I just want a WASR underfolder so bad.
They look so good and I love WASRs.

I've been looking for months and only found one locally and none on gunbroker.
A local shop has one but they want like $700 fucking dollars.
Tear my life to pieces.

I wonder if gunshops take trade.

Same way Americans fell for the whole "Reagan didn't have to wear a coat in the cold!!111!!!" shit back in the 80's.
Small displays of power and "strength" actually mean a whole fucking lot when it comes down to public perception.

Especially considering all of the soldiers there were umbrella-less as well, it makes him come off as a strong man of the people.
I guarantee you if he'd been in a ton of rain gear and had an umbrella shuffling around uncomfortably people would've noticed.
>>
>>34661506
If he had and the American media picked on it then the Russian media response would be something like
>lel, are you retarded or something? Of course you're going to have a rain coat/use an umbrella?

Yeah, it was a pretty big thing.

Reagan met with the Russian president and didn't wear a coat even though it was cold (while Gorbachev was all bundled up because it was fucking cold).
Reagan got worshiped over it for months and people clowned Gorbie.

#collectable dead caliber rifle.

Ehh, why would you go to a game so many people gross.

Thinking back to when I first got into guns it's really been nonstop worrying about something.... hicapban, scurrygunban, noplacetofindammo, 7n6ban, KCdead, Molotdead. Hey but at least suppressors will be off the NFA right? Right!?

SAR.
Which is basically a WASR with dimples made in the same factory as WASRs except for the modern Romanian Army.

NPAPs have had some issues with heat treatment and steel quality, not the same giant issues as RAS, but still enough I'd hold off.
OPAPs are good.

Maadis are good but more rare.
Mak90s are good but more rare.

If I was you I'd hunt down an underfolder WASR to be friends with my fixed stock WASR; that's actually what I'm doing rn.

What retaining plates do you use? All the ones I've seen are designed so that the safety goes in last. The full auto safeties can sometimes be installed last if you can get enough wiggle room on the disconnector to get it over. I've heard people installing the safeties counter clockwise and jumping the rear trunnion rivets but I've not had any luck with it.

I think I'll stick with the wire retainer or hairpin cotters.
>>
Anyone know what to make of the AKT-98?
Got one cheap from a friend but everything on the internet says they double-feed, jam, and generally have shit-tons of problems.

>And they fit my Yugos without issue.

>All the ones I've seen are designed so that the safety goes in last
Correct, just like the shepherds crook would be installed.
The safety is the first out, and the last in.
>The full auto safeties can sometimes be installed last if you can get enough wiggle room on the disconnector to get it over.
Huh?
How exactly are you installing a FCG?

When you're installing the FCG, do you depress the trigger so that the safety can slip past the top of the disconnect?
I found that a lot of times there are burrs or casting defects (especially on G2s) that will cause it to hang up.
I generally just press the safety down hard, while depressing the trigger.
>Before you retort, Yes this is with a full auto safety.

Honestly I don't even care anymore. I'm tired of stressing about this stuff. First it was Hillary, then it was the first round of sanctions under Trump, now it's this, and sooner rather than later it'll be even more bogus crap about it to stress about. I stressed super hard about it and was prepared to buy a VEPR or three and did buy a lot of 5.45 the first time around but now I just don't even care. I'm sick of the stress of losing my biggest hobby and biggest interest eating me up. Once I sell my FAL and buy an AUG that will kind of be a fall back after slavshit is killed and then I'll just slowly migrate to uniforms and militaria and my slavshit will just be big and heavy collectibles. I'll stick to 5.56 and 9mm and just sit on all of my AK ammo forever

He's probably sitting on a bunch of the shit with more coming in. People can panic in /akg/ all they want, but most guys aren't buying anymore. He's probably got inventory from months before the election just taking up space and decided to zero the inventory counter and dump those cases to get them off his shelves.

With century now also bringing GT in, vympel is probably churning this stuff out in huge quantities for the US market.

Wolf just imports; they get their stuff from a variety of places. Their current AK loads I think are coming from Barnaul, who makes the Brown/Silver/Golden Bear ammo. GT comes directly from Vympel.

