It still pisses me the fuck off that Jenova is the real villain, and not Sephiroth.

The greatest Final Fantasy villain, people.

You'll be pleased to know then, that Sephiroth is the main villain and Jenova has been dead for centuries and is only used as a physical manifestation for Sephiroth.

Being that I'm a stupid idiot who's never built computers and knows nothing about how computer hardware works, I have no idea what to do with these connectors. I connected the PS/2 to USB cable and the VGA cable from the J-PAC, but I'm not sure what else to do with these.

What do with this

I'll start. I think Sword of Vermilion for Genesis was an unreal time dump, very difficult, and cool fantasy RPG.

Septerra Core for pc? Me and a buddy loved it way back. Double pack with Shogun. Never meet anyone else who played it though. Unreal cyberpunk, fantasy, balls to wall crazy story RPG, extremely difficult without guide, neigh impossible really, worth it.

Still play these on emulator sometimes.

What is it?

Graphics sort of remind me of EVO. That game where you were like a fish, then frog, dinosaur, mammal, then man.
>>
I tried playing Septerra Core numerous times and never could arse myself to get through it. Every time I give up because the game bugs me for some reason and I can't pinpoint what. The farthest I got was when I got that sword wielding fag...at least that I remember. It just lacked any charm what so ever.

Feel free to talk about anything related to beat-em-ups, but here are a few topics to get things started.

- - - - - - - - - -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qb8hhKfQTo4

>Cadillacs and Dinosaurs 1cc using Jack
>hardest difficulty
>no healing
>no weapons
>no megacrashes!
>no deaths

Jack is an underrated character, superior to Hannah in everything that matters.

- - - - - - - - - -

Power Rangers (SNES) came out after Ninja Warriors Again (SNES) and is something of a spiritual successor, both being made by Natsume and having similar gameplay, but why is Power Rangers such a massive downgrade?

- - - - - - - - - -

Best beat-em-up weapon of all time? Some examples...

a) Runark/Growl: whip
b) SOR2: Max using pipe/sword
c) Return of Double Dragon: nunchucks
d) Cadillacs & Dinosaurs: shotgun
e) D&D2: Sword of Legend

- - - - - - - - - -

What's your best 3 arcade beat-em-ups of all time

>Final Fight
>Cadillacs & Dinosaurs
>Guardians

- - - - - - - - - -

What's your best 3 console beat-em-ups of all time

>Streets of Rage 2 (Hardest mode)
>Ninja Warriors Again (Hard mode)
>Kung Fu (Game B)

- - - - - - - - -

Beat-em-up guilty pleasures (dumb but fun games)

>Runark

We have pretty similar tastes.Final Fight and Guardians are among my favorites, third is probably Warriors of Fate. I agree with SoR2 and Ninja Warriors Again too.

I have been playing Alien vs Predator recently, i'm pretty bad at it but i like it, i get a lot of random hits from nowhere though, enemies have tons of priority too.

So I recently got to play this gem from 1988 for this first time in my life, albeit on the 3DS (great version btw). I have to say, it's without the shadow of a doubt the king of all Sega Super Scaler titles. No matter whether it's After Burner II, Space Harrier, Hang-On or OutRun - they all can't touch this.

There were many versions and releases over the years, sadly most of them did not live up to the high standard of the arcade experience thanks to the powerful Sega Y Board Hardware that even gave a 32-bit home console like the Saturn a run for its' money. It all started in the arcade of course but they also released this on the Saturn, Playstation 2, PC, Nintendo 3DS eShop, Amiga, Genesis, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Wii Shop & FM Towns.

And so there's potentially a lot to talk about here. I would love to hear some experiences, especially from those who had the opportunity to play the arcade version and I'd also like to collect any worthwhile info on this thing here that you might have.

Spec Page for the SEGA Y BOARD HARDWARE
http://system16.com/hardware.php?id=699

Main CPU : 3 x MC68000 @ 12.5 MHz
Sound CPU : Z80 @ 4 MHz
Sound chip : YM2151 @ 4 MHz & SegaPCM @ 15.625 MHz
Max Colours : 16384 (4bpp - 16 per sprite, which go through a 16->512 indirection table), then selects which 512 color bank to take from 4096. This is used to do colour rotations (the red-yellow rotation of the lava sprites from Galaxy force for instance) without changing the color palette, also allows it to have sprites that rotate colors and sprites that don't on the same screen, and to get different levels of luminosity as well
Sprite Structure : Uses a linked list of sprites (each sprite includes the number of the next one)
Video resoution : 320 x 224
Board composition : CPU board + Video board

Board Features : 3 68K, nicknamed M, X and Y.
You have a sky gradiant, a first sprite layer which plugs into a full-screen rotation (seen in the the power drift/galaxy force screen tilt), then a second sprite layer (outrun type) on top of them which has priority, and they have full sprite zooming and scaling on both sprite planes.
This hardware uses no tiles at all.

Weekly recommend thread!

First tell us what kinds of games you like. Also you fucked up a little on the model. Original Gameboy has the worst screen and Color is when a lot of the truly great games started getting made.

