I did the Discord thing a bit, I didn't meet anyone cool. Creeps and idlers. Some of the idlers were a little cool I guess. People have to be cooler than that to keep me around, though
I do a whole song and dance when meeting people, and I scan their responses to do a social quicksort of sorts. Fast filtration.
I could be super-manipulative with my style but mostly I use it to find people who are fun to banter with. I just don't like talking to people enough to do it the normal way. But this means I suck as a person, so no surprise, it totally doesn't work that well.
I have a more functional version I use to make friends at parties. It's cool. I know how to interact in the general direction of people and then play like I was always talking to whoever notices me. I'm playful enough to slide between opportunities, too. So, like, if I flub something and nobody replies, people also tend not to notice the errors because obviously I was just talking to someone who wasn't them.
Sometimes it's because I'm always willing to have been talking to the least popular person around me all along if that's who actually replies. I'm not snobbish, I secretly hate parties and socializing anyways, the least popular person is either interesting because weird or else they're interesting because thank god I found the other most introverted person in the room and I can stop being a fake public person for a little bit.