I was going to buy a case of Barnaul Mil-Spec, which is apparently nearly sub-MOA, but then this sale popped up when Sam "restocked" today so I went ahead and jumped on the GT instead. I'll get another case of 5.45 and some 8M3 if shit goes south with sanctions.

Yeah, GT isn't any more consistent or accurate compared to Barnaul offerings, in my experience. Rob Ski was a DM, and now a sniper, so his perspective on "good ammo" is quite different from what most of us look for in AK ammo.

I buy almost exclusively GT for storage (lacquered and sealed), and because the bullet is the same as M67, which has superior ballistics to any other FMJ 7.62x39. Not to mention the average velocity is always around 2400fps, which is great.

I was reading some of the reviews on SG Ammo last night. A lot of them mention exceptional accuracy results, which isn't surprising considering AKOU's findings of good consistency. How true that is is anyone's guess, but right now GT is cheaper and I doubt any of us are trying to make precision shots with an AKM, so that's still the way to go for the time being.

Oh, well that explains that. One more question since you're building the clone. What's the difference between the SLR107fr and AK-103? I know it's a different rear trunnion, 5.5mm pin, smooth top cover, and dimpled barrel parts. Am I missing anything?
>>
>>34664266
After all my bills are paid at the end of the month I have maybe $100 left over, then it ask starts again. Things will be better after I get my car paid off. That'll free up about $400/month.
>>
>>34664294
Has the bump rivet on the left side, different bullet guide as a consequence, smooth gas piston, AK74 type bolt and carrier whereas a 107FR has AKM type parts. The gas tube retainer lever is stamped instead of milled, the front sight base is a different design that is easier to manufacture, and the same thing goes for the optics rail. Probably more
>>
>>34664294
different optics rail, bump rivet, a 103 should have a stamped gas tube lever instead of milled, and the SLR-107FR has an AKM bolt and bolt carrier.

interestingly enough there are lots of 103's with pinned barrel components, so that aspect isn't necessarily incorrect.

the barrel components are probably incorrect in some small way for a 103, but my autism doesn't quite extend that deep yet
>>
>>34664331
The front sight base is obviously different but the gas block and rear sight block are not different in a significant way except for sometimes having dimples as you mentioned

>I shoot pistols and PCCs more than any of my rifles yet I stock assloads of ammo for 762.
Pretty much exactly how I feel, but with 5.45, and even then I only have one gun in that caliber. I bought a case of 7.62 earlier just because I had less than 250 rounds of it since my Maadi was an unplanned buy. I'm at 3.5K 5.45 for a 74 build that I haven't even shot since I got it earlier this year because I've been too worried about sanctions to do anything, but I've put about 1,500 rounds or more of 9mm through my Glawk and Scorpion Evo since the beginning of the year.

I'm gonna keep trying to buy 5.45 and 7.62 when I can, but at a certain point, I need to just accept that I don't shoot rifles that often, but I do shoot 9mm every other week or so, and I need to be stocking up on subsonics anyway for when my Form 4 comes back.

And even *then,* I need to just taper off on gun and ammo buys in general. Like I mentioned a thread or two ago, my constant anxiety over guns and gun bans has gotten to the point where it prevents me from living my life to the fullest. Outside of going to conventions with my friends, the last time I had an actual, no-bullshit vacation (as in, the type where I leave my work at home and just go fishing for two days or whatever) was at least two years ago, and the election panic left me with absolutely shit all in my savings account. I hate feeling like I'm living on borrowed time with this hobby.

depends on how you define "hearing safe". If you define it as less than 140db at the muzzle, then yes it is.

However, in reality, any supersonic semiautomatic rifle will not be hearing safe, due to the action cycling. This is especially true with AK's, as they have quite a bit of piston pop, and are highly overgassed with any suppressor.

So generally, while I highly recommend you buy the Dead Air PBS-1 (GREAT can), it's important to have reasonable expectations. You won't (or shouldn't) run this without hearing protection.
>>
>>34664379
I know, and I will. I'm just going to get the smooth top cover because I like it and was wondering how hard a proper clone would be to do. Thanks again.

