other people's cars.
>>
>>17375782

wut. You don't have shade-tree mechanics in your state?

Why not buying one, clean the interior from all stuff like backseats and useless shit. Easy to bring the engine to over 200hp and have a perfect driving machine for low money.

A little off topic but how does this generation of cars do reliability wise. I'm looking for a cheap car, and I like the Idea of a station wagon, but I've heard that these cars require a lot of expensive repair

CEL went off on its own

Ran the codes, and no codes are popping up
Car is running better

ALL I did was change the oil, this should not have anything to do with the CEL code
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
If you have an american car it can be something stupid, I got it when I didn't twist the gas cap on properly.
>>
>>17375444

Hondas can set a CEL for the VTEC system if the oil gets really bad

alternatively if you have a car built 95 or older, the CEL doesn't have to store any information like 96+ OBD-II does and will only light the CEL if the fault is present right at that moment
>>
>>17375444
you can pop MIL's for oil pressure so yeah, it can have something to do with it.

Hey/o/,

Need my car's a/c fixed. Nearby mechanic explained what needed to be done and gave me a quote.

What I heard:
>evac and recharge
>fix ac leak
>replace discharge hose
>blower motor

What I understood:
Blower motor needs to be replaced(?) so air is blown. Refrigerant needs to be added and the hose replaced so it doesn't leak which will produce cold air.

Official emailed explanation:
>Pressure should be at 100 pounds when equalized need to drain a vac recharge with die also blower motor only works on speed three and four also controls compressor activation needs transistor replaced for blower motor. also discharge line appears to be leaking

Did I understand correctly? How much should this cost? I drive a 98 Civic.

Pic is underneath my car and was emailed to me with their explanation. No idea what I'm supposed to be looking at.

Probably cost a lot. I don't know your specific car but some have the a/c stuff in the dash which is a giant bitch to get to as you have to tear apart the dash.

No replies in the DB for this post!

my relatively wealthy grandpa is offering to give me his 2009 Lexus IS 350 for 8000 dollars but I get to pay in installments. Not many miles on it as he mostly drives his Lincoln Continental

Worth it?

Toyota/Lexus is the best brand to buy into if you want to minimize regular maintenance costs.

There was some recent list for last year regarding cars that owners spent the LEAST amount of money on after the initial purchase and Lexus/Toyota were the top 2. Buick was #3 though so lmfao idk... but having owned multiple American, German and Japanese cars I will say straight up that Toyota is the king of daily drivers.

Wat do? I have to show up in court, I understand? Do I need to schedule a time, or sign up beforehand? Is there a queue and they just let you walk in and ask you what you did?

The back of your ticket should have instructions on sending it in not guilty. You have to mail it in (at least in my state) and they'll give you a set time and date you should come in.

At the risk of bumping a bait thread, "best" is subjective. I would suggest an older ford or dodge myself. Ford has better overall build quality, but it's difficult to beat a cummins engine. I don't like GM diesels because duramax is a joke.
>>
>>17375176
I can;t do ford anymore

Also not bait thread

Also anything too old is just not worth it, suspension/chassis issues, older interiors

I need something comfy and offload capable with diesel benefits

>Anything too old
Well buddy, what do you consider too old?
If you saved an extra 5k or so that might be more reasonable but if you looking for something 5/7 years old that's a pretty tight budget, diesels hold value you pretty well as you know.

Hi /o/. Could use your input.

I'm currently driving an '05 Toyota Corolla LE. just cracked 195k miles. I'm 4th owner, but the car has been owned by one elderly man, my sister in law, and her sister, who have taken good care of it. Still runs quite well, but it feels horrendously outdated and certain creature comforts like AC and keyless entry are either broken or on the fritz. Thankfully I own the car outright and I've been quoted $2.5k trade in value.

I'm in the market for a new(er) car. Driving for Domino's I already make good money and can drop 1-2k on a down payment by the end of the summer. I've got one more year of college to finish my degree, but can work during the school year and would prefer to keep monthly payments in the neighborhood of $150. I'm looking at vehicles in the 10-11k range.

My parents however, would rather I didn't get a new vehicle yet. They'd prefer I finish school first. They've been burned by used cars in the past (read: A shitty Ford Escort from the 80's.) and would prefer I buy brand new, but I want to get out of this car while it still has value, and would rather make monthly payments than throw money into a pit repairing things as this car tips over 200k miles.

What do you think, /o/? Any suggestions for specific make/models would be good.

Well if you're looking for a late model car, the general rules apply: nothing European, no sports cars as they have likely been abused and try to avoid vehicles with timing belts.

For your situation, I would look for a Toyota Avalon or Lexus ES or IS series. These cars are very well made, good on gas, and have all the options that you would be looking for.

A Lincoln Town Car is another vehicle to consider, as they are reliable, luxurious, average 23mpg (on regular gas, too) and many were owned by old people who hardly ever drove them.

The gen 1 Acura MDX is another excellent vehicle (we just sold one with 287k miles), but they do have timing belts.
