I'll post a spoop and /r/ a couple of stories. Basically, the stories are about people who get together in the woods to Most Dangerous Game each other, specifically, one has an anon camping with some buds getting caught in the middle of one and another has a sheriff/deputy/LEO of some form stumbling on the aftermath of one. This is probably a shitty summary, but it's what I got.

You are so close to featureless, go to a compensator or a target crown for your barrel, lose the gay AFG, and put a normal mag release on there! Lose the bullet button. You could do a lot worse for a first rifle. But don't do the red shit though

Primary arms makes a decent scope as well.

I'm not a fan of the Leopold AR series, but it might be worth looking into.

Check Ebay for some vintage optics, you can find Bausch and Lomb rifle scopes every now and again, or other older optics that are nice.

Get a schnauzer. They will fuck up anything. Mine has killed dozens of rats and a few rabbits.

And honestly I have been using an old airsoft AR that I had since I was a kid. Thing shoots at 350 fps and it's taking out rats. Usually my dog while catch one or find one then I grab the rifle.

A pellet gun will work. Either .177 or .22 is fine, .22 obviously being bigger. A lot of models have built in silencers, which is fine for pellet guns as long as they can't be put on real guns. Although those will kill them, a proper trap is going to be more effective since those are constantly at work and a gun requires you to be sitting there, waiting. I forgot what it's called, but there is one trap that uses a CO2 can to activate a piston that automatically smashes their head. Those work well if you have a major pest issue.

The Chief had its own problems, notably the engine was pretty shit. Shoehorn an AVDS 1790 into it and it'd be breddy gud.