Man, that just sounds fun...some people have all the luck. What's it like being armed security? I used to work at a Lowe's, and it seemed like once a week or a couple of weeks there would be a Loomis van that would go the same exact route i would take to get to work because it bypassed a lot of traffic. Always ended up getting behind them and following since the driver apparently had a lead foot. It's a wonder I didn't get pulled over by cops.

>What's it like
The actual work itself isn't bad and it's a fun job if you have good people to work with. However on the whole its a shit job with shit pay. You'll most likely be surrounded by people who can barely dress themselves, let alone carry a gun.

First branch I was at was fucking awesome and felt like hanging with friends as opposed to work. The place I'm at now goes to the middle of nowhere, is like 8 people total, and all but 2 are retarded with a boss that's never available and is also retarded. Seriously, it's military levels of bad decision making. The trucks are shit, and you're forced to work in horrible conditions under the implication that you'll be fired if you refuse to get in the truck with no A/C on a 105° day.

I could write a small book about it but the short of it is it's horrible and if you have other options take those. I'm stuck where I am because I live in the middle of nowhere with no economy outside tourism and my wife is a cunt who won't move because muh family.

Nailed it. Best answer.
>>
>>34667065
Exactly. Most of the guys with the scratch to buy 5+ VEPRs and then 500 lbs of ammo in quick succession are fucking ancient, and whenever something gets banned, they immediately do the "fuck you, got mine" bit, even to people who just got to the point in life where they can afford to even buy one case. They then chant "buy it cheap, stack it deep!" like a fucking cultist mantra and ignore the fact that most of us can't afford to raid our entire 401K to invest into ammo.

I put up with a ton of that shit when 7n6 went away. It's infuriating.

Beat me to it.

The craziest shit about this all, to me, is that it's all so true. I CONSTANTLY hear about guys buying $3K ARs, dozens of Saigas, ammo by the fucking pallet, etc., but when I go to the range, what do I see the 40+ crowd doing? Slow firing Kimber 1911s, bolt guns, or XDms. You *never* see these guys bringing out AKs or ARs to rip through a few mags, ever, but they'll always be happy to come over and tell you that you overpaid for your WASR because "I remember when these were $400!"

Good for you, dude. I was a freshman in high school when they were that price. Most of the people in this thread were probably in elementary or middle school.

Honestly, half the reason I even go to ARFCOM anymore is for shopping with schadenfreude. I have absolutely no sympathy for the old fucks whose wives are divorcing them during their midlife crisis and forcing them to sell tens of thousands of dollars worth of guns, ammo, and parts they "bought cheap and stacked deep" over the last two decades and lorded it over me after Sandy Hook, despite the fact that I was still a literal fucking child when they bought their Norincos.

I'm not sure if classic fudds or panic fudds are more insufferable at this point, but holy shit do I hate them both.

My Russian FSB ration finally came in on Saturday and I've been eating it throughout the week, and it's really tasty. So far the kasha was good, kinda bland but good, the goulash was really really good, the apple jam spread was some of the best I've ever had (tempted to drop another $40 on one just for it 2bh), and the apple drink mix was pretty good too. Holy shit boys, I just learned that one of my childhood friends' dad/my dad's good friend when I was a kid was arrested for caving his wife of 25 years' face in with a rifle. He mortared so hard he broke the stock in half. He called the cops on his own and they arrived to find her with her face split open and unrecognizable and grey matter around her head and him sitting in his recliner 100% sober telling the cops that "the bitch can't divorce me now"

This guy was one of the first guys to ever take the time to teach me something about shooting, he's put hundreds of rounds my Type 56 and AR back when they were my dads' rifles. It was his property that I shot my very first gun on and that I began to learn to shoot on. It was his bolt action .22 magnum that I took my very first grouse with as a kid. This is really weird

Also check out this site and read up to know what to look for in the future. And from a quick search, yes that's a good deal IF it's real. Other sites have it listed for $300+.

Well, I'm genuinely sorry to hear that, I can relate about the job. I hate where I work, it's hard labor for pay that doesn't meet the strenuous work, and the company is cheap with everything. But it's the most I've ever made, or probably could make without a college degree, and I can't go anywhere to a job easier on my body because that generally means a cut in my pay(I live in a small country town too) and with my wife making minimum wage and me paying the house and car payments, I can't afford a pay cut.
