Okay, let's get started with some juicy Artdink. Tokio was their simulation game most akin to SimCity, giving you the role of mayor running an orbital Island Three-style space colony. This PC-98 city-building title diverges from the company's flagship series A-Train by ditching mass transit as the means of expansion and city growth; you can do things much like in a Maxis game, albeit with more economic and political customization/options than usual. You have three panes of the colony to build your city on, all the while running as incumbent and trying to profit from space shuttle fares despite the upkeep. You can even chat with residents via randomly-generated phone calls, probably the hardest feature to translate if and when someone does a patch for this game.
Here you can see great hand-drawn pixel art courtesy of Artdink's house designers from 1992. I'm not sure if Tokio and its sequel use the same engine as A-Train III/IV, as it supports greater detail for objects while sacrificing animations the other series is known for.
Now for the underbelly. This space-port's where most of the A-Train holdover influence can be found. You also have to maintain your colony's energy resources and climate, which factors into both domestic and economic policy.
Anyone know of good [translated] detective games out there worth playing? I would especially love if there was something like Asenheim Project that provided them in browser.
>"This 3D game looked so real and impressive then, but now the graphics aged badly! It's so weird to look back at it after all these years, it just looks ridiculous and blocky now! 3D ages badly!"
Wh...why is this statement so common? Old games always, ALWAYS looked blocky and weird compared to pre-rendered 3DCG in films. There was always a huge, glaringly noticeable compromise to be made if you wanted to make a real-time, interactive experience in 3D. The models of the original Half-Life, which came out in 1998, looked pretty goofy compared to the 3D models of Jurassic Park, a movie that came out 5 years earlier. Cartoony games were victims of this too; Mario 64 and Banjo looked technically wonky as hell compared to Toy Story and they both came after it.
To add to this, the least awkward-looking 3D games were the ones that used heavily stylized art direction that made the blockiness part of the style. The cover artwork & manga tie-in for Sin & Punishment, for instance, made the characters look very unrealistic and... pointy. Thus the polygonal in-game graphics still look less "wrong" than the humans in Half-Life or Goldeneye. Games like Sheep Dog n' Wolf made the low polygon count part of the art style, with backgrounds having a stylish angular look reminiscent of old cartoons or something like The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
it's been a long time ago, so people misremember shit as looking better
Wh...why are you such a sperglord?
>>2835061
But why would it have looked "real" and amazing back then? I could always tell, even as a little kid, that "amazing" video game graphics were the result of a massive hardware compromise and that they always looked blocky as shit compared to even their 3DCG commercials. In fact, I judged the "best graphics" based on whatever got the closest to looking like the standard set by cinema. Were people that easily swayed by marketing hype?
Post your favorite yoge* games /vr/.
*yoge = japanese term referring to western games/games developed outside of Japan

Km interested un getting this forma retrogaming and as htpc, could this run up to GC? Saturn? Nes snes would be just fine
Depends, what are the specs?
>>2833381
Hah! I have one for just such a reason. What version are you looking at?
>>2833381
Wow that little box is adorable, mini PC I'm assuming?
Someone throws SNES & N64 cartridges to a water canal and im thinking to go with some friends and try to recover the games from the water. It happens the last week. Can i save the cartridges or they are 100% dead now?
>>2831012
let them dry, clean pcb with rubbing alcohol, let dry again, then try.
The cartridges themselves are fine, minus sticker damage. The games' boards within are fucked.
Salt water they're fucked.
Fresh water might be ok but probably fucked.
Why hasn't anybody heard of Zool?
Apparently predates Megaman X by a year, has slopes, wall kicks, and ports to genesis, dos, and game boy. I found videos of this game today. Jumps look floating and shitty but we remember Bubsy.
Yeah, I played Zool 2. In the game you could choose the male or the female character. The main sposor of the game was the Chupa Chups candy factory. So nice game.
I love it, master system version has the most impressive scrolling speed I've seen on that shitty system. I think by the time they made Zool 2 the mascot craze was already dead.
Zool was only popular in Europe.
Zool 1 was garbage
Zool 2 was decent, but the only console ports were the Amiga CD32 and the Jaguar. Both were unpopular
With all the Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball bullshit currently going on...aren't you glad you played and fell in love with video games at a time when no one cared?
I sure am.
I remember when I was a kid I wanted Mortal Kombat for my SNES and my mom kept telling me NO. Then one day my Dad bought me MK2 and when my mom saw all the blood in the game I remember exactly what she said "That's it? It looks so fake."
My Dad also showed me how to give the strippers money in Duke Nukem.
My Dad used to use his work Amiga to copy games with guys in his office. He gave me a copy of this when I was 6.

We've always had censorfags, it just used to be hardcore Christians and idiots like Jack Thompson. And people who thought playing Counter-Strike made you want to kill people irl.
The hardcore left now is as bad as the hardcore right is/was, and are the new group of censorship zealots. Much like we had titties on statues taken out of Castlevania in the West, we now have slutty lollies dressed as moderately skimpy lollies in Western releases. Shit changes but it also stays the same. I'm sure there were groups that tried to ban games like Demon's Crest, and it's likely that the game Devilworld was never brought to the U.S. because it would offend idiots. DoA Volleyball would offend idiots so it isn't being brought over. This really isn't new. The new thing is that we're just more informed about what we aren't getting.
I remember this piece of garbage...
I miss overly enthusiastic announcers in games.

Okay... now what?
Is that A link to the past or what?

I remember that. Don't remember how I solved it though. Took a me a while if I remember correctly but that was over 9 years ago.
If you're looking for the flute it's north west of the tree stump just a few dig spots from where you're standing. In the corner of tthree or so trees there should be a patch of flowers there as well.
Hi, I have a quick question about buying this SCART PS1 cable off of this website:
https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/games-consoles/sony-playstation/sony-playstation-1-2-ps1-ps2-rgb-scart-cable-lead
What option should I select under "Sync" on the right hand column?
>>2829347
What'll it be feeding into? Some monitors or capture cards require a certain kind of sync.
>>2829347
Depends on what it will go into. SCART in itself is literally just a cable, a mode of transferring a signal from source to display device. Everything else will have to be made out between the two devices, if your monitor cannot display it because sync problems that is not the fault of the cable but your monitor being incompatible.
So check what your monitor wants, then choose accordingly.