There's still a lot to play, but no reason for an original model other than nostalgia, and nostalgia is idiotic.
>>
Mole Mania and anything with Kirby in it

Not that I disagree, but do you know where you are?

OP can just emulate GBC and GBA games. The original GameBoy has some gems.

Pokémon Yellow
Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge
Castlevania Legends
Kirby's Adventure in Dream Land and Dream Land 2
Metroid II The Return of Samus

About how this game doesn't get any love or nods in new Mario games like going be to this area etc.

Let's also mention it has to me, without a doubt the best theme from ANY Mario game ever.

Mario Maker uses the modern jumping physics, even on the older sprites.

You're probably having difficulties with the more archaic physics. It takes time to read apt if you've never played them before.

You'll get it and you'll like it when you finally adapt.

Welcome to the Retro Game Gauntlet, gentlemen: http://s3kr.it/gauntlet.html

Start at NES, and work through in the following order:
NES
SNES
GB/GBC
Megadrive/Genesis
Turbografx16
DOS
NeoGeo
GBA
Commodore 64
Playstation 1

You have three days (or as many days as you like--it's all cool) to complete the game without assistance (each game gets three days, though RPGs are allowed a week due to length).

Select your system here:
http://s3kr.it/gauntlet.html

You can also do it manually if you don't trust the random number generator:
http://s3kr.it/systems/

Rules (follow if you want, or not--no biggy):
1) Savestates are allowed ONLY for the purpose of taking screenshots and ONLY if your emulator/game in question does not have a pause function.
2) Rerolls are allowed under the following conditions:
-The game you get requires some sort of hardware functionality that cannot be accurately emulated to complete (eg, Boktai)
-The game would otherwise require cheats, hacks, or alteration of the software to complete due to a bug (eg, Cheetahmen II)
For games that have a high score or no end, the rule is
>if no high score has been established, set a goal and beat it
>if you're playing something another anon already has a high score on, beat their high score
>if you are playing extended rpgs/pokemon/whatever you get a week (Depending on the game: needs to be asked in thread)

AND BRING ME SCREENSHOTS PARKER

NEW RULES/GUIDELINES TO POSTING IN THE GAUNTLET THREADS:

-Do not post screenshots every other screen, make them few and meaningful
-Do not start a new thread before current one bump limit is exceeded

I feel that Ultima V:Warriors of Destiny has the best story but Ultima VII + VII Part 2 have the best gameplay.

My first UIltima was 7 so it was hard for me to get into previous ones and the later ones sucked. I wish it was remade with better interface (namely inventory) and combat but it's still very good, I'm still amazed at the amount of detail it has and how npc's behave
>>
>>2805616
I've never played any of the spinoffs but I heard the GameBoy ones were good.

>>2805649
The first three and 6 have some pretty bad interfaces which is going to prolong my playthrough, but 4, 5, 7, and 7pt2 were well and good. I'm dreading getting to 8 and 9, considering I've never finished them the first time around.

Final Fantasy IX Thread.

This was the first Final Fantasy game I played as a child. My mother bought it for me randomly. Upon playing it for a few minutes; I was heavily immersed. You seem to meet each character at the perfect times to grow accustomed to them. Zidane; a thief. Steiner; a blindly loyal soldier. Vivi; a child, and so on. I feel no bond to any other characters as I do this set. The rate in which they grow in front of your very eyes is astounding for an early game.

The music in this game sits apart from the other games to me. The simple acoustic theme of Dali captivates me. I find myself yearning to listen to it. Esto Gaza is my personal favorite.

The game has a fair amount of secret content. I thoroughly enjoy the Chocobo Hot and Cold mini games, as well as finding the Chocographs across the continents. I take enough of a break each time in between playing that it still remains a challenge to find them all.

While all games have their flaws, IX certainly has some to. The trance system is horrid. Some plot lines seem to fade away. For example, what becomes of Freya and Fratley. Or of Amarant.

Nonetheless, It is my favorite game of all I have played. I wanted to ask you guys what your favorite moments, adventures, characters, experiences, or even dislikes were. Cheers.

my least favorite of the first 10 games. no interesting characters or plot lines. i can barely remember anything about the story actually. i thought the graphics and design were a step down from VIII. the gameplay itself was fine and i liked the music, especially the overworld theme.

This secret scene in Horizon in Final Fantasy VIII.

Well, there are a lot of hidden story and gameplay stuff in FF8, but that one I only discovered on my 10th of so playthrough.

There is also a couple of hidden pistol ammo I found out much later on in Resident Evil 2, like for the instance the one hidden behind the middle statue in the room where you have to push 2 statues around to get one of the red gem.

Also few people know but the PC version of Resident Evil 1 has an extra hidden pistol clip. It's located at the back of the Tyrant fight room in the lab, you can't physically see it either but it's there if you press the action button near the shadowed angle (same place where the 2nd Tyrant is in the Saturn version). Probably a hint by the devs on how the Tyrant in the lab can actually be killed with less than 15 Beretta bulelts yep, you saved all that magnum ammo for nothing all these times
