I'm missing quite a lot of space from my SSD. This is taking the max size of the page file into account. Used space is 73 GB, max page file size is 2 GB, and used space according to drive properties is 111 GB. Just ran disk cleanup and removed temp files, emptied recycle bin, and a bunch of other stuff.
Where's the ~36 GB of space?
>>58936537
Install Gentoo
>>58936537
Run treesize free as admin to see where the space is.
Probably some program or game is creating a lot of crap somewhere in \Users\Youruser folders.

Wow thanks for this thread, I had no idea Win10 sucked and Win7 was good
Fucking cretin
>>58936449
Windows 10 Creators Update is gonna be good.
You can delay updates for months and are not forced to restart your computer.
>>58936449
You weren't here for all the "win10 is shit" threads?
Give me some hacking / cyber security tips before i have a fucking stroke from all the bullshit on the internet (ironic i know)

So my trusty AM3 Mobo seems to have died. We go a long way back, with a 965BE I've had running at 4ghz for years.
So is there any point to just getting a new AM3 motherboard, or is there no future in that line of compatibility? Go Intel?
Zen is due in early March.
Just wait. Even if Zen doesn't take your fancy, then stores are going to be moving stock, be this Intel or AMD, makes no difference, there will be sales that you can take advantage of.
As the comment above, if AMD gets your panties in a bunch, wait and get a Ryzen chip

Can't really be without my desktop for weeks. Looking at fixing it in the next few days.
What's a new and upcoming programming language? I want to go hipster mode, but not shit-tier hipster mode like ruby and node.
How are Elixir and Crystal?
>>58936172
Elixir is Erlang with syntactic sugar on it. It's pretty neat, although it's not the best thing for everything.

Elixir is shite, go to Erlang directly

If you want to go true hipster a Rust/Haskell workflow is the way to go

I'm pretty sure most checkbox handler functions in Windows are empty, they're just there to make you think that you have some control.
Hey /g/, how do I get better at programming? I know the basics of C++, but I feel like I'm missing something to make something actually useful. Because of this, I'm starting to lose motivation to code, what should I do?
>>58936123
What is your end goal in programming? What do you want to make?
Do projects.

I've always been intrigued with 3D graphics, I thought it would be cool to make some sort of modeling software. I know it sounds retarded/complicated, but I think its interesting.

Might as well just install a Windows partition for vidya, since most VMs suck for games and WINE can barely game without shitting the bed.

>>58936021
I don't see what the problem is with creating a language that was made to deal with GTK+ programming much easier? Would you rather do it in C++ instead, because trust me, if you even tried you'd pull your hair out.
>>58937699
There is literally nothing wrong with an agreed-upon subset of C++. It's what Google uses to write the most technically advanced browser in the world, in addition to their search algorithms, TensorFlow, etc. It's what Lockheed Martin uses to write firmware for their military aircraft.
You also get an absolutely yuge talent pool of potential developers willing to contribute code because they aren't put off by the requirement of investing 24 hours of their own free time learning a fucking meme language (that isn't even designed well).
>>58937817
moving the goalposts I see, I'm talking about GTK specifically, it's C++ library is a fucking mess.
>writing a long post on 4chan in Firefox

>you go through all the five stages of grief in the timespan of five minutes
When Safari was on Windows, I remember that if you had entered data into a text field and you unintentionally performed an action that would cause you to leave or reload the page, it would warn you and prompt you whether you wanted to discard said data.
Why can't other browsers do the same thing? I've now resorted to writing long posts in a text editor to avoid this incident and the accompanying roller coaster of negative emotions from ever happening again.
>>58935896
alternatively, could stop being autistic and just select a text field.

/thread
Why does backspace mean 'back one page' in Firefox anyway? Why can't they bind that to alt-left like Chrome instead?
Is the smartphone the logical conclusion to consumer technology? Nothing has been able to replace it and its use is continuously growing with smart applications.
>Is the smartphone the logical conclusion to consumer technology?
No. Eventually, we'll carry around Internet-connected hologram projectors that will project all of the information we need onto any surface, or 3D space.

Install Archlinux
Then:
sudo pacman -Sy ffmpeg
Then:
ffmpeg -i /path/to/webm ~/filename.webm
According to ffmpeg documentation, for webm, you get better results in terms of quality and control of target file size using 2 pass recording.
