I'm sure that would be more clever if it even remotely resembled the title's pronunciation.

Found out today that the opening theme to Tenchu Stealth Assassins, 'Add'Ua', is sung in Hausa, an African language apparently.

I found out that nearly every Playstation, since the original, has backwards compatibility with the original games. I knew I could play PS games on my PS3, but I didn't know that EVERY PS system could do it.

I also found out that early revs of the PS3 could play PS2 games, in HD. now, I have something else to hunt down, on Ebay.

What's the definitive version of Final Fantasy VII? I recently bought the game during a PSN sale, but I researched the game a bit more and now I'm not sure which version to play.

Apparently the Steam/PC version looks better, but the music is fucked up. There's a PS4 port that I know nothing about. And there's a retranslation patch for the PSX/Steam versions because apparently the original translation is bad? Not sure which one to go with here, anyone more knowledge want to chime in?

>>
Emulate it. the Steam version has DRM bullshit.
>>
>>2923907

I believe the PSN version is just an emulation of the original game, right? If so, play that.

Otherwise, emulate the PS1 version on PC. Don't worry about translation patches. The original translation isn't the best, but it's so well known and endearing that you should experience it at least once.

Don't play it at a ridiculously high resolution. It will look strange. 4x the original resolution at the max.

>music fucked up
It's MIDI, so there are options to make it sound better. They were Yamaha XG optimised I believe.

Is Lara Croft as recognizable of a character to the non-gaming crowd as Mario is? Would you call her one of the most recognizable video game characters of all time?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>2923702
Yes. Maybe more so for those of us as teens/adults during the 90's. Today I'd say her character to non-gamers rides more on the movies only.
>>
>>2923702
Definitely. She's probably one of the most iconic PSX characters in the west.
>>
>>2923702
No. I guarantee that most non-gamers can't name her. They might be able to figure out that she's from a game, but that's it.

Where is the best place to buy consoles and games in the UK? I have bought some off ebay and from a local shop.

In the UK you're shit out of luck.
My local shops are trying to sell common MD games for £15+ and ps1 games for £25+
just stick on eBay and check out local selling/tradings forums and also get schpock(I think that's the spelling, its a mobile app for local shit)

Oh hey, I remember submitting that on GOG.

Burai's gonna happen so long as the fan translation scene doesn't implode, leaving us without hackers/translators willing to patch J-PC games. PC-88 version would be ideal, but there's console ports worth looking into assuming the PC versions are way too much of a pain.

So my mind is muddy, let's see, I'm sure I played it on the dreamcast, it was a 3D beat em up I think, and the action took place on a train. I remember winter scenery too. Played it in 2 players mode with my friend. It had an unmistakable Sega arcade feel, but couldn't find it looking for sega titles of that era, so perhaps my mind is tricking me?

I searched for beat em ups on the Dreamcast but no luck. Pretty sure it wasn't Dynamite Cop. Any clues?

Zombie Revenge has a level on top of a train

It's a action/beatem up.
>>
>>2923176
No it wasn't that title. The game I allude to had secret agent stuff like Mission: Impossible. Perhaps I played it on arcades and not on the dreamcast?

I would be worried if my mind is making up this stuff

Question: Is there a wiki or other resource anywhere that collects information on constant parameters that games use - like the speed, acceleration, jump strength and gravity of Mario in a given game.

Seems like it would be extremely useful for those of us who want to make fangames, but not hack ROMs for the original hardware.

Never finished it, stopped seeing the point in releasing yet another run'n'jump to the world.
>>
This information sort of exists for on wikis dedicated to speedrunning and TASes. I remember reading a lot about Mario World running and jumping physics in particular, but even as exhaustive as it was it may not have everything you need to 100% duplicate it.

Mario World is going to be a special exception though, because it is very popular in those communities and with romhacking in general. You should be able to find similar amounts of research for Super Metroid and maybe a few others.

What went wrong?

No really, what exactly went wrong in the localization of this game? The JP and PAL versions of Lufia 2 are relatively stable and work as intended, while the NA release has several glaring bugs, including:
>capsule monster feeding not working correctly(e.g. rank 1 foomy requesting an old sword)
>submarine cave completely scrambled, pic related
>capsule monster cave and gratze kingdom names being scrambled
Among the worst of them is the sound settings glitch, which is incredibly easy to do and can potentially ruin your entire game.

Was it just rushed really heavily? I find it hard to believe that they found changing sailors' hair color and the casino girls' outfits more important than testing the submarine cave to make sure it actually looked the way it's supposed to.

And Lufia 2 thread I guess, since there isn't one.

Japanese are poor programmers.

They probably first translated the game, checked if everything worked properly and then rearranged the sprites, tilesets and fonts afterwards without actually checking whether that fucked up anything or not, resulting in the complete mess we got.

I appreciate what you're trying todo anon, but this thread is going to devolve into shit-posting and "NOT /VR/!!!" autists screaming in no time.

With that said:

>KidShoryuken
His walkthroughs of video game stores in Japan are drool-inducing.

>Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!)
Despite his sometimes cringey humor, he does comprehensive, detailed summaries / reviews
of many quality Japanese-only games.

>My Life in Gaming
Quality videos about video options for /vr/ like the XRGB and PVM's with Scart cables. They also do quality video reviews and summaries of various retro games and systems.

>strafefox
Very high-quality videos about MSX Konami games, Genesis action games, etc. Very high production values and excellent editing.

>Chrontendo
Dr. Sparkle doing summaries and reviews of every Famicom game made.

>すくりん@DragonScreen RetroGames
Similar to Chrontendo, but from a Japanese Youtuber / NicoNico uploader with a little higher production values and a little faster getting through games.

>sfczensoft
Same thing as above, but for Super Famicom games.
>>
Pannenkoek2012 (mentioned here: >>2914875 ) does no A-button and 255 coin runs of Super Mario 64. This is much more complicated than it sounds. For example, in one video he has to run backwards for 25 hours to lower his speed enough to warp out of bounds to a parallel universe. If you like seeing people push the boundaries of video games, this channel is great.

Game Theory hasn't put out a good video in a while, but his older stuff (pre-FNAF shit) is pretty good. The more math-intensive stuff is sometimes incorrect (the Majora's moon video was especially wrong), but his videos on EarthBound and Polybius were excellent.
