Im going to look at a 924 Turbo later this week. Ive read up on the common problems etc. but anything specific I need to look at? Supposedly its got under 100k km on the odo. No service history though.

Anyone else had a 924/944?

How long do the turbos usually last?

Im a mechanic and Ive only ever owned Japanese cars, high performance turbo cars to regular n/a shitboxes, but I want to try something different.

I like to fill out free quotes online and Im not sure if this is quite right. I am 20 from brooklyn nyc and I want to get a first car. Now, I make about 45 a year and the quotes im getting back are anywhere from 700-1000 dollars. Thats pretty fucking steep. is this right? Is this a monthly payment? I might be in denial because i cant believe how cucked i am by the city i was born in. If this is correct I may have to move to NJ just so i can drive a car that i want and not some cuckbox. Honestly i want to neck myself this shit is so infuriating i hate this fucking place. Any advice pleae? Noone in my family drives so i learn everything from the internet.

New driver here.
Been driving for a year or so and I love it, but I don't really know shit about cars.
Just wondering how I can best learn about cars and how they work.
"Ask dad" isn't an option.

Instead of taking your car to a shop, start doing basic, small maintenance yourself.
Change the oil, change the brake pads/rotors, change the filters, rotate your tires and so on.
If you get stuck, search car- or brand-specific forums for help, or look it up on Youtube. There's probably a video on whatever you want/need to do.

Just slowly build up from the basics, start tackling more difficult jobs when you feel comfortable doing so, and you'll be able to pull your car apart, put it all back together and have it actually work better than it did when you started eventually.
>>
>>17713641
I just google the parts of a car that I want to understand better. There are always some articles and even some youtube vids with cool animations that show you how things work. A more systematic approach would be to look up sequentially every mechanism of a car from the struts to the diff to the transmission to the engine.

I don't get how most people don't know what a differential is or how a transmission gearbox works but I guess they just don't care.
>>
What specifically are you trying to learn? YouTube has guides on literally every car with everything you'd need to work on. As stated in the sticky buying your car's Chilton manual for your car will help with anything you need more specialized information with. The QTDDTOT threads can help with whatever you don't understand.

Asuna was a sporty version of Geo.

It's and Isuzu impulse, good car, but good luck finding parts. It may have been rebadged as a GEO one but was meant to compet against the 200sx and of the like.

An Isuzu Impulse, and it shares parts with a Geo Storm.

The reason you've never seen one before is because they were junk when they were brand new.

>Live in London so don't *need* a car.
>Used to own sports car & sports bike a few years ago.

>Currently driving '04 Celica for use for fun, weekends and out of town trips.

>Thinking of upgrading to something more modern with a bit more comfort and speed.

>Mostly concerned with the cost, currently earning ~62k GBP a year and I'm aware that once depreciation is factored in, I'm probably not gonna see any of the cash again if I drop it into the car.

So thoughts / recommendations?
Example of a short list I'm putting together and reckoning to not creep much higher than 10-12k

Hey guys, I just bought a 99 Camry that's been sitting the past year. What are some things I can do for a tune up or cleaning?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>17712727
By sitting you mean, occasionally turned on to get the oil flowing or just abandoned?

If first one check the other fluids, the ignition and suspension I guess.
>>
>>17712727
replace oil #1
check all rubber lines in engine bay for signs of cracking
check transmission fluid level, replace optional unless it looks dirty.

put some HEET in gas tank to dissolve any water that might have gotten into gas tank

I'd say that's about it
>>
>>17712727
I'd probably change the fuel lines and clean the injectors at that point. Maybe a new fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter.

New engine oil for sure.

New coolant. Thermostat. Water pump unless it's pretty new. Timing belt unless it's pretty new. Alternator and PS belts unless it's muh serpentine. Recharge the AC. Make sure the tires aren't dry rotting. Brake fluid flush.
