Bump for interest. Dont know much about this bust extremely curious. I think most magic is based off the kabbala. There's different versions like the Jewish and hermetic kabbala. Look up Hermes trimegistus and the emerald tablets. There's a ton of more contemporary authors as well but I don't really know anything about that.

Closest I've read it's Robert bruce's astral dynamics. It's pretty much all about the mechanics of astral projection but he does mention encountering spiritual astral beings.

The sources you should go for depend on the tradition you want to partake in.

If you want to go for magic that builds on a Christian background, you want Hermeticism. Try anything Israel Regardie has written about the Golden Dawn, Franz Bardon's works, the Key and Lesser Key of Solomon, and for that matter most books on magic from the Western hemisphere written before 1900 or so.

If you like the elaborate ritual of Hermeticism but aren't that big on Christianity, try the works of Aleister Crowley. His Thelema is basically paganized Hermeticism.

If you want something a little simpler, go for Wicca. It's mostly based on a streamlined version of Crowley's system, and has the advantage of being what the New Age section of most book stores caters to, along with most metaphysical supply shops.

If you want to apply some creativity to your magic, or if you don't want to have to devote yourself to a pagan or monotheistic religion, try chaos magic. Bluefluke's Psychonaut Field Guide is a great starting point here, followed by the works of Peter J. Carroll and Phil Hine.

If you want something with a more modern feel, something that's aiming to be a science, try psionics. Charles Cosimano is probably the best source here.

And, of course, you can just try learning a little of everything and synthesizing your own system out of it.

Read both Metro 2033 and Metro 2034.

They treat the nuclear apolapyse pretty damn realistically when it comes to the sense of loss and regret humanity experiences now that it is confined in the Metro stations for the rest of its days. It does include some more science fiction aspects such as mutants by radiation and such, but they can be pretty damn scary too.

Much of the early history of the Voynich Manuscript is unknown. The first confirmed owner is Georg Baresch, an obscure alchemist from Prague. Baresch was apparently just as puzzled as modern scientists about this "Sphynx" that had been "taking up space uselessly in his library" for many years. A letter he wrote in 1639 is the earliest known mention of the manuscript. After his death, the book traded hands until being given to Athanasius Kircher, a Jesuit scholar from the Collegio Romano; it remained in their library for almost 300 years.

Around 1912, the Collegio Romano was short of money and decided to sell some of its holdings discreetly. Wilfrid Voynich, a Polish book dealer, acquired 30 manuscripts from the sale, among them the manuscript that now bears his name. He spent the next seven years attempting to interest scholars in deciphering the script while he worked to determine its origins.

The Voynich manuscript has been studied by many professional and amateur cryptographers, including American and British codebreakers from both World War I and World War II. No one has yet succeeded in deciphering the text, and it has become a famous case in the history of cryptography. The mystery of the meaning and origin of the manuscript has excited the popular imagination, making the manuscript the subject of novels and speculation. None of the many hypotheses proposed over the last hundred years has yet been independently verified.

And now, in the interests of illumination, I bring you a website where you can download The Voynich Manuscript in PDF form, for your own curiosity and attempted deciphering. It's a really fascinating perusal, and the mysterious images and text within, though unreadable, are beautiful to view.

It's gotten to the point where I don't know what to do with my rage sometimes. Right after my last accident, in which I finally totaled my poor car. I stayed as strong as I could and fought my tears with my damnedest as I watch my destroyed car which served me so well for 8 years get dragged up on the tow truck. And why? Because I didn't pay any fucking attention! I was about to lose control of my anguish, so I excused myself to the bathroom and broke down silently.

Then out of nowhere, I became PISSED. I fucking hated myself for being so careless. I hated myself for putting an innocent driver and the love of my life in danger, all because I wasn't paying any fucking attention. I hated myself for this being the 3RD TIME IN 3 MONTHS that I had crashed my car into something. I hated that I just put in my two weeks notice at my job and then proceeded to ruin my main mode of transportation and independence. I had to punch something (I've never been that violent before to my recollection), but I dared not damage anything and burden my grilfriend's parents even more. So I turned my rage on myself. I walloped my skull as hard as I could with my fists about 7 or 8 times right there on the toilet. Pathetic. Don't worry, I hit like a fucking pussy, so the worst I did was give myself a very small bump on the head and made my temples pretty sore. Eventually I calmed down for a brief moment, but it would come in waves. I found a belt hanging in the bathroom and beat myself in the face and arms with it a few times for good measure. I tried to clean up after so as not to concern anyone, and as far as I saw her parents couldn't tell. She noticed though, and being amazing like she is, she stayed with me all night to try and keep my spirits up.
