I am looking to get my brother one of these consoles since he wants to get into retro gaming (nostalgic for his childhood), yet does not want to play emulators on a computer, and has cartridges and controllers for his old consoles anyway.
I heard these types of consoles though have pretty shoddy quality, so I am hesitant. The price points for these consoles ($100 or less) is a major plus as well as the fact that they play the consoles my brother is nostalgic for (NES, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Boy Color).
So what is /vr/ 's take on these things, and what is the best one you can get on the market right now in terms of quality?

My wife's son says the Retron is good.
This has to be bait
My wife and her boyfriend love the retron i bought them
What are some /vr/ games you're still waiting on getting translated?
Pic related. Picked up Japanese for this shit.
So what are you waiting for if you learned Japanese?
Translations will never substitute for the real thing.

>guys most of the work is already done since it uses the SMT2 engine!
>still not out
all of the Sakura Taisen games
About to play this for the first time, any pointers?

Hope you love grinding.

ROFUP1
Always use the Internet.
How does /vr/ fare the FF from the SNES-era to the PS1-era?
>>3345375
All are good except VIII.
IV is overrated though. It's just "okay".
I like them because I never had snes growing up and my sister got psone when ps2 launched, so I was about to get all of them for $20 a piece 16yrs ago.
/vr/ has some issues that I personally am not bothered by, because im an oldfag now and I grew up with "u get what u paid for, so learn to like it"
>90s 'murica translation is wrong
>missing FF games on nes/snes
>ps1 randomly pops up with FF7 making us casualfag kids ask "where is 4,5,&6?"
>origins is like "hey, remember this?" and "we added a second one u never played before, buy me plz as u wait for FFX"
>chronicles was laggy, had the 'murican translation, but offered the jp "hardmode" of FF4
>anthology's 5 was bugged with a death glitch. I find that game to be on the easier side of FF, in ranking so it adds hilarious difficulty imho
>anthology's 6 is suppose to be decent but passable since re-re-released on gba
>7 has poor graphics but better midi quality compared to PC, but once it was fully modded 8yrs ago... its debatable.
>8 is 8... 9 is 9...
>>3345395
FF7 on PS1 is the definitive version.
Opinions on this game? I'm surprised it didn't make the vsrecommendedgames wiki. It's the only virtua tennis game I have played, but damn I love it. It's so addicting and fun. You constantly want to play and up the difficulty to challenge yourself. Very fun game to progress in. Music is great too.
Shit's awesome, also make sure you check out the sequel (and the later games arent bad either, though not retro)
I have been looking into some Dreamcast sports titles recently because they're as common as dirt and equally as cheap. I normally hate sports titles but an interested in trying NFL/NBA 2K. Are these better than EA cancer? What do they do right?
This is now a Sega sports general?
VT is the best tennis series ever made. It has no bad games.
how the fuck is retroarch so non-user friendly? I just wanna map an arcade stick but its only giving me controller configs for a 360 controller. I fucking hate this thing.
It's basically a memeulator.
I agree, really annoying stuff. I can't for the life of me think of why it needs to be this way.
>>3345169
So your controls automatically map to the majority of console layouts by defining a single virtual controller layout it can work from...
Supposedly the former staff that worked on this game have worked very hard to bury all evidence of it existing. Thanks to heroic efforts from someone who wishes to remain anonymous I provide you a link to a dosbox folder configured to run this game.
Rodger Ramrod, full version: https://a.cuntflaps.me/cdfwps.7z
It should be noted this game is aimed at an adult audience and you probably shouldn't be playing it if you're young and actually care about that. Have fun with a milestone in porno game history

That's the shareware version.
Which game do you have the most experience with? Thar you know like the back of your hand? Pic related
Sin & Punishment. Turbo mode.
das my shit rite thur
Probably Super Mario RPG.
I know the location of every invisible block, all the hidden weapons, secret areas, easter eggs, ect.
At some point when I was a kid, I was stuck living in the middle of butt fuck nowhere with only an SNES, Super Mario RPG and a few other games to entertain me for a good long year, and SMRPG was the one I played the most.
I don't think it's THE game I've played the most, but it's up there, and it's definitely the one I remember the most, while other games I still get a little lost or I don't quite remember where some of the secrets are.
Super Probotector.
Game & Watch Discussion. What are your favorites? What do you own? What have you picked up recently?
I'll start, I own Ball and Donkey Kong Ice Hockey and am looking into picking up Pinball and probably Oil Panic.
I only have Mario Bros but it needs a bottom screen polarizer. Anyone have a good source or can I just cut a smartphone one to size?
Also, how does one dismantle the top half? Are there screws under the front label?
No game and watch love on /vr/?
>>3336616
Those Tiger ones were pretty cash.
I even bumped into one emulator for the Terminator game, but didn't find a way to save it.
/vr/ memes/comics
I waited for this thread
>>3336165
Calling people kiddo.
Not retro.
Segata Sanshiro.
X game is overrated and Y game is better (Crash Bandicoot 2 vs. Mario 64)
>>3336165
I don't get it.
Doom or Quake
>>3331242
Quake. Doom cant compete with true 3D level design and a CD soundtrack.
>>3331242
I'm tempted to say Quake since I'm a huge fan of NIN and evil edginess, but Doom is simply funner
>>3331252
>funner
Thats not a word anon
What's your favorite piece of /vr/ art?
>>3328640
Put some pants on Link geez
I love pic related, the human designs at least (monsters are pretty crummy). What a weird time it was when JayRPGs actually looked completely different from each other
Never got much of the chance to play Everquest sadly but I fucking LOVE the box art.
Just saw this as part of CNN's 80s series and wanted to share.
http://www.cnn.com/videos/tv/2016/05/03/series-eighties-kids-vs-atari.cnn-creative-marketing/video/playlists/atv-the-eighties/
I don't get it, am I supposed to be surprised kids don't know how to work a device/game they've never seen before? I imagine kids in the 80s would react the same way when the Atari came out if someone stuck them in a room without explaining how to work it and didn't give them the manual.
This reaction video garbage is the dumbest thing to come out of human civilization.
CNN discovered the kids react meme a little late didn't they?

Can someone link me the best website to buy replacement parts from? I only browse Ali, Ebay, and Amazon.
Right now I'm having a tough time looking for a new LCD screen for my Gameboy Sp. The 001 version.
Does anyone have a pinout for the 315-5960 ASIC used in the Genesis/Megadrive Model 2 (VA4) and Model 3 (VA1)?
Specifically I need to know which pins output RGB - was 35, 36 and 37 on at least some earlier chips - so I can run a shielded cable and bypass the interference-ridden motherboard traces.
PS can anyone tell me what the FUCK is going on in pic related?
I have a SNES RGB cable but for some reason only the left and middle part of the audio work in stereo.

Look like OP forgot to remove that shit.

And that one too.

What have you already played? I'm no expert on that subject, but you might as well try the classic falcom games on MSX (Xanadu, the Ys series) as well as the Micro Cabin ones (the Xak series). Most of these might have translations or are already in english. Of course there classics like the Wizardry series on Apple II and PC or the Ultima series on Apple II and Commodore 64 (I've read somewhere that the PC version of the early Ultima episodes aren't that good compared to the other versions though). On Amiga, there are dungeon crawlers like Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder and Captive (gotta love the title tune of that one), as well as the Moon series (and a few Ultima episodes too).

I meant to remove those but I forgot. I copypasted the thread text into Notepad and edited it, but then I wasn't paying attention and copypasted the original one from the Foolz archive.
