What does /vr/ think of Half Life?

I think it is awesome. Replaying all the games rightnow.

How did you get it? Was it special for you?

It destroyed FPSs as a genre just like Metal Gear Solid ruined adventure games
>>
Took me a few years to get into Half-Life. When I came out I hated it for the realism. Reloading, boring realism weapons (the fun sci-fi guns are at the very end of the game) being killed by a short drop that would take 10 health away in Quake, the military grunts and all that military silliness that came with them (go! go! go!), all this stuff turned me off.

But I grew the fuck up, realised that not everything has to be Quake and came to really enjoy Half-Life in the end. I still blame it for really starting the realism trend that ruined the FPS genre.

This game is so addictive. So simple, but so good.

What are some other good pinball video games?
I only played Sonic Spinball and Pokemon Pinball but honestly I think I like the old NES pinball the best.

Is that HAL from Kirby games? They had an american branch?
I will try it either way, thanks for the suggestion.

Play pinbot my dad got it for me as a kid and it was awesome. Challenging and fun.

Redpill me on the Neo Geo, /vr/. Is it worth collecting for if you aren't an FGCfag?

This is such a stupid question, even overlooking the retarded vocabulary. So you're just going to start buying tens of thousands of dollars worth of hardware and software because of the responses on /vr/? Do it, I dare you.
>>
>>3225557
Not really, emulation is very good and the good games are mostly posted to other systems. It's a very expensive console to collect for (relatively)

Do you buy the argument that certain games "don't age well", or is that just nonsense?

A lot of things are products of their time.
>>
>>3209230
If some game really breaks boundaries and becomes a "gold standard" and a bunch of games get released after it that simply improve over the original ideas of that game, you could consider it "aged."
For example, SMB seems like it has aged poorly because although it set standards for platforming, the games that followed it (SMB3, SMW, Yoshi's Island, DKC, DKC2, Earthworm Jim, etc.) All took the platformer foundations SMB laid and improved on them, so SMB seems weaker in comparison.
It could also work the opposite way. If a game has a fatal flaw, that while at the time people just dealt with, but when games come out in the future that removes said flaws, you could consider the game "aged."
It doesn't lower the quality of a game by any means, it just means that things have changed or improved since then.

I don't know, but there's games from the PS1 era that I could sink in hours and hours at a time but last time I tried them recently I could barely get past level 1, if that.

Do to that sale on gog i've recently acquired sam and max hit the road, shits cash so while im here lets have a sam and max thread

Still wanted to play Freelance Police though, at least it had the original VAs, too bad whatever 85% beta there is of it will rot on some Lucas/Disney HDD for all time to come.

Hi there

In 2001-2002 I was lucky to have a dreamcast. Recent couple months I spent in desperately attempts to finding a tune from video from Dreamon collection (probably vol 2, it was like usual legit Dream on 2, but with bunch of extra content there. Like video of Donkey Kong racing etc).

The problem is that my console was already hacked before purchase and CD was probably bootleg (it was common practice in my country back then). I assumed, that CD was bootleg, because I was trying to find that video through the complete list on segaretro.org , and didn't find a thing.

It was a video probably of some kinda jrpg (animation was japanese), where young man in probably orange probably space suit sit somewhere and trying to remember some tragic events or something like that. He was pretty sad, and that melody plays through all video. And after that he walks towrds some kind japanese temple or something, and there was also flashbacks of huge fire in the village, or similar to that. I can't clearly remember all the details, 14 years have passed, and I also not quite interested in that game (which even could be never released), more in that tune and video.

I found a small piece from that tune month ago on youtube - https://youtu.be/3hGJbilYW8g?t=1m3s

I really appreciate, if anyone can help me on that.

If you mentioned dreamcast game, I highly doubt, cuz that person in that video was far realistic, than "Evolution" cartoonish style

I want to play both Parappa the rapper and Um Jammer Lammy but i'm a bit lost at the subject.
I was planning in just download the pirated games and after burning them into cds, i'll play them in my old ps2 slim with the help of the swap magic disc
This is what i usually do with some ps2 games but with the psx ones doesn't seem to work
could you please give me any help?

I would say just buy the games since they are cheap, but Parappa seems to have gone up a bit since I last checked. Lammy is still cheap, though.

On a more helpful note, I seem to remember there being 2 versions of the Swap Magic disc. A DVD version for PS2 games and a CD version for PS1 games.
>>
>>3247057
No, the CD version is for the handful of PS2 games that use CD-ROM instead of DVD-ROM.
>>
Hmmmmm i have the DVD version, what a shame
Do you think that i can find both games in English on ebay, for example? I searched this morning for the Jammer Lammy and i only saw Japanese copies
Also, do you think that it's worth buy it? i have heard about a lot of people complaining about the games don't running to well but i'm not very well informed about that

Even though I know Mario 3 is technically a better game, I can't put my finger on why I prefer Mario World. What does /vr/ think?

>>3246304
i played World before 3. as such, i prefer World over 3, even though 3 is a "better game"

pretty retarded reason, but there you go.
>>
>>3246304
I like world because it's more open and exploratory. SMB3's levels are very dense, if you're skilled you can clear multiple obstacles in a single jump and clear the stage in under 30 seconds.

Meanwhile SMW made me feel like I was exploring, well, a world. A lot of that magic is gone now that I've memorized all the secrets, but it was an amazing feeling
>>
>>3246304

SMW had saving and you could replay levels. It also had Yoshi, better graphics and sound and more levels.

The concept was amazing, but the actual execution is not that great. It's an interesting game, but ultimately lacking and kind of boring.

tl;dr It's a typical Artdink game.

Artdink sure loved their Explore-A-World games.

It's a fine game. Everyone knows Castlevania Amiga is the best one.
