Does being absent from sugar for an extended period of time make you more insulin sensitive? Also, does getting quickly sick by sugar mean that you're insulin sensitive?

Hi /fit/

I just ran 1 mile in 7:01 (apparently). Is this decent? What's a good goal to work towards? Any reccs for programs?

I've been running for some time - did couch to 5k, then just regularly jogged for 30 mins 3 times per week for a few months. But I've just taken up lifting and I'd like to get into interval training or something to keep making cardio gains.

One of the things I wanted to do to prove I have a basic standard of fitness was meet all the military firness standards (e.g. X no of push-ups, X minute run time), but I keep finding conflicting info on what they are.

Any ideas would be appreciated and also let me hear about your own cardio training

Today I did 8 miles finishing with an average pace of 7:31 minutes per mile.
You should be able to go much faster then that for only one mile.

Yeah I'm 23 and gained about an inch over a period of 6 months from drinking 4 glasses of milk a day.

Used to be made fun of by girls for being in skele mode but now I get a bit of attention. But I'm also 6'2 and decent enough face. One time I was at a house party with friends and there were a bunch of dudes that randomly turned up to join. A couple of girls came up to me and asked me if I could get them to leave because I'm huge. That's when I really knew times were different.

If you're skinnyfat and have little to no muscle development but you're cutting like me yet you're doing compound lifts, HIIT and doing ab work 5 times a week and you're taking in as much protein as you can despite the calorie deficit, surely surely after you've got down to 10-12% after a few months of cutting you're not going to look like an anorexia patient?

I started lifting over a month ago and ate at a calorie surplus until I decided I didn't like my podgy stomach and would rather go the cut then bulk path first and I want to stick to it. In this stage of body transformation I don't expect to look amazing by the end of it (going 20% bf to 10) but doing those things (3x a week lifting, ab work, HIIT etc) I can look fairly respectable like pic related, r-right guys?

OP you need to read the sticky and understand that your body cannot build muscle while on a calorie deficit, unless there is an overabundance of bodyfat (we're talking ~35% bf or higher). The body doesn't give a shit how you look it only cares about being able to perform it's necessary functions. This is why your body stores excess energy as fat. This is why when you take in less energy than you need (calorie deficit) your body uses the stored fat for energy.

Wrong.

You can lose fat and gain muscle. The factor determining whether you can do this or not is your strength/lifting level, not your bf%. All beginner lifters can - fat + muscle. Intermediate lifters it is doable on a case by case basis but for the most part isn't possible. Advanced lifters, it's not possible at all.

Anyone have any tips for a person who has diabetes and has dialysis every other day. I'm obese and I feel its hard to diet. My goal is to stay fit and perhaps get rid of my illness. I would be thankful for any tips. Thank you.

Took my A1C from 10.1 to 4.9 by literally just weighting my food and being vigilant. About portion control. I know nothing about the dialysis bit, but I know that if you determine your TDEE, stay at a 500-1000 deficit, learn to make a handful of meals, and hop on a treadmill for a walk every morning, you'll get your numbers down. No more soda, only black coffee, etc etc will go a long way too.

Stay on the metformin too... It's shown to help with weight loss.
